SUMMARY: There is a LOT to like about the Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera (sharp picture, app-controlled pan and tilt, easy to set up), but there are enough peculiarities you should do your homework and make sure it works for you. It’s a great value and features are being added with software updates, so it’s only getting better.
PRO’S:
- Easy to set up. It screws into a standard light socket.
- Good picture, day or night (night vision).
- Decent App that lets you pan and tilt the camera from your phone, control the light, and set detection features.
- Micro-SD card storage so it doesn’t need the cloud (or subscription service)
- Two-way audio (talk). Siren to scare people off.
- Selectable detection of people, vehicles, animals and even audio.
- Camera tracks motion.
CON’S:
- Needs to be mounted on a stable lamp (not something that hangs)
- Doesn’t support Alexa or other Smart Home systems (yet).
MATTER OF TASTE (PECULIARITIES):
- Not waterproof so best used indoors (or well protected areas).
- Turns off if you physically turn the light off.
- The light needs to be pointed down (not up like most lamps.)
- Light can be dimmed by the App (only).
- Cloud storage is not available (yet).
- The camera requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for operation.
- You can set up motion zones (great for ignoring certain areas) but they are dependent on where the camera is pointed and doesn’t change when you use the pan and tilt feature.
- No instructions included (not even a quick start guide). You are guided to the App on the outside of the box.
MORE WORDS: It was as easy to set up as screwing in a smart light bulb. The picture is better than standard 1080p camera systems. The two-way talk feature works well, and it’s a lot of fun to surprise people with the siren. The light is a cool feature. The local storage feature is rare (and useful). The App has a lot of features for setting up detection features.
But the peculiarities… It should be obvious but still surprised me, you can only mount this where you have a light fixture that points down. This is why a pan and tilt function is almost mandatory. There were no instructions in the box, so the first thing I did to test it out was take a lamp shade off a lamp and screw it in, pointing up. The picture was upside down. One would think this could be corrected by software (hint hint developer). The advantage would be that lamps are easy to move (and install).
But the Achilles heel is also its strength. No wires required. Wherever you have a light socket (with power) you can install it.
The other strength that is also a negative is the interplay between the detection zones (mandatory to ignore someone walking on the sidewalk) and the tilt and pan feature. It’s great to be able to remotely move the camera, but the detection zones don’t track with it. And it doesn’t always move back to the spot where you set the detection zones. So its best set and forget.
Continuing ying and yang, there is currently no cloud service (yet), which great, no subscription charges, but then, no remote storage. But it DOES have local storage on a card which some people prefer.
BOTTOM LINE: See where this is going? Tradeoffs so you must make choices. If you like the tradeoffs this is a great value and solid five out of five… if you don’t, well… not so. Would I recommend this to a friend, yes, but I would list the tradeoffs too.
PRO TIP: The App you want is “Lorex Connect” NOT ““Lorex Classic.” And it uses a 2.4 ghz network, which is standard for many home connected devices, but you need to know to set it up right.

