Customers are saying

Customers value the engaging gameplay, compelling story, and innovative Nemesis System in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Many also appreciate the game's substantial content and the option of a lower price point for an older title. While some found aspects repetitive, concerns were raised regarding the inclusion of in-game purchases. The action, difficulty progression, and open-world environment were also frequently praised.

If you played the first one, then you know what your in for. If you like anything that has to do with Tolkien, then you have to play this series. Even if you don't care about the whole lord of rings world but you like actionRPGS in an open world environment where you can recruit enemies to work for you and take down armies of evil fiends. Middle Earth has never been this alive. You must play this game.

The game is pretty much like the previous game so its like an Assassins Creed in the Lord of the Rings Universe. There has been a lot of controversy with the decision to have loot boxes in a single player game and those items you receive arent permanent. You dont need to open a single loot box to beat the game 100% but the fact that they are there will make people give in. If you are able to ignore the micro transactions this game is solid

I love this game so much lol. I reccomend playing Shadows of Mordor before playing this game so you understand whats going on. If you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings and the lore behind it. Then this game is for you. I platinumed the game, which means i recieved all trophys possible, if that doesnt tell you that the game is good, then not really sure how else to explain it.

If you're a fan of Shadow of Mordor then you'll definitely enjoy Shadow of War. This sequel improves on the original in almost every single way. More locations, expanded Nemesis system, and multiple ways to customize your play style, with skill alterations, new equipment system, and gem slots. My only real criticisms are that the story is kinda generic and there isn't enough enemy variety.

If you're already familiar with the series, and the praised nemesis system and gameplay, than you'll almost surely love this game, as it is an added improvement with much more content and things to do. The story wasn't as good as the first game, but there are tons of added side quests and collectibles, etc to get that actually do allow for added powers or abilities. The only gripe is what I imagine what a lot of people will comment on, with the last mission being a huge grindfest. But the main story and everything you wanted to do in the game had concluded to that point already, so it is recommended to just skip it and youtube the secret added ending, rather than grind for hours just to see it. Nevertheless that one bad point, does not drag down the rest of the game which was a noted improvement in nearly all facets compared to the original.

The Proper Way To Do A Sequel

I was enthralled by the original game with its Nemesis system and combat, and with the sequel they tweaked it to perfection. Everything is polished and bigger with more armies, worlds, and creatures to control. The story is nothing to write home about, but its the combat and the world itself that has me addicted for hours on end.

Shadow of Mordor was a great Assasin's Creed esque leap into the Lord of the Rings world w/ a fresh story, but this game just adds on to something already amazing. Shadow of War has improvements in all gameplay mechanics and graphics. It's a wild ride I recommend to any Lord of the Rings fan or Assasin's Creed fan.

This is a truly fantastic game that gives you the sense of being a truly heroic character who take on armies of orcs single handed. The different difficulty settings allow the game to be enjoyed by casual and die-hard game players alike. After the main story is finished there are still several hours of game left.

If you liked the first one in the series, you'll love this game. If you haven't played the first game you really should because it is a really fun game. It has a great story, amazing graphics, and easy controls. Shadow of War builds and improves on the same concepts. One of my favorite games of this year.

Everything that made the 2014 hit great returns in a big way in Shadow of War. Combat is more challenging this time, but you're given a ton of new skills to tinker with in a deep RPG skill tree. The famous Nemesis system is back with added tiers to make it deeper & more immersive this time around.

Yes, there are microtransactions if you want to use them, but if you don't want to spend real money to progress your character then just grind through the story and side missions and you can get what you need. I'm not through the story yet, because I'm grinding through side missions, but over 50% through and the story is good thus far. The visuals are better than SoM and the new skills are cool. Flying on dragons!!! Freeze skill is hard to learn, but once mastered is very helpful. Staff blade strike [hold square on PS4] is nice when you can get ready to fight, but is worthless in a mass battle because it takes too long. Several other new skills and the gem crafting aspect are better than the last game. The button push to reaction time in fights is a bit slow at times and the game is grindy to get skill points early on, but it visually better and there are more fun skills than the SoM.

This game is a great game, But it has it's flaws. My two biggest gripes are the micro-transactions, Which isn't that big of a deal (Just do not buy the in-game currency), and the section of the game called the Shadow Wars. It is 10 stages of just defending your fortresses. It gets very repetitive and boring, and you have to complete the 10 stages of shadow wars to see the final cut scene and credits. Other than those two gripes of mine I think this game is fun to play. You will get a lot of hours out of this game, I easily put anywhere between 20 to 45 hours into this game and only completed 90 something percent of the game. The shadows of the past missions is all i did not complete. Overall, I recommend this game. Buy this game on sale, And don't buy the in-game currency.

I have only about four hours into the game so far but it has been fun. Graphics are great, no clipping with the character, and no slow down with water. Haven't had much experience with the nemesis system yet but am looking forward to more time with the game to check it out.

Got this game at Bestbuy because it was on sale. For the price and it being a new release I could not pass it up. I was on the list of one our family members. Never played the game and won’t know if they will like it. The graphics for the advertising looked good.

If you are looking for a awesome open world game that improves greatly on the first one look no further. This game has more than enough thing to keep you busy. Only thing is ij don't recommend paying for the microtransactions.

Difficulty is progressive in the game. (The game scales difficulty based on your progress). Great addition to the former game with even more fluid game play and moves. Somewhat strategy based and in need of timing skills.

If you played Shadow of Mordor then you know what to expect. This game picks up immediately where that game left off and continues the story between Talion and Calibrimbor. The world is bigger, the nemesis system is more robust and the gameplay hits all the right albeit familiar notes. While not deal breaking for me some people might feel otherwise my issues. The rune system is gone and we’re left with a gem system that isn’t as varied. The graphics while still looking extremely good aren’t as detailed as Mordor. The cutscenes also suffer degradation of quality over the previous game which is surprising since everything else is done so well. Fatal strikes and death blows in your enemies have been toned down and aren’t nearly as visceral as the previous game. Despite it’s shortcomings, Shadow of War is worth owning if you are a fan of the original.

A great sequel to a previously great game. They have a difficulty option now to turn up the heat and the nemesis system is expanded. Only drawback is the heavy, heavy in game purchasing they try throwing at you. Sad but that's video games nowadays.
