My laptop doesn't have a 5GHz adapter, so I bought this external unit. File transfer speeds increased about 3 fold with the new adapter. As expected, the 5 GHz has a shorter range, as compared to the 2.4GHz, but I knew this before purchasing the unit. I would have preferred an adapter from Asus, to match the manufacturer of the router, but I couldn't get one locally at the time.

You can also install the Linksys WUSB6300 using the provided CD. Simply start the Setup Wizard and follow the instructions on your screen.
