Super Useful and Easy to Use

There are so many cool functions on this smart lightbulb camera! Right out of the box it was super easy to install. I inserted a memory card and twisted it into the outdoor socket near my front door. After that, downloaded the Lorex connect app and it detected the device and installed it right away. There are no subscriptions needed to use it and you can save a lot of historic videos directly on the memory card.
Setting up the camera is easy. Click on the device in the app and you can use pan and tilt to point the camera in the default direction. At anytime you can log on and rotate the camera in any direction and almost any angle. In addition you can talk through it, program it to turn the light on when it detects motion or sound, and even set off a siren for protection. The device settings allow you to toggle on or off the vehicle detection, sound detection, and person detection. I turned the vehicle detection and sound detection off and then adjusted the person detection so that it only picked up people in front of the sidewalk, so I didn't get notifications each time a neighbor walked by. Another cool function is that it will track a person or vehicle automatically by following them with the camera.
The notifications are nearly immediate when something is detected, and they appear quickly on my iPhone, iPad and iWatch all at the same time. I can even see the picture on my watch without having to push any buttons. Also, you get notifications no matter where you are, you don't need to be on your own Wi-Fi network for it to work.
I really love this device. The only negative I found is finding a place to mount it. My outside lights where I mounted it have four lights, so to keep the camera active, the inside light switch needs to be on all day and night, and the other 3 lights are also always on. I have thought about getting a plug in light bulb to mount it somewhere else. I'm sure there's a creative solution that I will find.
Overall, I'm very happy with this device and would highly recommend it.

The Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera is an easy to operate camera that fits in a standard lightbulb fixture. Want to install a camera on your front or back porch or anywhere else that you already have an existing light and don't want to deal with any electrical work? Then the Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera is a great option.
The camera is pan and tilt with a 97 degrees field of view with 2K resolution. The Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera also features 2 way audio when you need to communicate. I like this feature for communicating with my kids when they are playing outside and I need to tell them to come inside. Pan and tilt is a great feature as I can view more angle than a standard fixed wifi camera. The lightbulb camera also features auto tracking where it can track and record people automatically. The Lorex smart lightbulb is also still a lightbulb as the top portion produces a cool white to warm white tone that you can adjust in the Lorex app. Sometimes the app can be slow to load when you are checking on an alert or just want to view a live feed but that could be due to my wifi but having said that this is a solid affordable pan & tilt smart camera with super easy installation that anyone can do. I would recommend to anyone.

False alerts, inconvenient light control

The Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb with Pan-Tilt camera is a very basic security camera with a basic light. The ease of just screwing it into a light socket is best part of this camera/light.
So, yes it's easy to setup. No screws or drills needed, just a step ladder if the socket is up high like in my case. I installed it in my carport ceiling socket after inserting an sd card. Downloaded the app and started connection. It does take a few minutes to connect and update, but it's does so easily with minimal effort.
The 2K video is very clear, the camera has a very good range and the app allows the user to set zones. There is a privacy mode especially useful if using indoors, but also so I can use my carport without having the camera follow me around.
Now for the problems I encountered and why I would not recommend this camera/light.
The camera has given me hundreds of false alerts over the past week of using it. Day and night. It has alerted me of motion with nothing there. I have scoured so many video recordings looking for what may have activated it, but seriously there was no reason. There was a windy day that I believe the shadows may have have been activating the camera, but all other days had NOTHING. Most of the alerts claimed to be a vehicle sighted. There were no moving vehicles in the recording. It alerted me to a person more than once that was actually a cat roaming. I had a delivery, the camera identified the vehicle, the person and followed the delivery until the person got close to the carport door and then it stopped following him. It did not follow him to the door, nor when he passed the door and placed the very large package on the other side of the carport. It did not pick him up again until he reached the driveway on the way back to the vehicle. Also, while out shopping I received an alert, but was not able to access live feed or the recording.
The light bulb can be set dim or bright, but it can't be set to cool white below 50% or warm light above 50%. So it's not as adjustable as most smart bulbs. It also has to be worked from the app. There is no voice control and the light switch needs to stay on for the camera to be active so the only way to turn the light on and off is either to activate it by going out and standing in front of it or using the app.
I am switching back to the smart bulb I had in my carport socket. The false alerts and inconvenience of light control is not for me.

