Even tried being 3 stories up on an outdoor balcony and the other radio in the backyard. Balcony would have line of sight to the other radio except for maybe two buildings and trees. We were on Channel 1 using high power and CTCSS. I wasn't expecting to be able to communicate from 38 miles away or whatever the advertised distance was but a mile seemed reasonable.

I used them in an open field and they didn't work past 1500 to 2000 feet so I dont kmow what they are talking about
