Posted .The rechargeable batteries that come with the Midland X-Talker radios, when fully charged and used sparingly throughout the day should last about 5 hours. When the radios are heavily used during the day, the charge will be closer to 4 hours. The battery drains very fast, like 2 hrs or less., i had to keep it charged. Figured it will not do us good if going hiking and unable to charge. I returned mine.

I just wanted to comment that there is a large difference in the environment of a vehicle to vehicle communication with UHF radios like these and the environment for hiking. FRS radios require line-of-sight to the other radio user. When used in a vehicle the signal has to get out around the metal and glass that make up that vehicle. That will reduce the range and will cause your battery to work harder, therefore discharging faster. When you are hiking the fixed antenna of the radio is not blocked in the same way as it is in the vehicle. You will see much better range and better battery life when using them for hiking.

It charges fully, one of them appears to make a static sound the other is dead. Can’t even return it within 30 days, only within two weeks. Bad deal.

Radios don’t work 1 mile out on flat land without obstructions. Great for jeepers that are right behind you but not for my intended purpose.

I got a range less than 1 mile in urban settings, and no greater range across open land and water. The item, therefore, did not meet my needs as it was advertised as being useful for several miles.