Works well, but some things to keep in mind

Let’s get the basics out of the way quickly. This security camera is simple to set up. Just take it out of the box and screw it into a standard light bulb socket, put power to that socket, download the app, and pair your phone with the camera. All of this took me less than five minutes.
I will insert one minor complaint here and say that there are NO instructions included in the box. Not a peep. None are needed for the camera itself because there is no assembly, etc. Just take it out of the box and screw it in. BUT, it would have been nice to be told exactly which app to download. I searched the Google Play store and found an app called “Lorex Classic.” I assumed that this was the correct app and downloaded it. It did not work. Frustrating. So I looked at the box again and noticed that the camera is actually called “Lorex Connect.” At least that what it says on the box. So I searched for an app with this name and found it. I downloaded this one, and everything worked fine. As I said, a quick note in the box indicating exactly which app is needed would be nice.
Back to the camera. It is quite nice. You can pan and tilt it from your phone, and the image is clear and bright. In the right place, the ability to control a security camera from wherever you are in real time is a nice thing. The fixture also has a light that can be turned on and off from the app, so you don’t lose the light in that location when you replace it with this camera.
Having said all of the above, there are some very important factors to consider before you run out and buy one of these.
1. This camera screws into a standard light bulb socket. This means that you need to have a light fixture with a standard socket in an area where you actually want a security camera.
2. The power to this camera must be on all the time. That means that the light socket you’re screwing it in to needs to be the ONLY light on that circuit. Otherwise, whatever other light or lights are controlled by that wall switch will be on all the time, which is probably something most people don’t want.
3. The socket must be pointing down, not sideways.
If you’re like me, you probably want this on the exterior of your house looking out at the walk up to your front door or around the garage or something similar. In my case, I have no single light fixtures in place to do this. I have a fixture on each side of the front door controlled by a single switch and three fixtures across the garage area, also all controlled by single switch. So this camera would not work in these locations unless I removed the bulbs from the other fixtures or left them on all the time, neither of which I wanted to do.
I do have a single wall fixture next to the house’s back door, and this is where I mounted the camera. Not where I would most like the camera to be, but it’s something as it monitors the back yard area.
One other consideration is the wall fixture into which you would insert this camera. The camera as a whole is about eight inches long, with the camera at the bottom. If you have a large fixture enclosure where the socket is well up inside, you might find that the camera does not stick down far enough to clear the bottom of the fixture. In a case like this, all the camera would see would be the metal framing of the fixture, which would obscure the view.
So keep all the above in mind. This camera is nice in that there is no assembly, no mounting issues, and, once you have the correct app, simple to get operating. But you have to have the specific situation as described above if the camera will be of any use to you.

Time will tell how long this will last outside but so far it's working great and has a good video quality. If you don't have a Lorex account its fairly simple to create one either in the app or online. Just remember your credentials if you do it online, not in the app.
One very nice thing about this security camera is that it is obvious to anyone coming near it what it is. Indoors or outdoors you get a nice clear image and the pan and tilt feature is pretty cool. You can set it in the app and forget and be secure in knowing that whatever area you are using this camera in is covered. The light feature is a nice bonus. Between being able to adjust the color temp and brightness of the white light, you also can set it for dawn to dusk which for some is a great thing if you have this outside in a area that might need a little extra attention. No special skills needed to use this except reading directions and being sable to use a smart phone or tablet. Works with Android and IOS. The local storage is a huge bonus. No subscription needed.
If you are in the market for a security camera that is simple and easy to use, this is one I would give a shot.

The Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera is a nifty little device with a cool idea. You like smart lights? Who doesn't? What about cameras? Of course! Now imagine slapping those two things together into one device and that's essentially what you have here.
Setup is pretty quick. Screw the Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Pan-Tilt Camera into any standard light fixture, power it on and follow the instructions. Setup is quick, you'll grab the new lorex app, connect to wifi, then the camera will update. After that you can go through the software and play around to your hearts content.
What can I say about this thing? It does what it says on the tin. It offers a nice soft light diffuse light from the bulb and! you also have a camera that you can rotate to follow and track whatever interests you. A squirrel. Kids on your lawn. That neighbors dog that always gets into your flowers. They can't avoid your gaze now. Seriously it's good, works well, and is super easy to set up.
The only issue I have with this thing is that it's ugly as sin. There's no getting around the fact that the big black orb hanging from this thing is a piece of surveillance equipment. I'm not sure what could be done better here, but it's a very specific aesthetic. I don't love it. It doesn't match any of my other exterior fixtures now and stands out like a bit of a sore thumb. Not a flaw exactly, just be aware that this is not a very discreet-looking piece of tech.

