Hey there,
Thanks for the review! We're glad to see you are enjoying your Surface Pro 6 overall. If you're using the Surface Pro Type Cover, it should have a back light on it, but it might be off. On the F7 key you should see a symbol that looks like a sunrise. If you tap that it should turn on the back light. If you tap it again you can adjust the brightness. You can find more info on that, and what the symbol looks like if you have the back light feature on your Surface Pro Type Cover here: https://aka.ms/AA4rbro
Hope that helps out and thanks again!

The 2018 MS Surface Pro 6 (in the config I bought: Intel Core i5, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd) hosts some pretty impressive components. Does it stack up to expectations and can it be an everyday computer?
The short answer is - yes.
Let's start with what is responsible for the first impression: look & feel. Microsoft has put a lot of effort into making sure the Surface Pro 6 looks and feels high quality in every detail. The matte-black color is simply wonderful (both my geek- and regular- friends were complimenting it) and the whole thing feels sturdy, yet elegant. The thing on the back responsible for keeping the screen up when standing (whatever it's called) feels like it can withstand years of folding and unfolding. While the keyboard is specific and takes a while getting used to (after switching from Logitech's K380 [which I strongly recommend, btw.], at least) and the touchpad can get a bit tricky at times (too easy to "click" and performing a right-click requires you to actually click the very bottom-right corner), but after a few days I got so used to it in combination with the touchscreen I stopped considering a problem... or even annoying.
Regarding performance... this was never supposed to be a gaming machine. Yes, it does host Intel's latest 8th gen Core processor, but there is no discrete graphics card. You can easily play older and less-resource-heavy games, but don't think you'll be running The Witcher 3 or anything similar on it. Again - it wasn't meant for that. However, in other aspects, it holds its ground. Comparing to my 3-year-old Dell Latitude ultrabook (Core i7, 16GB RAM) it actually feels quicker at times! I can only guess it's thanks to the newer processor.
If you really need a portable workhorse - go for the i7 model with 16 GB RAM and 512GB SSD. If you're looking for something relatively light (it's not THAT light) which can serve as a laptop on-the-go, you can easily settle for this model.
Overall.. It's both a good tablet and laptop, and should serve you well - as long as you don't expect to do hardcore gaming on it. The only thing missing in this Surface is the stylus. Microsoft's one retails for around $100, which is very pricey, but also quite useful to get the most out of the Surface, especially in business. If you can get a deal with MS's keyboard and stylus included for roughly 1k - it's a no-brainer. Get it... Like... Now!

I had a surface 3 prior to this, bought it back in 2014. I enjoyed it a lot, but it was slowing down on me, and I could tell it was about to be quickly outpaced by any newer programs/software I might want to run on it. The Surface Pro 6 came along with a great Black Friday sale and I was glad I made the purchase. Much faster, a bit lighter, and looks great. If you enjoy the surface line, you will enjoy this newest model. If you haven't tried it out, and you want an extremely portable but still powerful tablet/laptop, I would say give it a try. My one gripe is the magnet to hold on the 'pen' is not quite strong enough to keep it attached when I put the surface in my backpack and it gets bumped or jostled by a notebook or if I shove my hat or gloves in there or something. Not a huge deal, except that 'pen' isn't super tough, and can easily slide down to the bottom of the pack and risk cracking if by some unlucky accident, a heavy book rested on it or something (I cracked the tip off my old pen when it got caught in the bottom of my backpack, lesson learned). Just a quick warning.
I also bought a microsoft miracast adapter with my surface 6, and can easily 'cast' whatever is on my surface up to my smart TV without worrying about any cords or plugging anything in. Works great with the surface 6, and actually mirrors your desktop, not just certain apps.
Of note, I primarily use mine with the keyboard attached in "laptop" mode. I swing it to "tablet" mode if I am doing a lot of book/article/comic reading and I want it in portrait vs. landscape. I enjoy mine more for the portability and computing power than the fancy 'pen' and note taking features, but when I do use the pen, it works very well.

I bought this for a super good price just before Christmas, and I'm glad I jumped at it. It is ultra portable, yet powerful enough to be used as a desktop replacement. When at home, I often have it connected to my Dell D3100 docking station that has 3 monitors connected, giving me a total of 4 screens including the Surface Pro itself, and it performs perfectly.
I recently did some performance testing between this machine (i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) and a Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) using UserBenchMark, and the Samsung was just barely faster than the Surface Pro. I was extremely surprised to find, however, that when I did a comparison using Handbrake to convert a 4K video to 1080p, the Surface Pro was actually faster due to the Samsung's processor throttling because of heat! This model of Surface Pro doesn't even have a cooling fan!
The one thing I wish this had is a USB C port for charging on the road, but other than that, it has everything I need.

Fast, lightweight, with a sleek design and ultimate portability are how I describe my new Surface Pro 6. The convenience factor is also high with the ability to switch between being a laptop or tablet mode. Touchscreen is great. I’ve had my Surface for over a month now, and love it! I use the Surface Dock to connect it to two external monitors and a wireless keyboard mouse combo. Works great that way!

