I bought the Microsoft - Surface Book 2-in-1 13.5 Touch-screen Laptop - Intel Core I5 - 8gb Memory - 256gb Solid State Drive just after Christmas while it was still on sale. This is hands down my favorite computer. The ability to quickly and effortlessly remove the screen and switch to tablet mode comes in handy. The processing power is great for multitasking between multiple programs, as well as playing games. The screen is responsive and the pen is a nice added touch. The Microsoft Surface Book is a must have when it comes to mobile computing!

what I like most about this laptop/tablet is the ability to open forms and fill out with the pen, including signatures. The surface recognizes your palm and doesn't interfere with the writing. I wish it had a better battery life and was a bit lighter.

Very nice machine. Be aware that if u use a file on usb u cannot separate the screen from the keyboard. U can save the file to the hard drive or one drive to resolve this. Not a big deal. You can use the pen on access databases and other software. Nice for some things. This machine is pretty darn cool.

I have been using the Surface Book for over a month now and I really like it. It is fast and light. Sometimes I am working in small areas like server rooms and there is no problem

Thought I was going to Best Buy to purchase a Surface Pro 4. I almost did, but for the price of the Book it made much more sense. I am using it with Manga Studio, and the slightly larger screen and the resolution is beyond perfect. I have almost nothing loaded except my copy of Office and Manga. I carry it everywhere in larger handbag, hobo style. The weight is so much lighter than a traditional PC or Mac. Highly recommend this, love the zoom feature. Sensation like true watercolor, chalk, or pencil/charcoal drawing on paper. Haven't gotten the hang of the oils yet. Really if you are on the fence about he Book, try it, you might just love it.

This is high quality and fast laptop, that I purchased for my daughter (freshman engineering student). Fast and powerful, and includes dedicated graphics needed for engineering school software and will run solid works. Only complaint would be costs. There are lower cost models, but not recommended to utilize commodity market laptops over higher quality laptops.

Once again I am not disappointed in a Microsoft (Hardware) product! I was an early adopter of the surface book - and I need to admit the start was a bit shaky. Sporadic/non-existent battery life, tons of updates, bugs galore...my confidence was shaken a bit in the decision. I upgraded from the SP3 which was another shaky purchase at first but both products, over time, have blew me away. I wish I had this product in college for note taking; I wish I could us it for work because it's a productivity "work-horse." I'm not even tapping the potential of this machine and it's extodinary. I use it for documents, ROM Emulation, slight gaming, web, and personal projects. Pros: Battery life (minimum) 4 hours with intense gaming, 8 hours (consistently) with light use; taking the "clip board" for writing is great; the dGPU is the kicker for light gaming, Engineering-type activities and play-time; form factor is great - anything less than this screen size for a laptop is ridiculous and the same for anything bigger for the tablet portion. Cons: slim form factor (bottom) + USB-A 3.0 ports = bent flash drive (need to prop computer up on book so no bendy, USB-C would be great on the next iteration); engineering behind "muscle lock" concerns me - it allows for a lot of wiggling and insecurities; Price is extremely high - but it's a high quality product. Recommendations: Buy if the price suits you, you won't have to buy another computer for the next 2-3 years (tech-cycle), next model hopefully be similar with USB-C ports and better locking mechanism.

The machine has worked perfectly since purchase and is everything it is advertised to be. It would be nice to have an external DVD player with USB3, but an external DVD player with USB2 is working fine in the mean time.

This is just what I'm looking for features wise, but there are many kinks that still need to be worked out that shouldn't be there when you pay this much money for a lap top. For example the Hello sign-in feature acts up all the time so I have to hard reset the SB all the time

The Microsoft Surface line of products are the finest designed and built Windows 10 laptop / tablet devices that you can buy period. The Lenovo Yoga 910 is a beautiful machine, however, the Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book eclipse it. The very robust design and the amazingly natural Surface Pen make the Microsoft Surface products a joy to behold. Based on your needs the Surface Pro 4 or the Surface Book is the right choice. Take this endorsement from a Apple Macintosh Evangelist!

    Concerned about longevity

I've had this now about 2 years. I replaced my Surface Pro 4 with this (wanted bigger screen for school). I can say overall I'm satisfied. You can find online many things regarding specs and such. I won't bother with those, just with what I see concerns me. 1) the connection for the screen seems to have started becoming weak. When I open or close the screen, it randomly goes into tablet mode as if it were disconnected. This is telling me that the connector is a really major weak point. 2) battery life. Granted I abuse this thing with school and it's being drained fast. There is a way to have Windows 10 give you a battery health report. I have noticed that in less than 2 years, I have lost over 10% of the max battery life and some days it's very noticeable. 3) there are spots on the lip below the mousepad. I feel the magnesium shell, or whatever this metal is, is being worn down and eventually will have rubbed off. 4) Brightness seems to be weird. Sometimes, the system doesn't register a change in ambient lighting and will keep the screen super dim. Don't know if it is Surface Book or Windows 10 related, but a restart is only thing to correct it. 5) touchscreen seems to have difficulty now with arm hair. I can be writing on the screen and then the cursor goes nuts and I'll see lines where my arm hair is. I also believe there is a dead zone to touch along one side of the screen just because of the oddities that occur there. 6) Touchscreen + charging = bad. If the battery is warm from charging, forget screen writing. The heat from the battery causes havoc with the touch interface. Now these might seem like major issues (#1 and 6 I feel are). But don't forget these are 6 issues I see after 2 years of heavy school use. Just so you can see my usage: I write notes directly onto OneNote with a PowerPoint printout, use a 4K TV as external monitor, it stays on more than off, typing random documents, and standard web browsing. Doesn't sound like much, but the OneNote aspect is very resource intensive (Task Manager shows the system maxing out often).

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. Drivers still need upgrading autocad only works without hardware acceleration and sometimes the notebook hangs when waking from sleep. Microsoft is constantly releasing updates and I expect they will sort these things out.

Overall, the SB 1 is a game changer and it's form factor beautiful. However, a couple of issues made me give it a 3 out of a 5. First, I did bring it back and return/exchange because of an issue with the detachable clipboard ("hardware failure"). My second SB 1 is doing fine except for the black scree = "display error". This "display error..." that makes the screen/browser go black is completely annoying, frustrating, and making me unproductive. I think that without these issues, i would have given it at least 4 or 5 stars. Overall, its performance has been good and looking forward to SB 2 as MS fixes some of the issues, problems, etc. As road warrior, this is a great start at a combination of functionality, performance, and beauty.

My fiancée's old XPS 14z was starting to struggle and it was time to upgrade. She always had to carry her Intuos with her and it was just cumbersome. She played with this at the store... well the Surface Studio and instantly fell in love with the built-in Surface Pen. She moved to the Surface Book and she liked the versatility of tablet mode and docking the screen in reverse. So we bough it, and she has loved every minute of it.
