After lengthy research, we purchased the Sonance MAG 4.1. Actually we purchase two sets. Both sets were installed around our pool powered by one of the Sonos amps. The other amp was repurposed to another room in the house. The speakers were spaced approximately 12 feet apart with the bass speaker centered, two speakers on each side of it. The other set was installed in the same fashion on the opposite side of the pool. The Sonos amp performs flawlessly at 4 ohms. The sound from the system is crystal clear with crisp, premium sound quality. The bass from the subwoofer is almost unbelievable. I appreciate the fact that I don’t have to crank up the volume to hear great sound quality on the other side of the pool. Although, if you want to crank it, you certainly can. You will get the same great sound quality and it will leave you grinning in amazement and satisfaction.
The install is straightforward and easy as long as you understand what the install entails and have a plan.
This system provides a great listening experience and will leave you smiling.

I don’t normally write reviews on products. But I felt this product is deserving of a review. Let me start by saying that these speakers by Sonance are amazing!!! After reading all the great reviews I decided to give it a chance. I honestly was not expecting much from landscape speakers, thinking the outside environment would consume the bass and sound. I was totally wrong and overly surprised by how crisp and loud these speakers are. I live in south Florida where our building codes require the houses be built with CBS block and let me say my neighbor came outside to tell me he can here the thump of the bass. With that being said, yes there expensive but well worth the price. I would recommend these speakers. As an added bonus it came with the Sonos amp which is a plus for streaming music directly from your phone. The installation is a little time consuming but any DIYer should be able to accomplish it. If not get professional help for installation. Hope this helps anyone who’s on the fence about buying them.

The Speaker Package
The Sonance MAG 4.1 is a serious outdoor landscape speaker system. I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to open, install, and listen to. If done correctly it is an involved installation, but it is worth it. The sound quality is great and the volume is plentiful. I knew that this would be good because it’s Sonos and Sonance, but I had no idea…
What Comes In the Box
The box is big (almost coffee table size), and it has a lot of goodies. The first thing you will notice is the massive subwoofer. It measures about 22” tall and 12” wide at the mushroom top. There’s another packaging box that contains the 4 satellite speakers and wire nuts. A third box holds the Sonos Amp (250 Watts @ 8 Ohms). There’s a iPort xPress keypad to control the device, and a relatively short set of instructions. Note that there’s no speaker wire, so purchase some before you attempt to install it.
The Installation
You’ve gotta do some work to install this properly (per instructions). I wouldn’t recommend this to an amateur or anyone that can’t perform physical labor. If you fit either of these descriptions you may want to hire this out. Check with Geek Squad if you are in-store.
The installation is involved mostly because of wiring. The subwoofer needs to be buried in-ground (instructions say up to 5” below the bottom of the mushroom head). The Sonos Amp needs to be installed indoors and connected to Wi-Fi, so there’s going to be a wire to run from indoors to the speakers outdoors. You’ll be running 2 pair of wires from the amp, and the wire is recommended to be buried in a 4-5” trench. Depending on how far away the speakers are from the wall penetration, this will determine the amount of effort you will need to make to get the speakers connected. The instructions recommend using a direct bury 14/4 wire. Once the wire is run, everything else is pretty easy. The Sonos Amp is set up through the Sonos app on your phone and it will get you connected to your Wi-Fi so that you can stream to the speakers.
Recommended Speaker Array
The instructions will tell you to plan ahead before running the wire and determine the speaker positions early. The subwoofer should be in the middle of the array. The satellites are to be placed (optimally) 8 to 10 feet from the subwoofer and from each other. The instructions label two of the satellites as left and the other 2 as right, so it’s basically 2 pair of stereo speakers on each side of the subwoofer. The connections are a daisy-chain. The left channel of the amp runs to the two left speakers and one half of the subwoofer. The right channel runs to the right speakers and the other half of the subwoofer. All of the wiring is connected by the provided wire nuts. Note that these wire nuts are intended for a one-time use. The satellite speakers are 16 Ohm, so once you connect the two together you get an 8 Ohm load on the amp.
Sound Results
This is where my jaw dropped. The sound quality on this set of speakers is crazy. It was clear and strong, controlled and well-balanced. I’ve been known to turn up my music, but I couldn’t turn this all the way up. The volume was incredible. My wife said that she could clearly hear the music and words standing in the closet of a bedroom on the 2nd floor on the opposite side of the house. And that was at around half volume. (She let me know quickly). Even the satellites have a little bass. I tried a wide variety of music, and it basically came down to the recording fidelity. If the recording was great you heard all of it. The sound was amazing.
Here is a quick list of Pros and Cons for the MAG 4.1 System.
Pros
*Really impressive sound
*High quality
*Uses the Sonos Amp – lots of features, easy to control
*Can add other Sonos products to this
Cons
*The installation – lots of work
*No wire in box (but understandable with individual needs)
*The price point (you get what you pay for at least)
I’m giving the Sonance MAG 4.1 Outdoor Streaming System 5 stars. It takes a lot to impress me, but the sound quality was great. It was loud, and somewhat flexible to fit a good variety of outdoor speaker arrangements. Yes, the install is quite a bit of work, but in this case the end result makes it worth it. This Sonance/Sonos combo is awesome.

