This is a really nice activity tracker! It is accurate, waterproof, small and stylish in a very simplistic design. I would highly recommend getting in touch with Misfit and have them send you (free of charge) the updated wrist strap to hold this. The original strap can release the Shine2 very easily. The new strap is 100% better and very secure.

I had the Misfit one for about 3 weeks before getting this second gen version. The reason for the purchase was that the version one fell off so many times it eventually got lost. I have to say upon reading the reviews on the new version I was impressed, I do like the sleep monitor and activity tracking as well as the sleek/slim design, and never having to charge was a great notion for me. The new features of notifications work great and the ease of showing the stats is easier. But it still has an issue with coming loose from its wrist band even with the new secure clip in place, this is the reason I have to give it low ratings. I have lost this many times, having to use the blue tooth to see if I am at least close to it and then retrace me steps (which are not counted during this time). This is a huge engineering flaw in this device that I was hoping was fixed with this new generation of the Misfit but it wasn't, so if you want to risk losing $100 ever now and then from losing this device buy it, if not I would move on.

Having been a Fitbit Flex wearer for the past couple of years I was looking to move on to a fitness tracker that looked nicer than the chubby "livestrong" bracelet and quite frankly did more things. I was restricted in my choices in that the tracker had to communicate with Virgin Pulse so that I could sync my steps and get credits toward my employer's health insurance. I also wanted a device that played nice with MyfitnessPal and Walgreens Balance Rewards.
The Misfit Shine was the only one that fit the bill on all fronts. I was particularly amped that I would be able to track my sleep without first having to alert my device that i was actually going to sleep. Nice.
Anyway after spending about three weeks with the Shine 2, I was mildly satisfied but left wanting more.
On the plus side, it did meet the criteria that I described earlier. I did however experience some growing pains out of the box. The directions that come with the Misfit are minimalist to say the least. I'm somewhere between a gadget geek and nerd and I felt a bit lost trying to get the device to sync with all of my websites. After awhile I learned that you need to go into the Profile menu and click the three dots to access the apps it's compatible with. Trying to sync from the other websites is an exercise in frustration.
I eventually got it working only to have my first day of activity mysteriously erased after I tried to sync the device to my phone for the first time. I did this by pulling down on the Home Screen. I've since only synched by pushing the Sync button on the Device screen and didn't experience any other problems. Who knows?
Then there's the infamous band. It's cheap and as of this review there are no other accessories that you can buy for the Shine 2.. The disc fell out of the band at least a half dozen times a day until I realized that you had to attach the clip that came with it to keep it secure. I'll blame the minimalist instructions. Anyway, after I used the clip I didn't have any fumbles for the next two weeks.
As for looks, I personally thought the black on black shine was nicer looking that the Fitbit Flex. Although the few people that actually take notice of my fitness bands commented that it didn't look as nice as the Fitbit. Okay then, chalk looks up as a draw.
The sleep tracking was cool and generally worked well. The first few nights it seemed to be calibrating and would miss an hour in the beginning of my sleep or had me waking up an hour or so earlier than i did. After that though it seemed generally accurate and not having to turn sleep mode on is a huge plus. It just works. Well done.
However even the sleep tracking had one negative for me. I was looking forward to the Smart Alarm capability of the Shine but it never worked. I think I read that it only worked with iPhone and not Android. I definitely never saw it happen. Speaking of the alarm it fails in every aspect. First of all you can only set the alarm to go off daily. Yes, that means weekends too. I can't believe that the engineers didn't think of more alarm customization if not even a weekday only mode but it's true. Oh, additionally the vibration motor for the alarm is extremely weak. You can feel it but I certainly wouldn't count on it to wake you out of a deep REM sleep if your life (or job) depended on it.
In conclusion before my 30 days was up I started looking around at other trackers including the Misfit Flash. It was only $14.95 at Best Buy and appeared to do the same exact things. I bought it today and in fact it basically does the same things.
Its plastic instead of metal but no one will notice. It actually comes in wider variety of colors and I feel the gray/white one that I bought looks sportier and nicer than the black/black shine 2. It syncs just as well, tracks steps just as accurately and has the same sleep mode. Heck even the band hold the tracker more secure.
If I'm looking at negatives really the main one is that the light indicators are impossible to read in outdoor sunlight. Inside, and at night its fine. I very rarely used it as a watch so that's not something I'd consider a huge loss. Again, it's plastic instead of metal. I didn't have people falling over themselves over the metal on the Shine 2 and I personally don't value that aesthetic so that's not a deal breaker either.
Okay so even if those things bother you, does it bother you enough to pay $99 instead of $15? I didn't think so.

I love the size and how lightweight this tracker is. I've used many activity trackers in the past and this is the only one that feels very natural and doesn't get in the way with daily activities. That being said, I have found it can pop out of the wrist band very easily and could be very easy to lose. The water resistance and 4-6 month battery life is very nice because I don't have to remember to take it off before swimming or showering and there is no need to miss tracked activities due to the need to charge it. Still getting used to keeping an eye out for it to be sure i don't lose it. Over all pleased with the style, the weight, accuracy, fantastic syncing with MyFitnessPal, comes with a body clip for daily use or when going to a fancy event and would like to keep it more concealed.

Well the above is true, unless it gets caught on something and rips off! I have had this for about 1 month now. Love not having to charge it, love not having to worry about water. Like the notifications and the daily alarm. They are not strong, but good enough. I own a Apple Watch as well, and the Misfit alerts me first. I have lost it twice, once in the car going to the glove, caught on something, but found it a day later. The other time, it got hooked on a door and bounced on the floor. I would recommned this, but get a new band on Amazon. You'll love that you did.