This was the hardest review to score that I’ve come across in years. Teetering the finest line between 5 stars and 4 so bear with me as I dissect this.
First and foremost. I LOVE this item. It’s so beyond easy to install, the quality is there, it’s so customizable, and practical that I’ve already recommended it to multiple friends.
It’s literally a light bulb with a high tech security camera attached. Thats it. Such a no brainer that I feel silly for not inventing it. No wires, no complicated install, screws, mounts, holes in the wall, just screw it into where your light used to go and you’re off to the races. It’s a tad heavy for a light bulb (due to the camera) but anyone can install this who is fully mobile.
Full transparency: I’ve never heard of Lorex before. I’ve also never seen one of these either and judging by its app-compatibility and the amount of reviews on their apps, I assume they’re a younger company with room to improve, which brings us to the app and the only reason this isn’t 5 full stars.
The app is great. Easy to use, and full of customizable features. Want a warm yellow light or a bright white? Use the slider. Want to enable two way communication? Hit the button and start talking. Want to hide the camera for privacy? Select that button. Anything you could want to do, is an option.
The only downside is some of those options just don’t work right. For example, there’s an option to select a specific time for the light to turn on. Great, I moved it to 4pm-11pm. Problem is that even though it’s hooked to wifi and you can see a clock running on the screen, the light has never followed that schedule. I’ve also noticed a few times that other features I’ve selected on the app will be selected but not saved (even when I hit save).
Lastly, maybe the most disappointing part is that you seemingly can’t setup permanent motion zones. The camera can’t zoom out enough to catch my whole yard (which is quite small) and sits along a busy road. I don’t want every car and person getting caught in my sensor so I setup mapping of the areas to capture. Problem being, since the camera doesn’t capture my whole yard, I have to move the lens to look around, but now the mapping is static to the new view. The 20% on the bottom of the screen that I’d previously mapped for one side of the yard, no has moved with the camera and doesn’t at all match the other side of the yard but there’s no way to setup one master map, it’s only where the camera currently points. Because of that, this mostly just becomes useful for keeping a single point of focus.
All said, again, I love this product. I imagine many app shortcomings can be fixed through updates, but for now, it’s not perfect. As an easy to install security camera that acts as a light, is discrete, has an alarm, two way audio, and many other options though, they hit a home run.

Best Smart Lightbulb Security Camera

This is possibly the simplest, easiest, quickest installation and use of a smart lightbulb security camera combination, ever.
Physical installation? Simply screw it into any existing lightbulb socket. Done! Download the app, create an account, connect it to your WiFi. Done! You can immediately start using it ASAP. This is what I did; it took me less than ten minutes, tops. Then I took my time in fine-tuning the detection settings to my particular needs—you can choose to do as little or as much as you want when choosing motion sensing, person detection, vehicle detection, and sound detection in terms of sensitivity. You can have the camera auto-track movement. You can determine the parameters of a visual box around which a moving subject has been detected. Or you can choose not to even do any of those things—but if you do, it is incredibly accurate.
I also like being able to turn the light on and off remotely. And you can choose the intensity of the light itself as well. The camera resolution and picture clarity is superb. I love being able to pan and tilt via the app to focus on certain things or people as needed. There is two-way audio, and even a siren response in case of an emergency situation. It can be used indoors or outdoors, and there is the capacity for video and/or audio recording; however, storage is limited to a local microSD card (which you need to provide). As of writing this review, there is no subscription service for cloud storage as an option.
For the price, and all the multitude of features packed into it, this is a great security camera and lightbulb combo, perfect for indoors or outside.

