One remote for all devices is a dream.

This Logitech-Harmony 650 Remote takes the place of all your remotes. Having one remote to operate everything is a dream come true. I was tired of fumbling with so many remotes to operate everything. This solves the problem. You will love this!

    It's complicated...

Geek Squad set up the remote when they set up our new system in October 2014. They didn't show us how to use it, didn't leave packaging or instructions or even the ID/Password. Instructions were minimal, including being scolded for pushing buttons we were told to ignore (resulting in a follow up visit to fix the problem). When a friend tried to help us, we were scolded again for making changes. I asked for a different GS team for the next visit but they sent us the same mean guy again. I won't be using the Geek Squad ever again. As for the remote, it's not as easy to use as you might think. You can't change the List button to the first screen, you always have to page over to the second screen. Nor can you switch the closed captioning button to the main screen (other buttons can be changed, but not these). Once in awhile for no reason we can figure out, it stops controlling the DVR volume and instead changes the underlying tv volume; which means if you ever get back to the DVR control you are severely limited to how high you can raise the volume. It also messes up channel selection in that mode. Then there are the malfunctions. The batteries always create malfunctions when they get low, but it can be days before the low battery warning shows up. It took us quite awhile to figure out that when you don't understand what's happening you need to try new batteries first. Now, a little over a year later, the remote has started to refuse to shut itself down when not in use. We have to remove the batteries every night. Then last night when I put them back in, the buttons lighted up but the screen didn't and nothing worked. It had to reinstall them several times before it finally worked. I'm ready to buy a new remote, but can't decide if I should switch brands, switch to a more expensive version of this brand, or just figure the devil you know is better and just buy another one of these...

Although I own a lot of AV gadgets I have never purchased a universal remote before I purchased two of the 650s a week or so ago. I looked at the fancier harmony remotes but the prices were pretty high and wasn't sure it was worth it. I also didn't think I needed a remote that was rechargeable. Remote batteries typically last a while so figured getting one with standard batteries would be fine (we'll see). Setting up the remote by adding my devices while connected to my computer was super easy. Setting up activities so that it does several things at once with a click of a button is also super easy. I can now consolidate those 5 remotes I had in the living room into one. Same with the media room. I think it was worth the $70 per remote.

This remote is very compatible with products. Most of my products are relatively new, but I do have an older (10 years?) stereo receiver I use to power two second zones of speakers, and this remote knows all its additional buttons/options as well. You can really customize this remote. I thought I might still need my old remote to tweak the system the way I like it but this remote includes those options as well. I wish it had RF; I thought about the Smart Remote but this seemed to have so much more for the money.

4.5 Stars - Works great with my Samsung products

I bought this remote primarily for my Samsung UN55JU7500 Curved 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart LED TV, Samsung UBD-K8500 3D Wi-Fi 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player, and Yamaha HTR 6230 receiver. It works flawlessly with all 3. Setup is super easy (after downloading Silverlight to my Mac). The only reason I'm taking away 1 star (well .5 stars if Bestbuy.com would let me) is because on the main menu screen of the remote, you cannot determine the order of devices listed. For example, I wanted "watch movies" and "watch TV - surround" on page 1, and "Watch TV - no surround" on page 2, but it always put them in an order it saw fit rather than the order I wanted, and even after deleting and reprogramming in a different order, it stays the same on the remote. It's not alphabetical either, so there's no way to determine the order if you have more than 2 setups. Otherwise, it's a fantastic remote. Easy to use, setup, and understand. Solid click buttons. Takes AA batteries so you can use rechargeables. It also works with the PS3 slim style without the additional attachment if you have a Samsung TV with Anynet. You can see how via Youtube videos. It got rid of my clutter of 3 remotes, it turns on everything I want with 1 click, and turns it all off with 1 click. Awesome.

This remote seems great at first. It is very similar to the Comcast box remote, so it's a pretty easy transition; there are just a couple of different buttons you have to learn. But the little screen on the remote is motion sensitive and only lights up/displays when the remote has been recently moved. Apparently all that tech takes a lot of energy, because this thing eats batteries. You have to replace them about every 2 weeks. Oh, and it doesn't tell you it needs new batteries; it just starts acting weird and you have to figure it out yourself.

I am now on my second remote after my first one went haywire. It would just keep cycling through the help menu and do nothing. I was kicking myself for not getting the 2yr warranty, so I bought a new one WITH the warranty. It's a great remote and very easy to program, just find all the model numbers of your equipment and know what inputs everything has to be on for the set up to be painless. It took me 10 mins because the first sync timed out, so I had to redo the sync. Highly recommend this WITH the warranty :)

Best remote I've ever owned or used, bar none

The setup of the remote is probably the one thing that I'm not a fan of. The software does allow you to do a lot of cool things, the customization of this is truly amazing. I have owned this remote for a few months now, and I'm still every bit as happy with it. The range on the Harmony remotes are perfect, I can control everything in my living room and bedroom without having to aim it weird or stand on my head to get the input to register (A problem I had constantly with an Insignia Blu-ray player). I have yet to find a product this remote can't control, and I love how Logitech engineered the remote. On the bottom, there is an IR receiver, meaning even if your device isn't officially supported by Logitech, you can just use your original remote (the one that came with your device) to program it. Currently, I have this programmed for three TV's (Sceptre, Sansui, and Samsung), two soundbars/home theater systems (Samsung and Vizio), an Apple TV (the best $99 I ever spent), an Xbox 360, and an Insignia Blu-ray player. Everything works pretty flawlessly, and I still have yet to find myself pointing the remote right at my devices. It has the fantastic ability to work so long as the remote is pointed in the general direction of what you are trying to control. (something many manufacturers seem to ignore) The backlit keys and shortcuts are surprisingly useful, you'd be amazed how much better it is to actually be able to see what buttons you push when it's dark. Picking up the remote turns on the backlight, and setting it down for a few seconds turns it off automatically to save battery. Which brings me to my next point, battery life. Originally I expected to be replacing batteries every month or so like with my other remotes, so I used rechargeable batteries. This was last year (around November 2014), and I haven't changed the batteries once. Overall, I love this remote and I highly recommend you get one. Setup is a little tricky depending on your ability to be patient and how good you are with technology, but if you can do basics on a computer then you should be set.

