If you are a Downton Abby fan like me this season will not disappoint. Anna and Mr. Bates continue on with the drama from last seasons horrible events that will not leave these two to move forward. And of course "poor Edith" continues on trying to keep the secret of her daughter....honestly though I absolutely hate the way she treats the woman who 'adopted' and loves her daughter. I understand how Edith must feel, but she is just totally selfish with the way she handles the people who tried to help her the most in this situation. I found the series finale wonderful after being exhausted by these two storylines. There is an impending marriage that I am so looking forward to seeing next season. I enjoyed being able to power watch this season and not miss the shows (Walking Dead) that are on at the same time. Another great season to add to my collection.

Excellent dramatic series of a British family starting before WW I but not just any family. They live in a castle & are rich & powerful. The best thing about this series is that the viewer gets to watch the interaction between Lord, Lady & servant staff sort of like "Upstairs Downstairs" and there is just as much drama downstairs as is upstairs.
Great cast, direction, writing. Actress Maggie Smith has all of the best lines & words of advice. Recommended to all.

There's no letdown in the 5th season of Downton Abbey from the previous four. I greatly enjoyed the story of the titled Crawley family and those who served them as they sailed through the period of the colorful Roaring 20s. There were some surprises in the issues introduced for the times--the rise of the Labor government, interfaith marriage, advent of radio outreach, Russian emigres, etc. Great entertainment with history lessons to boot!

As a continuing story it keeps your interest and wonderment of what could happen next. Everything about this series is perfect...the clothes, the cars, the housing all reflect a by gone age. Most importantly, the thinking of the changing times is so relevant . I only wish they would do series of this period all around the world ie Russia, USA etc.

AMAZING!!! Series 5 does not disappoint! If you've been a fan of the show to this point, you'll love this series and all the new plot twists. Honestly, better than Series 4 (which was good in the first few episodes post-Matthew, but kind of lagged toward the end). Every episode of this series is better than the one previous, you'll be watching and crying and squealing with glee until the very last moment of the Christmas episode!

Juggling the story lines of over a dozen characters is what makes the continuing saga of Downtown Abbey an enjoyable journey, although of the past, time wise, it is applicable even in todays modern society. Their lives seem as real in context even though they are staged almost a century in the past. Another enjoyable, watchable season!

Take me back to the Edwardian era of life. The stately manners, the household staff, the days of elegance and grace. A peek into the life of the nobility and rich and where everyone fit into the social strata - the household staff and the family.
It is worth watching and enjoying. It is good ole fashion entertainment which is presented well. You will not regret watching.

I've been hooked on Downton Abbey ever since it aired. I started collecting the DVD sets so I had to have this one, too. Now that the series is ending after Season 6, I'll have to buy that season, too, to complete my set. It's fun to rewatch them from time to time. I love Call the Midwife, Bletchley Circle and Foyle's War, too!

This story is that of an English family and all its associated staff during the early years of the 20th Century. This series (5) continues through the era of the 1920's and explores the impacts and influences of those times on the traditions of the past. The characters are genuine. The story is engrossing. Highly recommended.

Well, I didn't know that Downton Abbey: Season 5 also has a very different label comparing to the PBS Masterpiece version as well. That was also incredible.

Love Downton Abby. Have watched all five seasons more than once. The history, the costumes, antique cars And architecture are wonderful. The richness of the story lines of the characters upstairs and downstsirs is great. Haven't enjoyed a show so much in years. Much recommended if you have time for the detail.

HD PBS is fine if you can accept the constant PBS Icon on your TV and the lower resolution than what the Blu-ray discs offer. If you are just starting watching Downton Abbey do start with Season 1 on Blu-ray. Better yet buy seasons 1 thru 4 on Blu-ray. Best Buy has it and probably at a great price.

Great stories, writing, acting, clothing, scenery, etc. What's not to like?
Maggie Smith blows me away. The woman is just awesome !
She is worth the price of admission alone. P.S. If you have not watched the previous seasons, do so in order. You will enjoy it more and understand what is going on.

Excellent story line, perfect actors for their chosen characters. Life as it was in 1920. Start with season one to appreciate this extremely entertaining thought provoking story. This castle still exists today and can be toured.

This season of Downton, like all seasons, provided lots of change and unique challenges for each character. There were moments this season where I found myself almost liking Edith. Who'd have thought?! I wish the wait between seasons wasn't so long but at least the blu-ray is available to watch and re-watch!
As for the actual features on the blu-ray, I do wish there were more of them. I'm a sucker for bloopers and I wish some had been included on this. One of the features focuses on day 100 of shooting and that one was fun to watch because you get to see a whole 'nother side of Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan)!

Downton Abbey Series is a story about the families in England who are the upper class. The people who play the characters were so well chosen are so gifted. The man who wrote this series has truly produced a masterpiece to view. I just loved every minute of it and will watch it again.

Although I personally preferred the first 4 series above this one, it is still a compelling series. Some plot lines seemed to hint of future circumstances in series six. The leaving and coming of new characters seem to be paving the way for new conflicts facing this family come WWII. Julian Fellowes has taken in between years and made the best of them without drowning the viewer in politics, which truthfully, could have enriched the plot lines. That being said, this is THE only period drama available to starving Americans yearning for this standard of writing and acting on this side of the pond.

Downton Abby is a favorite and addictive. Having the DVD means that I can watch it when it is convenient for me and not on the t.v. schedule. As there is about a 10 month wait till the next season, I can watch DA from the beginning and help with the withdrawal pains. Granny rocks!
