A Windows computer the size of a tablet

I bought the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 with 128g ram and runs Windows 8.1 as a gift for my wife who travels frequently. We have tried various operating systems on cell phones and tablets before this. We always return to devices that can use the Windows operating system because there are more programs and applications that can be used in business, entertainment, hobbies, music, games and creativity than any other operating system.
THIS IS NOT A TABLET !!! IT IS A FULL POWERED WINDOWS COMPUTER THAT HAPPENS TO BE THE SIZE OF A TABLET !!!
This device makes the Apple products look like TOYS !!!!
Like every electronics item that is new on the market, it is a little expensive. It took about 8 months for me to evaluate this and decide if I really wanted to buy in this price range. I am glad I did.
The only advice I can offer is to seriously consider this item as a new computer AND buy one that has the most RAM and storage that you can afford.
It took me 15 minutes to have this computer up and running, connected on my network with networked printing. Then, 5 minutes later, doing a live video with the grandkids which was FLAWLESS!!! Within an hour I was convinced that I made the right decision.
The built in kickstand has three positions which allow it to be used upright without holding it while it is on your lap, a table or being carried in your hand. The USB 3 port can be daisy chained using a USB Hub to add more ports. I can connect any external USB device to this computer. It runs the Microsoft .net framework, which means you can run some of your favorite programs from previous versions of Windows.
Then there is the Microsoft Office Suite. If you do anything with business I need not say more except that the new Office is set up for full touch. You can write notes on the fly with the included touch pen and incorporate them into your spreadsheets and applications.
REMEMBER:
...you get what you pay for and this is worth the price!!!!

Better than the iPad as it lets you do and accomplish more. Wish they make a bigger screen and lighter in weight is what is missing. Incredibly fast and powerful. It is a beautiful machine with all it's belt and whistles. Wish it had come out earlier. If you have an account already with hotmail in another pc, it will recognize the email and bring all your things over when setting it up in less than a minute. Not bad! Really loud speakers, at least better than my iPad. You can increase the disk size anytime by adding a mini SD card. Even faster boot than my mac book pro. This is a way to come back for Microsoft, just make it lighter and offer a bigger size if wanted for the future.

I've had this tablet for a month now and I love it. Windows 8 is a very intuitive OS when used on a tablet, so it's very quick to learn. I love the USB port because I bring pictures directly from my camera with no additional adapters to buy. I'm also able to run some of my favorite programs, like the Glo Bible software on here. I've found that it has great battery life as well. I do wish the price was lower, but overall I am extremely happy with it.

Very good tablet/computer hybrid

Not a tablet person prior; like versatility, features of computer. Surface pro as a hybrid suggested/recommended. A bit pricey for just a casual consideration...but I think well worth it as a versatile tool to compliment computer and on-line accessibility. Windows 8; touch screen; very fast; excellent graphics; USB port innovative. Too fragile for comparatively rough handlers; better for the more mature and/or thoughtful user. Don't think Skydrive performs as advertised; at least I haven't figured out how to get it to perform so; but that's not a computer issue itself. All in all, I love it! I recommend it as an adjunct, but not necessarily as a primary tool.

The Surface Pro 2 is a nice improvement in battery life and performance over the original version. I'm a consultant and this is the perfect device for using at the office with a USB 3.0 dock and external monitor, mouse and keyboard and then just unplugging the tablet and hitting the road.

Love the portability, battery life is better than a laptop. Thought I'd regret not getting the 256GB model, until I decided to host my own personal cloud for data storage. As an IT professional for many years, change is constant and expected. Each operating system is built to provide ease of use, great for people who don't want to be bothered with tech details. Most techies don't like W8 -- "where did they put x?" Windows 8.1 is better. Easier to find the tools we need maintain performance levels. Reason I purchased a Surface? Same reason why people choose Apple. Hardware/OS both owned by same company. Sounds like a perfect partnership. We'll see.

My only real complaint has nothing to do with the actual device, but with a lack of knowledge on Windows 8. The interface is quite different than previous versions of Windows and I have not figured it out yet. Getting between applications and the home screen is still a little perplexing, but I'll figure it out. The tablet itself is awesome - I love the screen resolution, applications load and run quickly, surfing the web is painless. I bought the larger storage model and installed an SD card, so HD space is not an issue. Memory appears to be appropriate and sufficient.

I am pleasant surprised with the surface. Full computer functionality in tablet format. I am even running a full version of Itunes to update my wife's new Ipad air :-)
The surface pro is not as light as the ipad (not even close) but it is refreshing to have a usb port, micro sd slot amoung so many other features that apple has been resisting for years.

I was mostly looking for something to replace my old laptop. It's great, I can type notes easily, and the touch screen is really convenient. Sometimes when I open apps, it'll switch to the previous screen even though I'm not touching the screen and I'm not sure why. They keyboard is easy to attach and lightweight. It was a little bit pricey for a laptop or tablet, but it works really well and I've enjoyed using it!

I love the ability to stand the Surface at different angles. It is a little bit heavier than some other tablets, but is still very easy to carry around. The Surface Pro is super fast with great resolution. I bought the keyboard for times when I need to intense typing and still the Surface is very transportable. It is now my primary computer!

I was quite impressed with the speed of this tablet. Really no negatives besides the price, which Microsoft sets anyway. Best Buy has no control over that. You won't be disappointed!

I tried for over a year to make my iPad work for business. I present for a living and also need access to internal company programs and could not make anything work reliably to fit my needs. I was admittedly scared because I was so in love with the iPad as a media delivery device but after more than a month with the Surface Pro 2 I would never go back. If you need a small portable business presentation machine that can also do work this is for you. Now if Microsoft would just make the dock available I might be able to turn this into my everyday machine as well.

I've always preferred lightweight laptops for business travel purposes. Finally a tablet that has MS Office and you don't have to pull it out through airport security! It has everything you need in such a compact size. Whether you use the cloud for storage or just use a USB stick, it is a fabulous and powerful product. YES!

I got this with the Type Cover 2, and what a wonderful productivity tool in a small, light package. This is actually my wife's Surface; I got one with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I use mine for spreadsheet, database, and development work, so I spend a lot of time in the Desktop environment. I had to break down and get an external monitor for those uses, and that combination replaces my old desktop AND my old laptop.
It's great to be able to pick this up and go to a meeting with clients and have everything I need.
If your needs are light you can probably get away with the 64GB unit and use SkyDrive and Microsoft's web Office tools

A Great Option for a Windows-based Tablet

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 provides a full blown Windows computer system to those looking for an ultra-portable tablet form factor. Those looking for light weight mobile OS driven tablets for basic web surfing and email should look at other options, but if you're looking for a great laptop alternative this should be seriously considered. The Surface Pro 2 has a great design - it's solid construction that is hefty but not heavy and the new duel-angle kickstand is a great addition. The device has many flavors for those needing more RAM or hard drive space and provides a USB and mini-SD slot for expandability.
The accessory list is quite large for a tablet. The touch type keyboard is responsive and snaps into place for easy, duel hatting as the cover. A docking station is available if you need Ethernet connection and additional ports. The mini-display port option allows for multiple monitor connection, something you don't see from many tablets.
Overall it's a great device, I think the biggest hurdle is the learning curve for those not familiar with Windows 8.
