It seems like the big question right now is, "Do I get the Surface Pro 4 or the Surface Book?" I'll explain why I chose the Surface Pro 4, but first, a quick about me. I am a college student majoring in EECS and I commute 4 hours a day by bus so having a light backpack is important to me. The S.Book is almost two times heavier than the SP4. It packs much more computing power than the SP4, but as an EECS major, I don't need the extra power that the S.Book has. I don't plan to play any intensive games or render/animate things so the SP4 fits my needs better. The S.Book also has a $400 higher price tag ($270 if you get the Type Cover for the SP4) that I'm not willing to pay for unneeded performance. I haven't tried the S.Book's keyboard, but the SP4's keyboard feels great to type on and other reviewers have said both keyboards are amazing. Reading textbooks or other PDF's feels much more natural with the SP4's tablet form. The S.Book without the keyboard only has a battery life of 3 hours, and although it can be used with the keyboard 'wrapped' around the back, I think that it'll only be a hassle for me to deal with. I'd rather not deal with having to detach the S.Book every time I want to use it in tablet mode. If you plan to render/animate things you should probably consider going with the Surface Book. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Surface Pro 4 for doing everyday/light to medium tasks. Now onto the actual Surface Pro 4 Review. I love the SP4. In the past year, I've owned an iPad Air, MacBook Pro, and the Razer Blade 2015. The SP4 fits my needs the best by far. The SP4 replaces both my textbooks and notebooks. For me, this is a big deal because I no longer have to carry around my notebooks, textbooks, and supplemental writing materials (highlighters, etc). The Surface Pen tips can be replaced with other pen tips to change the writing "feedback" feeling but the stock pen tip feels great. OneNote keeps all my notes organized and being able to access them from any device is incredibly convenient. Using the Surface Pen for writing on textbooks and PDF's is also very useful. I've been getting ~7-9 hours of battery life on the SP4 which is more than enough to get me through a school day. The screen is not too small like the iPad, neither is it bulky like a laptop. The screen resolution is high and text/videos are crisp and easy to read/watch. The magnet on the left side of the SP4 is surprising strong and holds the Surface Pen well. The magnet on the right side is significantly weaker (maybe because all the I/O ports are on this side) but it can hold the pen well. The kickstand works perfectly and stays in the position I set it to. The SP4 Type Cover feels great and protects your screen when you aren't using it. Gaming shouldn't be the main reason you buy the SP4, but it could run some games if you decide to do so. I did try running StarCraft II and Heroes of the Storm and the SP4 handled it pretty well. I wouldn't even bother trying to run more demanding games such as GTAV on the SP4. That being said, the gaming experience was rather unpleasant. You should consider the Surface Book if you plan to game on-the-go frequently. Software-wise, I don't have much to comment on. It looks and performs exactly like Windows 10 should on a normal desktop or laptop. I've never used the Microsoft Store and don't intend to so I don't know much about the apps that are available on the SP4. The only con I found with this device is the fact that it only has a single USB port. It's inconvenient when I'm using the SP4 with a mouse and I need to use my flash drive. I haven't had any overheating issues and I can't find any issues with the build quality. In closing, I don't think anyone else offers the performance and quality that the Surface Pro 4 has in the same lightweight and thin chassis. It is incredibly versatile and it has replaced many heavy and cumbersome objects in my bag.

I bought one of the surface pro 4 for each of my daughter's for Christmas in 2016. One of the units had battery problems since the beginning and had to keep plugged in most of the time. The surface never left my daughter's desk, very little to no memory used probably only used 20 to 30 hours for Netflix and some homework. It did not have one scratch or dent or ding never had a spill. It was virtually brand new. One day about 16 months in, of course after the warranty has expired, it just freezes and will not do anything. Apparently the motherboard went out. Of course Microsoft offers no help other than the option to give them $500 and they will give you a refurbished one. Also trying to find someone to work on the surface due to its delicate screen nature and everything being held by adhesive is an adventure in itself. For the premium price Microsoft charges to be on a par level with Apple you would think they would back up their products with better than a one year warranty. I will never buy another one again and I do not like apple but it looks like MacBook is the way I'm headed now.