Two-in-One Solution

Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart bulb with camera is truly an interesting and a clever two-in-one solution for home security and lighting in my opinion. When I first heard of this product, I thought to myself why other big brands have not introduced such a simple way to monitor your area. It is as simple as screwing it into a bulb socket (it fits any standard light sockets). There are a number of case scenarios where this lightbulb with camera can be used. I have installed one in our basement area, as well as outside in the car port. It provides very good lighting and the pan-tilt camera is perfect for checking on your FedEx/UPS deliveries in the car port.
The camera is surprisingly good. Here are a few manufacturer's features they packed into it:
First of all, it is a 2K resolution: the camera can easily capture sharp video with Color Night Vision for clearer low-light footage. It does have a night vision, however I wish it would go beyond 25 feet.
With the pan and tilt function, you get 360 degree coverage, letting you adjust the viewing angle even when you are not at home. It also can identify people and vehicles, as in my situation is pretty important with deliveries.
I am thankful it does have a local storage option (no MicroSD is provided though) so you don't need to rely on expensive cloud plans.
With lighting adjustments you can set the brightness and color temperature as well as scheduled or motion activated lighting.
All in all, this product presents a great way to keep an eye on your area and provide good lighting at the same time. I like this product and it works well for us.

As my title suggests there are pros and cons to this device but overall I gave it 4 stars because it does what it's intended to do and does a relatively good job doing that. The camera works well and has the pan and tilt function so that you can view all around you (you meaning the camera). Within the app you are able to have presets for camera positions so that if you have multiple areas you want to watch you can create a preset and then just go back to that preset position with a quick push in the app. I don't have any major issues with the camera itself. However I have some with the "light" part of this fixture. First the light that the bulb provides is not that bright. In fact it's pretty dim. I have this device installed in a ceiling fixture in my garage and if I didn't already have the bulb provided in my garage door opener my garage would be very dim just based on the Lorex lightbulb alone. Next I'm not that pleased with the motion detection. I'm guessing that motion is only detected in the direction the camera is facing as I've tested walking all around the camera. I'm not 100% sure about this but at least in my use and testing this is what I've experienced. Last I don't like that you have to keep the light switch that corresponds to the fixture in the on position all the time. If you're able to turn on and off at will but still provide some camera functionality then that would be ideal. Lastly I couldn't find any useful documentation to write home about, I read through the online help and looked in the app but couldn't really find instructions. But, the app helps out with onboarding so I guess that's not as big of an issue as my other gripes.

So, we have tried a few different options for video cameras at our properties. We certainly prefer wireless options as they are just easier to set up in older buildings that are not already set up or wired with internet and or electical outkets in the areas where camers woukd ideally go.
This option makes all that a non issue. Its very easy to set up and just screw it into a light socket. As long as ot is within range of wi fi it is good to go. Dowmload the app and it walks you through the set up and getting your dashboard set up in a few minutes.
The user interface and settings are easy yo navigste. Notifications, motion detection and recording are customizable from tbe app.
What I have found so far is the video resolution is vlear and crisp. The dashboard also has controls to pan and tilt to different dirsctions.
We are using this one in an exit foyer that was previously not covered by our current system, so this is an add on. Since this system does alliw for additional cameras to be added to the dashboard, we may expand byvadding more cameras. Really like the ability to view, communicate vis voice or activate the siren for an intruder, but also recoring and video saving and playback functions without a monthly subscription. This is a big convenience and minry saver! I like what i am seeing so far and expect expansio n to more devises soon!

