Customers consistently note the fun and engaging gameplay, with many praising the open world and ease of use. The story is also frequently cited as a positive aspect, though some find the controls challenging and the game repetitive after a while. A few players mentioned encountering glitches, and the camera controls were also a source of some frustration. Despite these drawbacks, the game's generally positive reception is bolstered by its price point and the availability of a free PS5 upgrade.

When I think of a Shark game, the kind where you roam around and pick off humans and fisherman, I think JAWS. A simple and refined concept of man versus Shark and that's about it. What "Maneater" has accomplished goes far above my expectations of what a Shark game could be. The ability to level up and customize your Shark through mutations and take on various level hunters and side quests to further develop your blood thirsty revenge on the ones who hunt and kill your family and friends is amazing.
I will give this game 5/5 stars because its concept, bang for your buck, and game play has me playing this for hours/days. That being said, buyer beware, their may be a few times where the game glitches and crashes on you. This has not caused me any significant dread as the progress is always saved. The frame rate may lag at times as the SHARK is covering a lot of ground at a fast rate.
One cannot help but to think that with the PS5 coming out along with its processing power and frame/pixel enhancements, that this games sometimes troublesome glitches would be solved....But in either case, I absolutely love this game and its well worth the ride!

Funny writing, great gameplay and worth your time. I platinumed this twice for both ps5/ps4 because the process is so fun. Being a shark is done really well and the grind from small to large is fun

So I saw this game a week or two before release date and thought it looked cool so I pre-ordered it. I got the physical version from Bestbuy for PS4 day of release. It went through the typical updates and then it was game on. Now I've never been a shark before, but let me tell you...being a shark is pretty freaking sweet. You start out learning the controls and stuff by eating and attacking various swimming creatures. But then the first real mission starts and you get to go after some humans! It was awesome! Pure carnage: Blood blood blood! Gnashing! Thrashing! Entrails! Screaming! Blood blood blood! I truly felt like a fearsome predator and my adrenaline was pumping. I'm only a few hours into it now and there's lots more stuff but I don't want to spoil it for you. But seriously, eating creatures is freaking cool. Enjoy.

My game of the year... Well it's up there with FF7 Remake.
I needed something different after the long hours I spent with other RPGs. This was perfect. Yes, it can be repetitive at times, but repetitive FUN is good, and the game is not that long, so when you get to the end you're not at that point where you're bored and tired of mechanics. Eating crocs and even whales is crazy. It's short and easy to play.
One of those games you can zone out and just enjoy without having to worry to much about controls or convoluted stories.
I hope they make a sequel!

I bought this with the intent to use the ps5 upgrade. It was really easy to do and the game itself is what I wanted. A shark jumping onto beach’s chomping down on randoms. But it’s mindless and I’d say close to one of the most repetitive games I’ve played. The only difference was the shark gets bigger the missions and objectives never change.

Pros: Great story and found the game refreshing. Playing as a shark and grow into a megalodon was fun to see.
Con: On my base PS4 the game crashes hard at least 4 times. I would also recommend not to waste time on boss enemy's like the alligator in the first area. I will say it can get repetitive if what you need to do and collecting resources.
If your checking on price I paid $15.

This is a pretty cool game you get to play as a shark and you grow and level up and get better teeth and stuff like that however it is far from perfect The camera and controls are very hard to learn and master even after playing for hours I still had trouble with it but if you can power through that it's a fun game and while worth it

This is a well made game with very unique gameplay. Very cool to see a hunting game that turns the tables around where you play as shark instead of human. The shark’s revenge mission that plays into the story’s central theme is fun. I highly recommend if you are looking for a high quality game to shake things up.

It isn't the best thing I've ever played but it is certainly a good time. Simple gameplay can be a bit repetitive but there is so much to explore. Very much a collectathon game with minor platforming. For around $15 it is definitely worth a pickup.

So all in all this game is a really fun experience. I LOVE the framing device of the game. It leads to a lot of hilarious dialogue from the games narrator (Chris Parnell) The actual gameplay itself is pretty fun along with the mission you’re asked to do, even if they end up being slightly repetitive after a while (Ex. you’re tasked with eating an X number of enemies in one area, then in another tasked with doing the same but with another enemy type) My main problem with game is that unfortunately underwater combat can be a hassle as theirs no lock on enemy feature leading to hectic and chaotic fights. But still, that doesn’t detract from the experience of the game which is overall fun and hilarious if you can overlook some flaws of gameplay and design.

Maneater is a fun RPG that sadly manages to have a lot of the same gameplay. The RPG elements of the game work well, but there is too little story and the game would be a lot better with story missions. However, eating things as a shark is fun and the open world is beautiful.

This game is so fun. It's an easy platinum. Just collect and do every mission. The worst part is the fact you press the trigger to bite so you press that button more than any game you have ever played and it will hurt ur fingers. But it's a fun game.

You know that game you beat with an open world that you constantly go back to for years just to run around destroying stuff to blow off steam and have fun? This game basically skips ahead to that point.
It's short but if you take your time and just spread it out it's pretty enjoyable and can give you a decent amount of play time. The upgrades and mutations that make it more than just a natural shark are beyond ridiculous but in a fun way and the narration is downright hilarious at times. Lots of puns and easter egg type things to find and explore. It would be great if they come up with some DLC for more areas but for what it is, it's pretty darn good.

This game is just pure dumb fun. You play as a shark who is just trying to survive in the world (all while a narrator makes cheesy jokes along the way). Want to eat some fish? Go for it. Want to jump onto land and start attacking tourists? Go for it.
There's a very loose story but it doesn't serve much of a purpose. Just something to signify that you've pretty much done everything in the game. If you're looking for a game with a story, this isn't it.
The game looks great when it comes to visuals. My only complaint is that it can start to lag a little bit if there's too much going on at once (like eating way too many fish back-to-back at once in a crowded part of the game).
Overall a great game. Definitely recommend if you just want to turn off your brain for a bit.

I was interested in this game having previously owned “Jaws: Unleashed” for the PS2. While there is a main story to follow and play through, it is a tad on the shallow and predictable side. That said, it’s still a fun and engaging experience to the end. Where I think this game thrives, are it’s mechanics (though a little difficult at first, but a blast once you’ve gotten the hang of it). There is so much to explore too and the effects of the open ocean and it’s creatures are incredibly well done. There is so much to do and see and tons of neat nostalgic collectibles to find just in the world outside the story alone. I don’t know that this game is for everyone, but if you’re in the mood for something absolutely bonkers and insane, both in a very good way, this is the perfect change of pace for you!!

Decent and fun game. Can be repetitive at times, but story is entertaining and gameplay (while simple) kept me engaged. Also pretty easy platinum trophy!