Works well, but some things to keep in mind

Let’s get the basics out of the way quickly. This security camera is simple to set up. Just take it out of the box and screw it into a standard light bulb socket, put power to that socket, download the app, and pair your phone with the camera. All of this took me less than five minutes.
I will insert one minor complaint here and say that there are NO instructions included in the box. Not a peep. None are needed for the camera itself because there is no assembly, etc. Just take it out of the box and screw it in. BUT, it would have been nice to be told exactly which app to download. I searched the Google Play store and found an app called “Lorex Classic.” I assumed that this was the correct app and downloaded it. It did not work. Frustrating. So I looked at the box again and noticed that the camera is actually called “Lorex Connect.” At least that what it says on the box. So I searched for an app with this name and found it. I downloaded this one, and everything worked fine. As I said, a quick note in the box indicating exactly which app is needed would be nice.
Back to the camera. It is quite nice. You can pan and tilt it from your phone, and the image is clear and bright. In the right place, the ability to control a security camera from wherever you are in real time is a nice thing. The fixture also has a light that can be turned on and off from the app, so you don’t lose the light in that location when you replace it with this camera.
Having said all of the above, there are some very important factors to consider before you run out and buy one of these.
1. This camera screws into a standard light bulb socket. This means that you need to have a light fixture with a standard socket in an area where you actually want a security camera.
2. The power to this camera must be on all the time. That means that the light socket you’re screwing it in to needs to be the ONLY light on that circuit. Otherwise, whatever other light or lights are controlled by that wall switch will be on all the time, which is probably something most people don’t want.
3. The socket must be pointing down, not sideways.
If you’re like me, you probably want this on the exterior of your house looking out at the walk up to your front door or around the garage or something similar. In my case, I have no single light fixtures in place to do this. I have a fixture on each side of the front door controlled by a single switch and three fixtures across the garage area, also all controlled by single switch. So this camera would not work in these locations unless I removed the bulbs from the other fixtures or left them on all the time, neither of which I wanted to do.
I do have a single wall fixture next to the house’s back door, and this is where I mounted the camera. Not where I would most like the camera to be, but it’s something as it monitors the back yard area.
One other consideration is the wall fixture into which you would insert this camera. The camera as a whole is about eight inches long, with the camera at the bottom. If you have a large fixture enclosure where the socket is well up inside, you might find that the camera does not stick down far enough to clear the bottom of the fixture. In a case like this, all the camera would see would be the metal framing of the fixture, which would obscure the view.
So keep all the above in mind. This camera is nice in that there is no assembly, no mounting issues, and, once you have the correct app, simple to get operating. But you have to have the specific situation as described above if the camera will be of any use to you.

Awesome Lightbulb Security Camera

I have been using the Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera, and it works absolutely great. The setup was straightforward. I downloaded the Lorex Connect app, and it guided me through the entire process in about two minutes. I also inserted a memory card for local recording, which gave me extra peace of mind. I can customize the alerts and control how the camera tilts in response to sound and motion.
The innovative light feature is a huge bonus. The built-in, multi-directional, 600-lumen light is bright and effective, and the dimmable design lets me adjust the brightness to match the mood. I can choose between warm white at 2,000 Kelvin (K) and cool white at 6,500 K, so the lighting always matches my environment and preferences. It makes the space feel safer and more welcoming while still being functional as a security device.
Installation could not have been easier. I just screwed the camera into a standard light socket, with no extra wiring or tools needed. The flexible wireless options are very convenient. I can select high-speed, next-generation wireless internet, either at 2.4 GHz for better range or at 5 GHz for a faster connection nearby. With the Lorex Connect app, I was connected and ready to go in minutes. The motion-activated lighting, bright Sunrise and Sunset schedules, and custom routines fit smoothly into my daily routine. I also appreciate the real-time alerts that can identify people or vehicles, so I always know what’s happening around my home.
The video quality is excellent. The 2,000-pixel resolution video is sharp, and the full-color night vision looks impressive even in low light. When it is completely dark, I can switch to infrared mode and still get clear black-and-white footage. During Live View, the camera can automatically zoom in and track people while they move, keeping the action in frame, while the recorded footage stays full frame, so no details are missed. The pan-tilt feature is another significant advantage because it allows me to cover a much larger area with a single camera and smoothly follow activity without physically moving anything.
Communication is also straightforward. The built-in two-way talk through the Lorex Connect app lets me hear and speak in real time. I can check on pets, talk to family members, or give instructions to visitors from anywhere, and the audio is clear. For added security, the built-in siren provides active deterrence. If there is a potential threat, I can trigger the siren and respond immediately, rather than just watching events unfold. Overall, this lightbulb camera combines powerful lighting, innovative features, and reliable security into one device, and I am pleased with how well it performs.

