This is a simple receiver, almost entirely HDMI based, but there are a lot if HDMI ports to manage everything. The power is discrete, and the separation is fabulous. If you have a 5.1 setup and reasonably efficient speakers, this is all you're going to need. The clarity of sound is excellent. It sounds very Marantz. Not as loud but cleaner than my denon, with so much better efficiency of power delivery. It produces a fraction of the heat. Love this receiver.
The on screen display is spartan but effective, if that bothers you get the next step up for Marantz's fancier version and the streaming toys. I didn't need either. All I care about is ease and sound and this delivers. It feels very conservative in its rms rating.

Great sound, easy setup, plenty of HDMI inputs, great price. What more needs to be said? The height, or lack thereof, was a bonus given the limited space we have in the corner entertainment cabinet.

Bought this to replace a Yamaha that served me well but had no HDMI connection capability. Was heading for another Yamaha but sales consultant from Magnolia suggested this alternative which save me $100+. Great sound, compact, easier to use than my old receiver. I run it into a fairly upscale 5.1 speaker system (Definition and Paradigm) and has plenty of power and crispness. I had a Marantz stereo receiver many years ago and loved it then, so the name was familiar to me.

If you only have limited room and feature requirements, I highly recommend this receiver. Marantz makes some of the best high-end audio equipment, and even though this is on the lower end of their range, the design considerations they made are spot on.
This is one of the few (maybe only?) choices for slim design receivers; they seem to have a few more in Europe, but not here in the States.
There are enough HDMI connections for most setups (6 inputs), and it is uncluttered with internet or streaming features. These are not necessary with the multitude of other devices that provide them, often with better implementations.
Setup is simple if you use the included Audyssey wizard and mic.
Overall, this is an excellent receiver with only the essential features at an excellent price.

I use a Marantz AV7005 for my main home theater and purchased the Marantz Slimline NR1403 for use in a bedroom. The Slimline has pared downed features compared to the AV7005. Set up was easy and operating multiple sources is a breeze with the remote control.
I paired the Slimline with average in-wall speakers (front 6" woofer 2" tweeter, rear ceiling 6" woofer 2" tweeter, and 8" subwoofer) and Klipsch center speaker. The rear speakers are a bit overpowering at times, considering I used the microphone automatic set up. I do not notice this on my AV7005. Otherwise the sound quality is great. For a smaller theater setup it provides ample power, good sound quality, and ease of use.
I assume the system would generate higher sound quality and power if paired with larger speakers. The microphone system determined the speakers were all small. When I had the Klipsch on the AV7005, it classified it as a large speaker with the rest of the speakers. I believe the size of the in-wall speakers set the entire system at small.

I love this little receiver. I had a space requirement for the new media stand I bought and needed to find an A/V receiver that did not exceed 6" in height. This slimline receiver greatly outperforms the Sony unit it replaced. Specifically I noticed the channel separation was far superior and sound clarity was much more natural. The included Audyssey microphone and on screen sound setup guide was a big help. Takes a lot of the guesswork out of setting up db levels. It even warned of the fact that I had the black and the red speaker wire reversed on one of my front channel speakers. Awesome unit for it's size.

I purchased this unit as it received great reviews PLUS it was short enough to fit into my stand. I had my eyes on a Sony which had more options but was over twice as high. The unit doesn't have blue tooth - can purchase for extra - which I don't need right now but I can't predict my future needs and would have liked it. Super easy to set up and the included microphone which you move around the room so the audio can be optimized revealed that one of my speakers had the wires crossed - didn't know that and it's been that way for years so I was impressed it was able to find that out.
Also when you change channels, the sound starts low and builds up so good control of volume between stations.
Overall, I'm happy with Marantz.

I remember having a Marantz tuner growing up, it was a quality built piece of equipment that never failed. Needless to say a lot has changed since then. I bought this receiver based on my experience with Marantz and what I needed. This is a perfect option for a smaller townhouse or apartment, plenty of power to drive a full surround system. The set up is easy and sound quality is great. The features available in this receiver are a bargain.

we went to BB after our receiver went to the electronics store in the sky. we decided to go with a slimline model because part of the previous units death was attributed to overheating due to being in too tight quarters.
We spent more time picking out the receiver, picking it up, deciding on new livingroom furniture & buying that then I did setting up the new receiver.
Only Downside: came with a microphone thingy to optimize your speaker setup and sound....well our 'surround sound' is just that, surround sound with air quotes...we have a center speaker that acts as our front speaker and then two rear speakers behind our couch....so the automated optimized sound didn't work. maybe we'll try later when we drop cash for actual surround speakers
quick summary - great product, does what its meant to. be warned that this might start an avalanche of living room redecoration & frustration due to lack of speakers.