The Lorex Connect 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera is a device I didn’t know I needed, but now I can’t see myself without it. It has allowed me to combine three devices into one in an area where less is best. I installed my Lorex smart lightbulb camera on my front porch which allows me to remove my motion sensor light bulb and security camera and use them in other areas around the house. I’ve only had this smart lightbulb camera for a couple days and I have already figured out how to work all of the features and they have worked seamlessly.
The Lorex Connect 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera was well packaged in a small box just large enough to house the device. Nevertheless, it contained premium cushion that effectively protected the bulb and camera. As soon as you open the box, included are nice introduction inserts and a welcoming card. Also included is a security sticker that I plan to place on the window closest to the smart camera bulb which also serves as a deterrent. Inside the fold flap are instructions directing you to scan a QR code and from there you’re guided to next steps and every step thereafter until set-up is complete.
Once you take the Lorex Smart Lightbulb Camera out of the box and follow the instructions for setting up the camera, you’ll quickly discover that it’s a very easy setup. The process connecting to the WiFi was easy. Once connected to the WiFi the update only took a couple minutes. Setup was almost as easy as flipping a switch (because I screwed in the blub, switched the light switch on and connected the WiFi).
The 2K resolution visuals look amazingly clear and sharpe and the color night vision is better than expected as I have no issues seeing at night. I am able to see a lot of detail. There are so many options, modes and control via the app. I love the pan and tilt feature as it allows me to almost have a 360 degree view (it’s actually 360); because of that pan-tilt feature I am able to see my front yard and front door and everything around it. I have my smart bulb light set to activate on motion. It works perfectly at night. As soon as motion is detected, the light comes on and starts recording. The light is bright and can be adjusted to soft if necessary. Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to not have the light activated during the day. I receive an instant notification via the app. As an added bonus that I did not anticipate is I am able to see a preview snapshot right on my smart watch. The built in AI identifies people and vehicles. I am able to use 2-way communication which is clear to hear. If there is a threat I can set off a siren. Additionally, if I am away from home, I can set up automatic alerts for movement/activity and have the alarm sound off. You are able to set sections for privacy in those areas (high traffic) where you do not want to receive alerts.
Lorex has plans to add more features in the near future. They also plan to add cloud storage. Currently you’re able to add a microSD card for your recordings locally, which works fine for me. I hope Lorex makes one that can withstand harsh weather (rain, snow, wind, heat, etc.) so that I can purchase another one to place in my yard. Overall, I am very pleased with the Lorex Connect 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera. I would purchase it again, I recommend purchasing it and would not hesitate rating this 5 out of 5 stars.

I've tried several different security systems over the last couple of years, mostly wireless and run on battery power. I find that for the most part, I don't need an expansive multi-camera system, and keeping up with charging so many different batteries on these systems is just too much for me to maintain. After giving it a lot of thought, I really only want coverage at my front and back doors, maybe a camera in the living room. I landed on the lightbulb camera, which seemed super easy, running on wired power without having to wire anything by just screwing it into a socket, which DOES work very well. I also liked the idea that the space would already be pre-lit since the camera is also a light. Unfortunately, though, after using this unit for several weeks, I realize that having the camera on the bottom hinders the ability for the light itself to completely or effectively illuminate the front porch, which is where I installed mine. My porch light sconce is on the longer side, though, so I guess this problem could be fixed if I switched out to a shorter version? The problem with that is I feel like the camera would be more noticeable. As far as the actual performance, I am pretty impressed. The range isn't as far as a more expensive camera, but I really only care to see my porch, front yard area and my driveway where my car is parked at night. This does the job just fine, even at 2k resolution instead of 4k. The two-way audio is kind of muffled, but it could be the fact that we've had some heavier rain in San Diego recently, and there's no note anywhere about how wet the unit should or shouldn't get. All in all, for the price and for the basic functionality I need, I'm happy I took a chance on it. I'll likely upgrade to something a bit more high-tech in the future, but this serves it's purpose for now. I'd recommend for outside of an indoor apartment for sure!

The Lorex pan tilt led light bulb camera is a nice edition to anyone's security system even with the few con's that I found with it and to be honest the price isn't bad either. It very easy to install and set up unless your like me and keep and can't figure out how to get the camera on the correct direction and that is the small con that I found with the product itself as there is no mark showing which way the camera should face when screwing it into a light socket but once you get it in correctly there is no issue at all the other two cons that I found is the fact that there is very little instruction in the very small booklet they send with it the only other cone is with the app itself which is the sensitivity setting you only have 3 choices low, medium and high there is absolutely no in between setting. The pros to this product are the picture is very clear even at night, the camera itself will track every movement made which you can turn that off in the settings and the light itself can be set to where it will to on when someone is detected also the fact that you don't have to take the sd card out unless your wanting to download the video clips from it you can delete them right from your phone. Other that the cons that I mention it's a great little product the can be used indoors or outdoors. On the outdoor use you do need to make sure as with any type of product that it is in a covered location so it doesn't get wet. This in my opinion is a 100% get it