1 Device, 3 Great Uses

Setting up the Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera has been an experience. I use another Lorex product and like it so I was looking forward to using this camera for a variety of reasons. However, the first problem was my package did not include the quick-start guide. Okay, not the first time I’ve needed to go on-line to use the manual. The first part was as easy as the manual implied. I installed the camera and downloaded the app and when the camera told me all was ready to continue, I proceeded to pair the camera to my phone. But I had missed an important line in the manual. So, my phone could not find the device. I proceeded to go through all the troubleshooting directions to no avail. Being stumped and stubborn, wanting to figure this out myself, I looked through the entire manual and found the issue. The camera requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for operation and I have a single band 5GHz Wi-Fi network. I now have a much greater understanding of these two bands. I also now have a modem/router that has the two bands. Okay, problem solved just to run into the next problem. The light fixture hosting the camera is wrought iron and the bottom of it fits neatly over the camera lens. You can guess what I had to do next.
Now I get to actually try out my camera. The first thing that made me happy was the four ways to use the light part of the device. I could manually control it through the app, I could dim the light, set it on a timer or, what I really wanted, make it motion sensitive. While the app could give me information, it is much easier to have Alexa notify me. I don’t have to worry about power unless someone mistakenly flips the light switch. The picture quality for both daytime and nightvision is good and clear though dusk can be a bit of an issue as the device sometimes seems to be debating whether to use day or night vision. I can speak to someone and hear their reply. For those times I hear strange bumps in the night, I can pan the camera to see if there is an issue or just the odd racoon, squirrel, or cat being nosy. I appreciate a microSD card can give me the memory I want without having to pay for on-line storage but that storage is available if I want it. Overall, while this started as a comedy of errors, I’m quite happy with the result.

Super Useful and Easy to Use

There are so many cool functions on this smart lightbulb camera! Right out of the box it was super easy to install. I inserted a memory card and twisted it into the outdoor socket near my front door. After that, downloaded the Lorex connect app and it detected the device and installed it right away. There are no subscriptions needed to use it and you can save a lot of historic videos directly on the memory card.
Setting up the camera is easy. Click on the device in the app and you can use pan and tilt to point the camera in the default direction. At anytime you can log on and rotate the camera in any direction and almost any angle. In addition you can talk through it, program it to turn the light on when it detects motion or sound, and even set off a siren for protection. The device settings allow you to toggle on or off the vehicle detection, sound detection, and person detection. I turned the vehicle detection and sound detection off and then adjusted the person detection so that it only picked up people in front of the sidewalk, so I didn't get notifications each time a neighbor walked by. Another cool function is that it will track a person or vehicle automatically by following them with the camera.
The notifications are nearly immediate when something is detected, and they appear quickly on my iPhone, iPad and iWatch all at the same time. I can even see the picture on my watch without having to push any buttons. Also, you get notifications no matter where you are, you don't need to be on your own Wi-Fi network for it to work.
I really love this device. The only negative I found is finding a place to mount it. My outside lights where I mounted it have four lights, so to keep the camera active, the inside light switch needs to be on all day and night, and the other 3 lights are also always on. I have thought about getting a plug in light bulb to mount it somewhere else. I'm sure there's a creative solution that I will find.
Overall, I'm very happy with this device and would highly recommend it.

I have several cameras outside but they're all stationary. I didn't really want to replace one, then I saw this camera. I thought it was pretty neat and I could replace one of my front lights with it. It's great and now I have better coverage out front.
Setting it up is pretty simple. Screw it in(no wires to run!) download the app, and make an account. I had it up and running pretty quickly. I did have an issue with this Lorex camera after a couple days. Something happened with the app, it would crash as soon as I tried to open it. I tried all the main fixes but it was pretty frustrating. I came back to it the next day and it was back working. So if you run into this just walk away and try again another day.
Picture quality is quite good, I can zoom in with a clearer picture than some other cameras and the night vision is very good as well. I even tried putting it in my basement where there is no light whatsoever at night. I could pan around and see everything. If I couldn't quite make out what I was looking at I could switch on the built in light.(adjustable color temperature and brightness) It would be nice if they update the app so there is a one tap button on screen to toggle the light when in live mode.
It's nice that you can pop in an SD card for local storage. No subscription fees and I think viewing loads much faster.
When choosing a location for this camera, remember it needs to go in a fixture pointing down for best viewing angles and well protected from the elements. I did try it in a table lamp but when it's "upside down", it can only point out straight and not angled "down". It doesn't have that full up and down range, maybe around 75 degrees. It also doesn't rotate a full 360, it has a stop point where you have to pan back the other way. Make sure that point is at the "back" when you mount it.
I think this camera is a great value for the money. I'm definitely gonna have to add more of these to my home.

