Crappy radios. Terrible range.

Radios don’t work 1 mile out on flat land without obstructions. Great for jeepers that are right behind you but not for my intended purpose.

They are good maybe 1 mile but by 2 miles forgetaboutit. For me no good, for you and no obstructions maybe.

Posted .Hey there - the transporting business makes me think that these radios are being used inside a vehicle. If that is the case, then yes you will see decreased range because the signal has to get around the metal and glass that make up your vehicle. As with any UHF radio, you need a line-of-sight to the other radio user.

Don’t connect bottons don’t work and the range is supposed to be 28 miles, not even two miles range. Total waist of money. Dont buy it.

Posted .We are sorry to hear this. Obstruction plays a big role, if you were on a cruise ship there is a lot of obstruction with all the metal on the ship.

Posted .With the range, it could be up to 28 miles. This would vary with the terrain or any obstructions that you would be in. It could be a mile or it could be more. If there are a lot of obstructions you could also get less than a mile. It truly is dependent on the setting and we cannot guarantee a minimum distance. However, we have tested it and reached up to 28 miles - unobstructed - with this radio. Please reach out to [email protected] if we can help further.

Posted .The FCC allows for the maximum wattage in handheld radios to be 5 watts. A general rule for range is 1 mile per watt. Depending on the X-Talker model you have the wattage is between under 1/2 watt-1.8 watts. The X-Talkers average 1/4-1/2 mile. The extreme ranges can be reached in perfect conditions such as over water or mountain top to mountain top. If you are needing more range than the walkies are providing you the Midland Customer Experience Ambassadors would be happy to help with recommendations and check into a warranty replacement or exchange for you. Posted .Honestly, cruise ships are going to be difficult for any UHF walkie talkie due to the steel that makes up the ship. If you are on different floors the signal is going to have a hard time getting to you. Most people have luck using our GXT1000 series radios since they are more powerful.