    Good Remote if On Sale

I picked up this item because I was tired of dealing with five different remotes, and "universals", which are anything but. Logitech has the right idea - create a database of all codes for all devices, then let the user login, specify the device and model number, and download the codes. The device iteself is slightly oversize, with an LCD color display. Buttons are slightly hard to read, especially those at the top. The A-to-B USB will be familiar to anyone who has ever downloaded from a camera. Setup was easy once the account was estabished. Biggest problem is finding your make and model numbers, but the website shows pictures, which makes it easy to correct errors. Up to five devices can be programmed to do up to four tasks - normally TV (w/set-top box), DVD, music and a fourth. Favorites channels are easy to program, but you can only do 20, and there is no way to sort them except manually. Construction of the unit is a bit 'off' - I had to return two that rattled before I got a good one.

I didn't really feel the need for a universal remote, but got tired of listening to complaints about clutter. Did a little research via internet and customer reviews. 85% approval rate from BB customers is good, but there are still 15% not satisfied, so there's always risk. I'm probably a 7 on the scale of 1-10 on tech saviness, but set up was a breeze. It even controls my ANCIENT JVC home theater in a box, along with a Sharp TV, XBOX 360 and Scientific Atlanta STB (no on playstation and Wii). if you have questions about compatibility suggest you go to Logitech's website and check prior to purchase, they have an easy to use index of devices. Super cool feature is the ability to hit one button and have all devices come on/off. Two drawbacks: 1. No button for Netflix. I'm assuming that future iterations of the remote will have this capability 2. Remote use is less than intuitive once you leave the main "page". If you read the online directions it becomes easier. Obviously there's no way to get a button for every device's special features. Bottom line this is a great remote. For less than $80 you can have a cool new FUNCTIONAL gadget and eliminate clutter complaints. Absolutely recommend!

Great remote for simple HT setups.

I have a ton of experience with Harmony remotes and I've grown very accustomed to them. I have the Harmony One for my main remote on the main system but I needed a simple remote for an Xbox (media center extender), TV and a cable box. I bought the 650 and have had great luck with it. It's lightweight, comfortable in the hand, mostly backlit, inexpensive, overall a great remote if you don't have a lot of equipment and don't want a touchscreen. My only complaints are the top main activity buttons are not backlit despite them being used commonly and it costs $50 more to get a remote with a rechargeable Li-ion battery. If you're looking for an easy-to-use remote, don't have a lot of equipment and don't want to spend a ton of money, then this remote is for you.

Ideal for average home entertainment system

Was fairly easy to setup online using the wizard. Hardest part was 'mapping out' how each piece of equipment was inter-connected. However, anytime a change is made, you must login to the website, make the changes as necessary in the wizard, then download to the remote. The LCD screen and back-lit buttons on the remote automatically come on when picking up or moving the remote, and turn off after about 5 seconds of inactivity. Very convenient. Have to remember to HOLD & point the remote during programmed activities (sequences) to make sure all devices are turned on and set properly. This remote is faster turning and setting 5 devices than my Comcast remote is for just turning on 3 devices, but still have to hold it for about 5 seconds to be done consistently correct. The 'help assistant' built in to the remote can help fix mistakes, such as the receiver didn't power on, but it takes several steps - sometimes easier to use the original remote, or just do it manually. The 'learning' capabilities seem endless, and should satisfy almost anyone's needs. It is ideal for the average 'system' of 4 to 5 devices, but if your might 'grow' in the future, you might opt for an 8 device remote instead.

For those of you needing a universal remote to control your TV, cable box, stereo and a streaming player like a Roku, definitely look no further than the Harmony 650 universal remote! This remote does everything! I wanted something to control EVERTYHING and I have finally found it! I have a TV, Digital stream converter box for my OTA antenna, Sony Blu-ray player, JVC home theater system and a monoprice video switcher. The Harmony device controls all my devices! It took about 10-15 minutes to set up all the components and which one comes on for each activity all through a program downloaded on my computer. The only small issue I had was I wanted to keep my converter box stayed on at all times because when I hit “watch TV” on the remote, it would take a second for the converter box to come on and thus the snowy picture came on for a second which annoyed me. But alas, I just hooked up the Harmony Remote to my computer, opened up the Harmony program and told it that I wanted to leave the converter box on at all times, saved my changes and voila! It saved everything and its all good again! control everything! I know there are many remotes out there, but this one is what you would need if you have many audio/video components like I have. I would recommend getting this one!

I finally found a remote that controls everything. The cable, theTV and the sound system all in one remote. It is super simple to set up. All my components were in its online database. I did have to learn to slow down when I pushed the on or off button. It needs a second to turn everything on. It even knows to use the cable box to change channels an the sound system for volume without my having to choose. It's great.
