The Windows XP and later versions should be able to detect the adapter. If you have noticed that the power LED doesn't turn on, try plugging it into another USB port or computer to isolate this. My connections were better using either AC or N wifi. I noticed faster download and upload speeds and increase in strength signal from a longer distance. The only drawback to me is the size, but I guess that helps with picking up the signal better and you should disconnect it from the laptop when it's being transported to avoid breaking it. I received the adapter from linksys for a honest review, but I would definitely buy another one.

Slower speed compared to N adapter

The Linksys WUSB6300 should have higher speeds than your N adapter. Experiencing a slower speed with this adapter is not a normal behavior. We can try a couple of steps to help improve its performance. You may set your router's wireless channel to either 1, 6, or 11. Make sure also to update the drivers of your adapter. This adapter allowed me to connect to the 5 ghz band and get a much much faster wifi connection. The setup was easy and took less than 5 minutes. I have not had any issues with the connection or signal strength. The only issue I have with it is the size of the adapter. It is a little wide and it blocks the usb port next to where it is plugged in . I received a free sample from Linksys in exchange for honest feedback