I bought this along with a set of Definitive Technology speakers to fill my rather small )~250 sq. ft.) living room. It drives the speakers with ample power to spare. Has all the features I need and the smaller form-factor (small height) makes it blend in very nicely with my other components. I was hesitant based in the low-power rating, but don't let that stop you from buying this. Matched with good-quality speakers, it creates excellent sound for both music and movies. Plus the room correction microphone set-up was the easiest part of the whole thing. Love it.

I replaced a more powerful, larger Onkyo receiver with this unit. I was a little concerned the lower power of this unit, 50 watts per channel, might be a problem. That has not been an issue. The sound easily fills the room for both movie and audio playback. I have it in a 5.1 setup with full range Polk towers for the main speakers. No problems providing good sound out of these in stereo or surround. It may not be able to deliver ear damaging sound levels for stereo cd listening, but it can take it up to a nice loud, accurate, enjoyable level. Movie volume is very good and the surround effect seems more pronounced with this receiver than my old one. Also, a good selection of surround effect choices for non-surround material. I like Neo-6 the best for cd and mp3 input
6 hdmi inputs is more than enough for me, as is the 5 speaker surround output. Had 7.1 before and never found a need to use the 6th or 7th speaker. 5 speakers more than fill the room and that's pretty much the standard soundtrack anyway. 3D pass through works flawlessly and was the main reason I needed a new receiver.
The front display is good; providing information on the input selected and the source audio type.
It's a very attractive unit and I like the low profile look as it doesn't overpower the other devices hooked up to it.

I needed a compact receiver that would fit in a height of less than 5 inches, and this is the only unit I could find. I was hesitant to buy a Marantz, but decided to give it a try. I've had this unit for several months now, and love it! I have it connected to my Klipsch Synergy speakers, and the sound is great.

The amplifier is a fine product when living in an apartment. The unit is small yet puts out the right amount of power to run my Polk audio speakers. The sound quality at low volumes is second to none. Crisp highs with just enough lows as to not disturb the neighbors. Although the speakers have a lot to do with the sound, I believe the amp running them has a lot to do with the sound quality. And that is what this amplifier brings, quality.

I bought this AV receiver to replace a Pioneer Elite that was dropping signal. I found a review online at cnet that had this as number 3 for the best AV receivers that you can get for your money. I didn't need anything like phone connectivity and streaming apps, just something to hook up my hdmi devices to my TV. Setup was simple. It did have a tutorial to teach you how to hook it up but I bypassed most of that since I had it already connected up. It's about half the size of a standard AV unit, so it would fit the bill if you are pressed for space or do want a big beast of a box staring back at you. It runs cool. The entertainment center bay it sits in doesn't get above 81 degrees. Plenty of clean volume for a small or medium size room. Surround was good, but I had to turn off some of the advanced surround options because I felt the surround was over presented. The remote has all the needed buttons, not over cluttered, however I use my harmony remote. The mic to setup the surround does a decent job from what I could tell. The face of the unit is not cluttered with unnecessary buttons. And the display screen displays needed info, no fluff. For me it fits the bill flawlessly, so 5 stars here.

Attractive low profile. Sound is excellent. Connected to MartinLogan Floor standing speakers and center channel. As they broke in along with the receiver the sound got better, clearer, fuller. Doesn't have a lot of fancy features but will outperform more expensive receivers. Discrete amp, that's a plus. The Audyssey calibration is a must to maximize the listening experience. Can connect TV, PC and Xbox, etc.. Runs cool. Haven't gotten around to adding a sub but will eventually. Glad I bought this.

Purchased this to replace a 15 year old receiver and I a very happy with it. We had no need for anything but HDMI inputs so this has been perfect. The sound is great and full sounding. We are very happy with it and it works great with a every other item we have. I was concerned that it may not be powerful enough for our system but it has more than enough juice to power paradigm in walls. Our separate subs are self powered so the place just rocks. The wife yells at me to turn movies down so it is powerfull enough.