I bought this as more of a laptop than anything else since my personal laptop is about 7 years old... it was just time to upgrade. When the Surface Pro's came out a few years ago I was interested, but didn't want to run in to some potential problems with the newness of the system. I don't think there were any issues originally when they first came out, but I can definitely say there aren't any issues with this model at all. This specific Surface Pro is fantastic. The speed is great, the batter life is great, the monitor clarity and color is fantastic, and the easy of moving this thing is off the chart. It blows away any personal laptop out there. I even use this for work when I need to. I had our IT person download the cloud to it in case I needed to work from home and it works flawlessly. I don't even bother taking my work laptop home any more. This thing is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a personal laptop or even a lower/medium end laptop. I'm not too techy so I can't speak on this compared to a high end laptops, but I would definitively put this surface pro up against anything. I love it and definitely recommend it.

Upgraded from first gen surface pro 128gb to the surface pro 4. The device is thinner and lighter weight. Screen is wider with buttons on top instead of the sides. I like the convenience of these surfaces with its own built flap stand. The microsd port still exists behind the flap. I’m glad that it still has at least one USB port, but wish there were 2. I prefer the touch cover for the surface pro 4 compared to the first gen touch covers. Being able to sense the keys and clicks makes it much easier/quicker to type. Never found the need for the stylus, but nifty for graphic designing. The best tablet I’ve used and perfect for my needs. I disliked the surface RT and couldn’t work with tablets that are app based only. Needed to install software and compatible with chrome. I would recommend this device.

Bought this at a clearance price, so my review is based on the price I paid and what I got for that price. I got rid of my Dell XPS 13 (9350) laptop and bought this laptop/tablet to do basic web browsing and basic tasks such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other simple tasks. For my needs, it’s fast enough and it’s very portable. My biggest gripe is the battery life. It lasts me about 2-3 hours on battery power and I’m used to my XPS lasting about 6-7 hours, so it’s a dramatic downgrade in terms of battery life. As long as your expectations are set around 2-3 hours, this is a great little laptop/tablet. I use this more as a laptop with the keyboard attached since I use my iPad for my tablet needs.

I purchased this laptop primarily because I'm a college student. I just received the 2 n 1 laptop today and I may be returning it already. it is having issues staying connected to a Wi-Fi network stating marvell avastar wireless ac network controller issue hardware. when I went to google this problem many threads arised. it seems to be a problem with the windows 10 update? this is completely crazy. especially for what I paid for the device. I already knew there would be a ton of updates when I researched about the pc before buying. but the laptop tends to drag and run slow with a 30 second lag to start up. I love the compact size of this laptop. I would greatly appreciate if someone would reach out to me regarding this issue.

Purchased this for work, play, and school. Had issues of screen freezing from almost the moment I turned it on. It was always updating, then I couldn't get it to turn back on with out resetting it. After 5 days it stopped updating long enough for me to install that security that came with as a bonus. Then the craziness returned but worse with the updating, and the screen freezing, so badly that when I decided to return it, I could not get in to erase all my personal Information. customer service wanted to make me a ticket, and they would fix it. Absolutely not. I was so over the attraction, and decision to purchase this computer. They refunded my money. I had read reviews that had these issues listed but I bought anyway. Think Twice.

Got this to handle simple applications and works amazingly well. Nothing you want to use for serious computing but handles normal applications I use for work well. It is light and easy to carry around. Makes it great to do a quick presentation while walking and showing someone something. I was between this and the Macbook. I don't like the new Macbook keyboard due to a short travel in the keys. The keyboard here has a very satisfying feel when pressing the keys. The ability to use it as a laptop and tablet and be able to switch between both is really nice.

