First and foremost, Metal Gear Survive is NOT a Metal Gear Solid game, in the sense that Metal Gear Rising is NOT a Metal Gear Solid game.
I am having fun with it. I honestly had no interest until the second beta, played with a couple of friends, and had a good time. Best Buy made the purchase a bit easier (20% off and a $10 gift card) and honestly... It is mostly what I've been playing the past two weeks.
The gameplay loop scratches the itch I was looking for after coming down from a high playing The Division. The survival mechanics are a bit difficult to combat at first, but it does indeed get easier as you progress. I'm maybe ten missions in at around 26 hours, with maybe 6 of those in co-op.
One of the big factors that draws me back is The Dust. It is definitely tense and decisions seem to have heft when you're starting out (and carrying on. I still am worried when I transport into The Dust.) I feel like the sound design is restrained enough to really increase the sense of dread when sneaking around. Plus, having Ito Masahiro in the credits for creature design is a huge sell for me (Silent Hill is one of my favorite series, and I am very bitter about the decisions made around the series.) As to how that unfolds, I am unsure. I've only seen a few different enemy types, and something else.
No, the game is not exceptional. Yes, I despise Konami for the choices they've made over the past two to three years. Would this be better without the Metal Gear name? It would help to alleviate the idea that this is truly a Metal Gear Solid game. You could even use the same plot points, I would anticipate, without the name. But I am having fun. It's not going to make it onto any "best-of" lists this year, and that is fine. Am I defending a perfectly mediocre title? I guess, but in the end, I'm finding myself enjoying it and I feel that there is such a stigma around this title that it was doomed from the moment it was announced.

Good-natured mgs but is not nearly is good as past games. But the multi-player is creative, decent campaign, 30 with gamers club and running on one or best game engines of this generation. Good buy

It's a game you have to try. I'm 6-7 hrs into it. And still can't decide if I like it. Survival horror, meets lost planet, meets Minecraft. Ends up with this. There are so many awesome things in this game. You find it. Think you have it. Then Die and have to remember where you were and go get it back. That's been my experience with this game. It's somewhat infuriating to die when you thought you had full health (if you play the game, that will make so much more sense) story wise it is not bad, go into it as a new franchise with no expectations

This game requires you to be online at all times, so if you don't have internet it's not for you. It's called metal gear but it's nothing like the others and not affiliated, they just wanted to use the metal gear name to sell copies. It's a zombie survival/ base building game but not really that fun. Get metal gear solid 5 instead it's easy dinner and don't need internet connection.

Good graphics. Managing Hunger and Thirst is a hassle. Not much variety in attacks. Not very fun.

So, this game is fun to play, good story, single player is fun, but online co-op is where it's at. This isn't really a metal gear game per se, but its a good entry to the series. You'll need quite a bit of patience with this game 7/10

This is the next series into the metal gear saga and i have to say is that this game is so so ok. It's made more towards zombie fans and for the people that like surviving type of games. I had some fun with it

If you ignore the whole Kojima/Konami business and pretend the metal gear is in the name, this is not a bad game. The gameplay is fun, the survival aspect is fun. The thirst/hunger gauges drop way too fast, so it can make the beginning of the game a bit difficult. The boss fights are pretty fun and the story isn’t too bad.

Not what I was hoping for but it works. You’re going to have to invest some time in it to have any fun. Not something you can just jump into. If you’re not going to dedicate some hours you may want to pass on this one.

It is a good game for someone who wants to THINK about every move they make. Felt like I was back in the military. Now, I prefer to just go in and shoot stuff up.
Amazing graphics and will definitely make you think. I guess you will eventually get to blow something up or shoot something.

I have always been a big fan of the Metal Gear video game franchise but it really bothers me that this new release requires internet connection to play. I just want to put the disk in and play...... Getting really sick of these games that require internet connection to play. The game was returned.

I am a huge Metal Gear fan and knowing that Kojima was not handling this one worried me. I have not been playing it too long but I can tell you I am very surprised.
Building your own base like in MGSV.
Creating weapons, armor, healing items.
Hunting for food, gathering water.
All in the Metal Gear World.
It's unlike any survival game I ever played.
If you are a fan of MG, or survival games, definitely pick this one up.
5 stars!

I only rated Metal Gear survival three stars for the simple fact that it could become a decent game with some updates to fix game play. Not to go into detail and list the endless cons of the game, I will only state the biggest gripe I have , as I play the devils advocate for konami. The survival game doesn't really start until after the story is completed and it unlocks classes, these classes should have been available at the start of the game. They could introduce "Heroes" like Boss, Solid Snake, Liquid, Ocelot,...etc to come help with bosses, or raids or just unlocks. The game has potential and I mean a lot of it but it is wasted and it is sad because this could have been a win in Konami's favor if they did this correctly. I know there are people who just don't like konami no matter the case, but if you can pick this up in $9.99 bin, do it. I hope Konami keeps at it and gets back on its feet and make the games we grew to love.

A vast majority of reviewers went into this game already deciding to hate it. While the game seems to be the illegitimate child of don't starve and phantom dust; its no where near as bad as people make it out to be. No this isn't a "metal gear game", but Mario Kart isn't really a "Mario" game. Its a spin off, and people don't seem to want to accept this. The survival aspects of it are a bit annoying. Making the early game needlessly difficult while managing thirst and hunger; by the end game things get much easier. The progression loop of horde mode to gain new recipes to play hard hordes is reasonably satisfying. Unfortunately the annoying hunger and thirst mechanics persist even in online. I'd say its a fun buy for $20

The game gets a lot of hate for being a post-Kojima Metal Gear Solid, but once you get passed the hurdle of the first hour or two, the game opens up and really starts getting fun. The co-op missions are really exciting too.
