Unfortunately you have to buy this upgrade to allow a computer to join a domain. Simple to install the license code and get it upgraded.

Windows 8 mahcines are not being shipped with pro versions installed even though all of the software and configurations are installed. You need this costly key to unlock those features.

Business needed to be able to RDP into a windows 8 machine. problem was it was 8 standard...no RDP in standard. So, for $100 we upgraded them to 8.1 pro. It worked...they are happy. Personally, i still rather 7...but you go where the tech takes ya!

This is software that had to be purchased for work purposes. There's many functions of the new software that I'm not thrilled with, but it's a new change so I'm sure I'll get use to it. Bottomline, it functions as it's suppose to.

If you are a gamer, I am told that you will need pro over just regular 8. It supports the games that are played better. I am sure it does a lot more than that as well but that is my knowledge.

I installed the Pro Pack on 8.1 and it went seamlessly. I fired it up and was able to play DVDs, music, watch live TV with an external tuner. It does what the free software did in Windows 7.
