Easiest recording device ever!

However, you can get around that whole pedal issue easily, record out through another device!
For those new with this kind of technology, I can explain it easily. You plug this device into your computer USB cable, and it essentially takes the place of your sound card. Plug headphones (or powered speakers, whatever!) into the box, plug your guitar in, and open the FREE PodFarm utility you get from Line6 with the purchase of this device ($49 value).
Then just pick your amps, effects, adjust your settings however you want, and go to work. The sound is TRULY phenomenal. I used (still do) BOSS effects for years, and this rivals them in sound, but especially in simplicity. I cannot say enough about this device, I am SO happy with it. BTW, if you use Sony Acid (very simple recording software, highly recommended and available at Best Buy), you wont believe how simple this device is! I turned on Sony Acid with this box connected, Acid automatically loaded it up! I just hit 'New Audio Track', pressed record, and played the guitar. It recorded flawlessly....OH AND BY THE WAY, it has incredible VOCAL and BASS GUITAR effects as well! There is an XLR input (3-pin) for your mic.
The vocal and bass guitar effects are as incredible as those for the guitar.
This will be the best $149 you have ever spent, if you are interested in recording guitar, bass, and vocals in a simple way!

Awesome gear

I was blown away by the amp and effect choices. It's like having a warehouse full of equipment in a small package. I would like to have seen presets for modeling; acoustic guitar or fret less bass for example. But there are plenty of effects to keep me busy. This is my first attempt at using an instrument interface and Line 6 has made it an awesome experience.

This unit is sold for $150 elsewhere and only $65 here at Bestbuy, so I jumped on it. It was a good decision, as I was looking for an interface that allows me to record on the computer, and to practice without disturbing others. The product is not described well on the web page, but you actually get the Pod Farm v2.5x when you buy this unit. All you have to do is to create an account with Line6.com, then register your product, and you can download PodFram 2.5x for free. This is great because PodFarm has a ton of presets that you can use; with this selection, you're likely to find at least a few that you'll like. Installing was easy, as the drivers and license server is setup along with PodFarm. Once installed, run PodFarm and login with the account you created earlier, and PodFarm is then licensed for you to use.
The only thing that I don't like about this unit is that it's a little big, and the housing is made of plastic, which feels a little flimsy for me.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the product, and with the price I paid for this. I would totally recommend this to a friend.

this product does everything i needed it to do, with the great quality recordings, excellent latency for timed recordings, and a great selection of recording, either guitar, bass, or vocals. I used this item to record parts and full songs and i even used it to record sound effects clearly and to also rid the annoyance of noise.
If your looking for a great way to record any type of genre, and if this is in your budget, get it. you won't regret your purchase!!

Not worth the money

The effects where cool but if you have a basic modeling amp you can pretty much get any of the same sounds.
It says it comes with a free upgrade to pod farm 2 and im sure there is a way but line 6 customer service is so terrible they never answer your call.
After you install the software and plug it in if you have a mac book it will crash your computer unless you download extra driviers from there website but they don't bother warning you about that anywhere in the software.

The product was recommended by a friend. I first bought a Pod Studio GX. Then I upgraded to the UX1 within a year. I probably would've stuck with the GX a lot longer if the UX1 hadn't dropped so much in price. So besides the fact that it has XLR input, which the GX doesn't have, the price is my primary reason for buying the product.
It does what it says. It does take a little time to get familiar with the product and its interface. But once you get the hang of it, you realize how simple it is. To model your own tones, to download new ones, to upgrade your firmware and drivers... Piece of cake. The only thing that I've noticed can be a bit buggy on 64-bit platforms has to do with the ToneDirect driver(used to adjust latency, sample rate, etc.). And I typically only run into problems with that if I'm adjusting latency or sample rate, which I don't often do. Making adjustments to the drive can occasionally cause the driver to crash. Other running programs could be to blame for the issue, but I've not experimented with the issue as I've only experienced it two or three times.
The included software: Pod Farm, excellent. Ableton Live Lite, garbage. Use a real DAW. There was one other disc included, but as I recall it was just another useless piece of software.
Overall, good product. There are better products out there, but you're going to pay for them. With the UX1, you do get a little more than you pay for. As long as you're not paying full retail. =]

Caused System Lock-up

The installation appeared successful until I connected the UX1. The system would then lock-up. I un-installed and re-installed the software in an attempt to make sure I gave the package every opportunity to succeed. I am returning this product for something that works.

I've used Line 6 products before and hated every one of them. This is no exception. The distortion is god-awful. At least I can use the UX1 as an audio interface.