Lorex’s 2K Wi‑Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan‑Tilt Camera is a clever way to add real security coverage without running wires or hanging another obvious camera. It simply screws into a standard E26 light socket, gives you a bright 400‑lumen white LED, and doubles as a full‑blown 2K pan‑tilt security cam you control from the Lorex app. Installation was simple; can you screw in a light bulb? Congrats, you can install the Lorex.
After I installed the bulb and the app on my iPhone, I was dismayed to see I only had a HD view of the bulb socket. Then I figured out that by using the pan and tilt on the app I could position the bulb’s camera to survey exactly the field of view I wanted.
Video quality is excellent for the price, with sharp 2K resolution, HDR, accurate motion alerts, and color night vision when the light is on, so people and vehicles are easy to identify. The motorized pan‑tilt and auto‑tracking let the camera follow movement and cover a full 360‑degree view, which feels like getting several fixed cameras in one. Two‑way talk, a built‑in siren, and voice control via Alexa/Google Assistant round out the smart‑home integration.
Install and setup are quick, and local microSD recording up to 256 GB means you can skip subscriptions, which is a big plus. On the downside, it does depend on that light socket having constant power, and the bulb is bulkier than a regular lamp, so placement matters. Overall, for easy, incognito coverage over a driveway, porch, or entryway, this lightbulb cam delivers strong value and real peace of mind. I think I’m going to buy a second bulb for the rear of my house since it is so easy to install and works great.

Best Smart Lightbulb Security Camera

This is possibly the simplest, easiest, quickest installation and use of a smart lightbulb security camera combination, ever.
Physical installation? Simply screw it into any existing lightbulb socket. Done! Download the app, create an account, connect it to your WiFi. Done! You can immediately start using it ASAP. This is what I did; it took me less than ten minutes, tops. Then I took my time in fine-tuning the detection settings to my particular needs—you can choose to do as little or as much as you want when choosing motion sensing, person detection, vehicle detection, and sound detection in terms of sensitivity. You can have the camera auto-track movement. You can determine the parameters of a visual box around which a moving subject has been detected. Or you can choose not to even do any of those things—but if you do, it is incredibly accurate.
I also like being able to turn the light on and off remotely. And you can choose the intensity of the light itself as well. The camera resolution and picture clarity is superb. I love being able to pan and tilt via the app to focus on certain things or people as needed. There is two-way audio, and even a siren response in case of an emergency situation. It can be used indoors or outdoors, and there is the capacity for video and/or audio recording; however, storage is limited to a local microSD card (which you need to provide). As of writing this review, there is no subscription service for cloud storage as an option.
For the price, and all the multitude of features packed into it, this is a great security camera and lightbulb combo, perfect for indoors or outside.

Two-in-One Solution

Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart bulb with camera is truly an interesting and a clever two-in-one solution for home security and lighting in my opinion. When I first heard of this product, I thought to myself why other big brands have not introduced such a simple way to monitor your area. It is as simple as screwing it into a bulb socket (it fits any standard light sockets). There are a number of case scenarios where this lightbulb with camera can be used. I have installed one in our basement area, as well as outside in the car port. It provides very good lighting and the pan-tilt camera is perfect for checking on your FedEx/UPS deliveries in the car port.
The camera is surprisingly good. Here are a few manufacturer's features they packed into it:
First of all, it is a 2K resolution: the camera can easily capture sharp video with Color Night Vision for clearer low-light footage. It does have a night vision, however I wish it would go beyond 25 feet.
With the pan and tilt function, you get 360 degree coverage, letting you adjust the viewing angle even when you are not at home. It also can identify people and vehicles, as in my situation is pretty important with deliveries.
I am thankful it does have a local storage option (no MicroSD is provided though) so you don't need to rely on expensive cloud plans.
With lighting adjustments you can set the brightness and color temperature as well as scheduled or motion activated lighting.
All in all, this product presents a great way to keep an eye on your area and provide good lighting at the same time. I like this product and it works well for us.