This is a niche computing product, and you have to accept that going in. It is a compromise between an ordinary, minimalist Windows laptop and a large, heavy Windows tablet. The big plus here is that you can use it either/or quickly and effectively.
As a laptop...its light and compact. Perfectly suitable for general use, web-surfing, office apps, and a few specific advanced uses within reason. Most people will find it powerful enough for most anything they will do. The i5-8250U is actually a pretty decent processor, roughly matching the low-power version i7's of the recent past. It also roughly matches desktop/high-end versions of i7's of a few years ago. It is definitely no slouch. The memory is DDR3 of ordinary speed. The hardrive is a Samsung NVMe drive, which offers roughly half the performance of the best of the best desktop version. Thats actually really good. The graphics are integrated 620, which is plenty of ordinary tasks and even some less graphics intensive games.
As a tablet...its heavy and rather large. Perfectly suitable for general use, web-surfing, office apps, and a few specific advanced uses within reason. Having all those things mentioned in the previous paragraph is what you want in a laptop, but not really so much in a tablet. It adds a lot of weight, and eats battery life. You could get away with a lot less hardware specifications and still have a great tablet experience with increase battery life as the benefit.
So, who is this for? General business use is the main audience, They can afford to spend the extra cash to get higher specs on what is really a device made for them. I would not buy this particular model for a high school student or a college student. Get one of the lower end models for them or just get them something different. This is just going to be an expensive toy of limited use for that audience. Definitely don't buy this for a science major or engineering major. This device will fall completely short in too many ways. I would actually recommend HS and College students get the Surface Go over the Surface Pro. Smaller, lighter, and far cheaper. Yeah, its limited. But, it will work great as a carry-around, and then get a real laptop for the dorm room or whatever that can actually do some heavy lifting.

I replaced a Surface Pro 2 which seemed to be dying. Turned out to be Microsoft software update issues. That is now running like a champ with Version 1903. Since the new Surface Pro 6 performs so well, I decided to keep it also. I have two other computers, including a fully loaded Surface Book, and I still prefer the Surface Pro 6. The size makes it so convenient for travel. The Surface Pro 6 can well serve as one's only computer. It works like a desktop or a tablet.

Moving to Mac OS back in the Windows Me & XP days I have seen Win 10 come a long way, because I use Windows machines at work and Apple devices at home (2-iMacs, 1-MacbookPro, 1 Ipad Pro and 2 Mini's). In search to replace my aging iPad Pro 9.7 gen 1, I was looking at the new iPads Pro's and wondering if they "could" be a desktop alternative also, the story is NOT, it still runs basically the Phone IOS on a big screen, apps are not "full" apps, like Office 365. Playing around with the Surface Pro 6 i was impressed, and after I purchased it and got it setup and running this machine is super impressive, both as a tablet and a laptop, they keyboard is so much better than the brick type keys on the macbook pro (that I hate) its an ease to use. The battery is excellent, portability excellent and Window home 10 (upgraded to pro after purchase) are super customizable, stable and very easy to work on. As an Apple continuity device user I cannot knock Apple, I enjoy thier products, but those in the same boat should seriously consider Windows machines that are beginning to have the same unique "hand-off" features and a really great machines with this. Now I am looking at the Surface Studio, but being a tech junkie too much $ for now. But later - Gator....

I purchased this tablet since I travel extensively and wanted something a bit lighter than a regular laptop and stronger than an Ipad. I highly recommend this tablet for anyone who does PC-based work.
This couldn't be easier to get started. Just open the box, charge it up and you're off an running. I recommend getting the arc mouse over the pen (although I got both). It's a lot of fun to use and explore.

I spent a lot of time deciding between a MacBook Air and a Surface Pro. My main goal was to get the most portable device that also ran a full OS. Even though I already have a MacBook Pro and love it, the Surface Pro checks all the boxes in terms of design, portability, and also runs Windows 10 home edition. It is quiet and the battery last most of the day. Thoroughly happy with my purchase.

Nice machine. Like the tablet aspect. I got the separate keyboard with it so it can be used as a laptop which is a nice option. Screen size is nice and it is lightweight so it is good for traveling. Battery life is good. A bit on the expensive side and unless you catch a deal the keyboard is extra but I think worth it.
My only issue is the lack of USB ports (only has one) - needs more!

I love everything about the Surface Pro 6 besides the lack of at least one USB-C port and the lap-ability. Overall, it's truly amazing. The battery life has been incredible, the performance fantastic, and the design is great to look at. I'd recommend the Surface to anyone. I do wish it had USB-C and was a little more lap-friendly. I can get by for the most part with slight adjustments to the way I sit, but when I'm on the train, it is easily jostled and the kickstand has slipped off of my legs several times.

I upgraded from Surface pro 4 to pro 6, and the difference is substantial. The new pro 6 is lighter, the cooling system is significantly quieter (so quite that I can't even hear it), and the battery lasts longer. The processor is eight generation, and as such, a big improvement with respect to the pro 4.