The combination of amp and sparkers with subwoofer creates impressive sound. For what it can deliver cannot be described from the photograph available in the web unless physically have hand on and test then feel it.
Being audiophile aficionado, at glance, upon connecting to Sonos Amp, the conjunction of sound atmosphere created is inviting in smooth way.
Single speaker and Subwoofer alone creates nice still relevant sound.
Naturally, there are many elements that might interfere, but considering all equals quiet environment at backyard, definitely creates superb sound at outdoor.
Previous to installation in the backyard, tested in a closed environment to isolate its real potential by setting up in the living room. The subwoofer pairs incredibly well with the passive speakers and as control via Sonos application equalizer.
In term of its built material is sturdy well for outdoor installation. Although need to be wait and see through time, but it looks to resist in Bay Area weather.
It is bit pricy items but experience created in between once installed, cannot be compared with just placing portable speakers.
Only thing I would have liked to have is for the price point include in the pack set of longer cable. As is comes by default just enough.
In term of product enhancement would love to see each speaker connected via wifi to the subwoofer or Sonos Amp. I would prefer to deal with power connection rather than designing the cable to hook with subwoofer and rest of speaker.
Rating is given based on the level of sound can produce for what meant to be the product.

I want to start this review to say that you really need to plan out how you would like to have your outdoor setup to be like. Sonance does a good job with the instructions but you need an audio installer or the know how to do it yourself. You will still need to get some materials like tools and audio wiring to get this to work, so expect to dish out to start hooking this up. Also, living here in Chicago where we have already had cold snowy weather the last few weeks, you need to make sure your wiring is rated for outdoor use. If you use regular audio cabling then make sure you use some sort of conduit PVC piping to run your wiring through. I had a difficult time in the initial setup since I was installing it myself. The digging and installing conduit takes a good amount of time and effort to get done. See the unboxing photo for the equipment that you need to individually wire up to the amp.
Once you figure out the physical installation of your equipment, you can then use the app to get things installed. Sonos' app does a good job with ease of use. The downside is that you need a iOS device to setup the included iport Xpress controller.
Come spring, I may play around with the layout of my speakers to get it to my liking but I don't think I will get much out of it for the remainder of this year since it is below freezing out now.

Purchased this system after a few weeks of research for a pool surround. I had the ability to wire the system with the four satellite speakers firing back towards my house with the subwoofer in the center. My wife was a little shocked about the price tag but I clearly recall her face when I fired it up for the first time. Even my neighbors came out and asked, “where in the hell did you get that!” Although, it does a very good job of keeping the sound relatively contained to the listening space. Make the investment, you will not be disappointed.

I have been using the MAG 4.1 system since this past spring. It has worked flawlessly. The speakers sound great. I ended up buying another set in late summer because I liked them so much. Very easy to install and I don't have much experience doing that sort of thing. Worst part was digging the hole for the sub. Went with this for the Sonos integration which is top notch.

I purchased 2 of these for my back yard and one of them works great. Both arrived promptly and I set about installing the speakers. All went well until I tried to add the Amps to my original Sonos system. One of the Amps would not connect, despite multiple attempts, while the other connected fine. The frustration is that it took forever to get through to Best Buy and them get them to understand that I was not about to remove a sub-woofer and four speakers that I had painstakingly installed and buried all the cables, and that I only needed a replacement amp. As of now, I am still waiting delivery of an entire system, so that I can exchange the amp and send it back. So far it has been 8 days and the Best Buy system is showing 2 more weeks before I will receive the new system!!!!!

I had high expectations for this system, but after hooking it up for a test run before final install I wasn’t impressed. The (4) satellite speakers come off tinny / flat and over power the subwoofer. Even after adjusting the EQ within the Sonos app I just wasn’t satisfied. The Sonos amp is nice and being able to connect directly to it thru the Sonos amp is awesome.
I also inquired to Sonance about possibly expanding the system to a 8.2. Sonance said it is possible with Sonos amp, but could not advise in doing so as they do not make the Sonos amp and couldn’t verify the amp would be stable at 4 ohm. The other downside is you can’t just buy these satellite speakers or 8” sub, you would have to purchase another MAG 4.1 system. I asked about adding (4) patio series satellite speakers, but once again Sonance did not recommend it as there would be the possibility of some audio mismatch in the two types of speakers.
In the end I decided to return this and have orders the 8.1 Garden Series. I’m hopeful the two way satellite speakers are of better quality and the 10” sub provided a little more than the 8” sub that came with the MAG 4.1. Also the Garden Series Sonance Amp has different EQ Settings to better tune the system.

I was looking at the 8.1 Sonance garden series. I had a demo kit brought to my house. It sounded great. I decided to go with the patio 4.1 but bought 2 and have an 8.2 system with two Sonos amps. One of my neighbors was also looking into speakers and he ended up also buying 2 sets. It was very easy to install and the sound is amazing.

The Sonance outdoor system is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Just spent a small fortune on my backyard putting in a pool with all of the goodies. Needed an impressive sound system to go with such an elaborate backyard. This is an expensive system, but worth every penny! I had no idea how good an outdoor system could sound. It's powerful and feels like your listening to live music at an outdoor amphitheater. The sound is full and rich and that is because of the quality of this system. I've heard other systems that just sound like loud, blaring noise. You will definitely hear and feel the difference. I'm familiar with stereo/speaker installations, so this was very easy to install. I use the app on my iPhone to control the system, which is another great benefit. I highly recommend this system.