I had to upgrade from my Surface Pro 3. Got it stolen in Oakland. Best Buy had THE BEST price on it. Combo 128G Surface Pro 4, i5, 6th gen + keyboard for $749!!! I’m almost happy my SP3 was stolen. My new Surface Pro 4 is light years better than my last one. Noticeably faster processing. Digital pen is lots more reactive. SP4 keyboard is way better than SP3 keyboard. (Not very noticeable just typing in store. It really became apparent after owing SP4 for a couple of weeks). Overall I really love my new Surface Pro 4.

My college class required students to have a windows computer so I went out and bought a surface pro. Well, also bc my other tablet and pc was broken so it was a good timing. And this tablet in my opinion works better than mac computers since I can use access and excel, touch the screen, and etc. the only thing I am having trouble with is the touchpad and the keyboard. It does not let me click just by tapping or how the Ctrl key is so far away which really bothers me... but I guess I should just get used to it.

The Surface Pro 4 has been a complete game changer for me personally. I work within a school system, and this device gives me great flexibility within my classroom, and also tends to draw in student attention. The battery life is also a huge advantage, as the Surface tends to last whether being used frequently or scarcely. The many different features that can be added on is just icing on the cake. Overall, I couldn't be any happier with my purchase. If you desire flexibility and dependability, this is for you.

I struggled with whether or not to keep my unit. I have an ASUS Q304 that I absolutely love! However, the thing that made me keep my SP4 is the ability to have windows in a compact form and when traveling through airport security, I don't have to remove this from my bag because it is a tablet. Unit initially froze on me but I think an update got stuck. No problems since. Battery life is not as good as I would like, but it's not an apple product/tablet...in which battery life is great.

I purchased the surface pro4 thinking that its the best of all windows tablets. But I couldn't enjoy it much as it went into bootloop juat after 3 months of mininal use. Its my 3rd costly laptop from best buy and all of them has gone bad as soon as BestBuy's warranty/responsibility is over. In fact all the products from BestBuy has been of extremely inferior quality than what my friends and relatives has bought from other vendors.

Although the computer is convenient with the pen and the compact size, it does me no good if it is not working. The pen stopped working, then I lost internet access. Eventually it let me complete an update, and it started working again, but I don't know if the upgrade really fixed the problem. Make sure you purchase the additional insurance because this product is not reliable.

My need for a light and powerful mobile device was solved with this little gem! The quick login ability is nice when you need to quickly access documents or take some quick notes. I was a bit worried about the kickstand but have grown to like it, especially for sketching and artwork. Powerful enough to run some development tools and still kick out some tunes. Considering buying another for use by our Computer Science college student.

Bought surface pro 4 less than 6 months ago. First day it did not want to boot and they replaced immediately. Now it completely crashed. I paid extra for more memory/better processor and all for none. I've always been an Apple user and wanted to give this a try, biggest mistake of my life. Beware with the constant updates that probably are the reason the ram mess up and cause all the issues. I will be switching back to IPad Pro

Deciding between a traditional laptop and a professional tablet was pretty tough but I am glad I decided in favor of the later. Having used my Surface Pro 4 for a few days now, I can confidently say it is one of the best tech investments I have made in the last 5 years. It is lightweight and compact but scales up to do everything a laptop can do as well. The price was too good too when I picked this one up.

Microsoft SharePoint disaster. Purchased for my worker to use on the floor and couldn't login at initial setup. GOOGLE it, very common problem with this device. MS wants you to spend 2 days downloading a new MSI image to a laughable USB bootable disk, laughable because you better be factory trained to accomplish this feat. Purchased the Surface Pro 4 bundle with the keyboard - I’m really impressed by the performance. I only have a 128 GB hard drive, so I keep an SD card and flash drive attached for extra capacity. The 2017 pen works great, but sometimes had an issue with the button not always opening OneNote - it seems to be working fine now. Overall, great piece of technology and I’m extremely happy with it.

    1. I am not happy at all with the processing speed for a i5. I have a HP 2-in-1 laptop, which also a i5 processor. But, i thought it is better than surface. 2. key board is having hard touch. For the current day technology i expected more sophisticated touch. 3. because of too many windows update on daily basis, I am unable to enjoy the HD videos. Coz, performance is being effected.
