Too Buggy.. not what i expected for the price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop 3 months ago. Looking for a lightweight laptop to work and game. Wanted a touchscreen (for work/ presentation use) and a 1060 for gaming. Sold my Alienware r3 OLED which I had for 6 months. The Good... Looks great. For such a slim package... 1060 / tablet mode / screen / power / battery this laptop looked like a winner. After about 1 month, the bugs began. When gaming, battery depletes when charging. The screen would not detach sometimes. Then the laptop would freeze here and there. Then the 1060 would not be found sometimes. I found a lot of work arounds online and after many hours of trial and error... and learning the hard reset.. can get the laptop issues mostly resolved. Read many posts online and it seems like a software glitch on the updates. But why is a 2.5K computer having all of these issues.. and the updates are not getting these known issues resolved. I hate having to everyday... treat this thing gingerly.. hoping its not going to get buggy... and then spend 15 minutes resetting it. Not acceptable for a flagship product. I've Lenovo Carbon (1 year) and XPS 15 for 1 year (no problems) and Alienware 13 (no problems) and now this. I wish I can return this thing... going to a Microsoft tech in a couple of days and see what they can do, Very disappointed in Microsoft on having a product with so many unresolved issues.

I ended up returning it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I returned this item after encountering some problems, mostly with the Facebook app. The app crashed several times while uploading pictures. Some of the pics uploaded while others didn’t (in random order) and I had to go back in and try to figure out which ones were missing and do it over again. This happened consistently over a few weeks. The web browser also crashed on me a couple times. I was pretty frustrated and decided to return the item. For the amount this computer costs I didn’t want to deal with issues like that. I ended up with an iPad Pro and an MSI laptop that runs Windows and now I don’t have those problems. If everything had worked the way it was supposed to I probably would have been happy with this laptop.

The laptop I've been waiting for!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the 15” Surface Book 2 on release day and have been using it for a week now. It’s been a while since I have enjoyed using a laptop this much. I work full time and I’m a part time student. I do an extensive amount of writing and light work in Adobe Creative Suite. I require a laptop that’s comfortable, portable, powerful, and dependable. The Surface Book 2 checks all of the boxes for me and then some- it’s powerful, screen is beautiful, and the ergonomics are phenomenal. I have used a variety of laptops over the last two years. They were all nice in different ways, but each forced me to make a tradeoff. For instance, ThinkPads have nice keyboards, but typically have dim/low resolution screens. The 15” Dell XPS has a beautiful 4K screen but its keyboard had tiny keys with minimal travel. Battery life on the XPS was also challenging and the vents on the bottom were easily blocked when using on my lap. The latest 15” MacBook Pro is nice, and I was willing to deal with the dongle issues, but the keyboard had even less travel than the XPS and it just wasn’t comfortable to use for long periods of time. At one point I even tried the original 13” Surface Book (i5 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD w/ dGPU). I wanted so badly to like it, but the 13” screen just wasn’t enough to make it my daily driver. It also seemed a bit anemic power-wise and would get hot easily resulting in lots of noisy fan action. The 15” screen on the Surface Book 2 is bright and beautiful. I prefer the 3:2 aspect ratio to laptops with widescreen displays. It’s perfect for working on multiple windows simultaneously. It’s reminiscent of the way laptop screens used to be before everyone switched to widescreen in the early-to-mid-2000s. The extra screen real estate of the 15” screen is worth the money. I was worried it would be too bulky or unwieldy, but it isn’t. The keyboard is impeccable, and the glass trackpad is probably the best you’ll find on a Windows laptop. I’ve been a fan of Microsoft’s ergonomics dating back to the Windows 95 era when Microsoft introduced the IntelliMouse and Natural Keyboard. No vent holes on the bottom of the keyboard base make it incredibly “lapable” and the screen wobble has been reduced from the previous generation. My only criticism is that coil whine is apparent on occasion, particularly when setting performance to “best.” It can be reduced by setting to “recommended.” Also, would have also been nice of Microsoft included the Surface Pen and/or started the base configuration at 512 GB SSD. But neither of these are deal breakers for me.

Too many issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I researched this same unit and read many reviews, so I gave it a try and was disappointed with the many issues it had....wouldn't detach the screen, received overheat icon randomly, couldn't use the Nvidia card for my art software when detached....the system didn't even SEE it had the Nvidia card, no keyboard shortcuts once detached, consumed more power than that the charger couldn't keep up with....a plethora of issues. Returned it.

Some very bad QC issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure if the issue is with Microsoft or the stocks in best buy but the first laptop I got would not power on at all. Went to the store and exchanged. After a few days, I found that the spacebar was weirdly misaligned. Really wanted to love this laptop, it's amazingly built but until Microsoft figures out the QC issues I won't be buying yet.

Good laptop but...
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After owning this for almost two years there is a glaring issue I can't ignore anymore. The usb-c port on this computer constantly stops working. At first I thought it was the hub I was using but it's the port. Every time I connect a hard drive to it, the port stops functioning and causes a Cascade issue where even the wifi fails to work. For the price you'd expect much better from this computer. I will not be buying a Microsoft surface device again.

Lied to
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sales staff at the local Best Buy told me everything that I wanted to hear just so they could get a sale. After using it for a couple of weeks and doing some research I figured out that many of those things they said were lies. After reading accounts of cracked screens from overheating, I wanted to purchase some kind of warranty or protection, but it was never offered and now it is too late. Terrible service.

Poor Knowledge of Sale Associate
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this Surface Book 2 as an Open Box in satisfactory condition, no big deal. The sales guys two of them said, I had 14 days to return but had a one year warranty with Microsoft. I called Microsoft and they told me I will not be able to have the 1 year manufacture warranty because I purchased this on an open open. Therefore, they mentioned it's not considered under Microsoft's 1 year. Here's the interesting fact, Microsoft told me the devices' 1 year warranty was up on February of 2018. I bought this open box on October 2020. How in the world was someone able to turn this item then?