The Lorex pan tilt led light bulb camera is a nice edition to anyone's security system even with the few con's that I found with it and to be honest the price isn't bad either. It very easy to install and set up unless your like me and keep and can't figure out how to get the camera on the correct direction and that is the small con that I found with the product itself as there is no mark showing which way the camera should face when screwing it into a light socket but once you get it in correctly there is no issue at all the other two cons that I found is the fact that there is very little instruction in the very small booklet they send with it the only other cone is with the app itself which is the sensitivity setting you only have 3 choices low, medium and high there is absolutely no in between setting. The pros to this product are the picture is very clear even at night, the camera itself will track every movement made which you can turn that off in the settings and the light itself can be set to where it will to on when someone is detected also the fact that you don't have to take the sd card out unless your wanting to download the video clips from it you can delete them right from your phone. Other that the cons that I mention it's a great little product the can be used indoors or outdoors. On the outdoor use you do need to make sure as with any type of product that it is in a covered location so it doesn't get wet. This in my opinion is a 100% get it

Excellent Security camera

Time will tell how long this will last outside but so far it's working great and has a good video quality. If you don't have a Lorex account its fairly simple to create one either in the app or online. Just remember your credentials if you do it online, not in the app.
One very nice thing about this security camera is that it is obvious to anyone coming near it what it is. Indoors or outdoors you get a nice clear image and the pan and tilt feature is pretty cool. You can set it in the app and forget and be secure in knowing that whatever area you are using this camera in is covered. The light feature is a nice bonus. Between being able to adjust the color temp and brightness of the white light, you also can set it for dawn to dusk which for some is a great thing if you have this outside in a area that might need a little extra attention. No special skills needed to use this except reading directions and being sable to use a smart phone or tablet. Works with Android and IOS. The local storage is a huge bonus. No subscription needed.
If you are in the market for a security camera that is simple and easy to use, this is one I would give a shot.

False alerts, inconvenient light control
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb with Pan-Tilt camera is a very basic security camera with a basic light. The ease of just screwing it into a light socket is best part of this camera/light.
So, yes it's easy to setup. No screws or drills needed, just a step ladder if the socket is up high like in my case. I installed it in my carport ceiling socket after inserting an sd card. Downloaded the app and started connection. It does take a few minutes to connect and update, but it's does so easily with minimal effort.
The 2K video is very clear, the camera has a very good range and the app allows the user to set zones. There is a privacy mode especially useful if using indoors, but also so I can use my carport without having the camera follow me around.
Now for the problems I encountered and why I would not recommend this camera/light.
The camera has given me hundreds of false alerts over the past week of using it. Day and night. It has alerted me of motion with nothing there. I have scoured so many video recordings looking for what may have activated it, but seriously there was no reason. There was a windy day that I believe the shadows may have have been activating the camera, but all other days had NOTHING. Most of the alerts claimed to be a vehicle sighted. There were no moving vehicles in the recording. It alerted me to a person more than once that was actually a cat roaming. I had a delivery, the camera identified the vehicle, the person and followed the delivery until the person got close to the carport door and then it stopped following him. It did not follow him to the door, nor when he passed the door and placed the very large package on the other side of the carport. It did not pick him up again until he reached the driveway on the way back to the vehicle. Also, while out shopping I received an alert, but was not able to access live feed or the recording.
The light bulb can be set dim or bright, but it can't be set to cool white below 50% or warm light above 50%. So it's not as adjustable as most smart bulbs. It also has to be worked from the app. There is no voice control and the light switch needs to stay on for the camera to be active so the only way to turn the light on and off is either to activate it by going out and standing in front of it or using the app.
I am switching back to the smart bulb I had in my carport socket. The false alerts and inconvenience of light control is not for me.