If you want a comfortable, basic activity tracker this is one for you! I've received many compliments on its look and design. It is not as sophisticated as the Fitbit but that doesn't mean it isn't smart. It does track your activity, goals and sleep, it also alerts you with vibrations to remind you to move throughout the day. The Misfit link connects the device to play music, take a selfie etc. You also get text and call notifications on your tracker, I love this so no excuses for missing communications. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars, it may pop out of its band, it only happened to me when it caught on something. I really like mine!

I only bought this because it was on sale. I have had the previous model for years and it’s still working fine, which is the prefect testament for this tracker. No worry about getting it wet like another one I have. No need to charge it regularly - it runs for weeks/months on the button battery. It tracks well and is programmable for certain activities. And it may be the only one that tracks cycling, at least the last time I looked. For a no-nonsense fitness tracker that can last for years, this is the one to get. The one I replaced I put into service in Nov 2013 and it was still working fine. I have no reason to believe this one won’t last just as long.

The Misfit Shine 2 has a very nice design. I've received a few compliments. Its also a seemingly well rounded tracker. It's a step, sleep and activity tracker with the ability to tell time. It is also waterproof to 50m (~150 ft). The app is designed quite nicely as well.
Using it for over a month however, has exposed quite a few issues:
Sleep - If you take naps or work the night shift then the misfit will not detect that sleep activity. If you sleep at night then it is automatic detection and quite accurate.
Swimming - Although this is waterproof and perfect for swimming, you won't get any swim specific stats unless you pay an additional 9.95 to upgrade it. Swimming will otherwise just show up as active time.
Activity - activity is not automatically detected like on other trackers, but needs the user to tap on the misfit 3 times to start and 3 times to stop recording an activity. Additionally, you need to choose the activity you're going to do ahead of time on the app for it to record specific for that activity.
App - apparently the iOS app is quite awesome. However, the android app is severely lacking. For one, when you first register your tracker, if you sign up with a google account you will lose access to misfit link (taking a pic with your phone by tapping the misfit, etc.). Also, all social aspects of the app are missing from the android version. They just added an update that allows assigning specific colors to specific functions. Missing from the android version.
The biggest issue for most other users was losing the misfit during activity or even normal wear. I almost lost it while playing soccer and requested that misfit send me there updated band. Thankfully customer service is excellent and the new band makes the misfit very secure.
Overall, even with the long con list, I'd still recommend this tracker. From my research all the trackers in this price range are 3/5 stars. If you don't mind the cons I've listed, then this is a good tracker to get.

Don't pay any attention to any negative reviews you read about this device or the company. I researched trackers for two years before parting with my hard-earned money for this one. And I made the BEST choice!! It works flawlessly, it's extremely accurate and is very simple to use. There are a few tiny processes that may throw you for a loop at first, but the company is right there to assist you! They got back to me quickly with intelligent answers and suggestions. Always courteous and helpful.
The issue of the round tracker popping out of the band is true. I guess it was a poor design from the beginning. However, Misfit has addressed that. If you buy a tracker from a retail source like I did, it may not come with the new free device safety holder for the back of the band. Don't worry! Contact the company and they will send you the new holder free of charge and no shipping charges! They will also send a little helper for changing the watch battery when it's time to do that. And there's another plus! It runs on a watch battery. I have plenty of juice left on mine after 2 months. My brother is already complaining about having to charge his Fitbit so often.
I don't know what time zone Misfit is in, but the answers to my questions sometimes took 12-18 hours to reach me but they consistently did. I don't know where some people's negative experiences come from with this product unless it is their own impatience. If you have a problem, ask the company. They will answer and help you out. And there are a few tricky Bluetooth things they can help you with. Once you know about those, you can set it and forget it. It works like it's supposed to. I do not work for Misfit. But from what I've seen, I might like to.

We researched this item and found good reviews for use in pool which was major selling point. Had a horrible time with the tracker falling off the wristband. Wristband hit car and broke. Started using the clip-on device and have not had any problems with the tracker. Love how easy it is to download info to my phone.

Overall I love this tracker, the features for the price are hands down the best value for your money. The multi function LED lights help you keep you on track, and the integrated watch is a great feature.
I like the vibrating notification for text messages, and phone calls... I often know someone is calling before my phone rings.
The built in alarm clock is a nice feature, and the app in simple and easy to use.
I only gave it 4 stars because of the band, while it is simple and comfortable; the device often pops out, in fact I have lost it a couple of times. Lucky for me each time it popped out I was at home or at work and I have been able pop it back in. A couple of times I thought it was long gone but found it in my car.
The Shine has other options for bands, and I would like to see other options for the Shine 2 that maybe will keep the tracker more secure.

The initial tracker did not come with the accessories in the box that were advertised, and after owning this for 9 days and using the product correctly, the tracker popped out of the wrist band, and I lost the tracker.
Regarding the tracker itself, I find it to be both lovely (I receive unsolicited compliments) and accurate. It made doing chores more fun, and it helped inspire me to increase my exercise. I love that it was versatile and waterproof. I really like this product. Although the Shine 2 is great while I have it, I can't love having a tracker that is prone to getting lost. That is, I can't love having something I do not have.
I did contact Misfit customer service (they only have email contact, no phone), and I received a replacement device from Misfit. This new tracker came with the most current wristband and clips, and it is significantly more secure. However, while far less frequently, the new tracker still falls out of the watchband on random occasions. So far, the new tracker has always bumped my hand as it falls out, so I have not lost it. While I continue to like very many aspects of the Shine 2, I still could not recommend this product to others. Again, it's only great while you have it.

I wanted this tracker based on a relative's experience. While I miss an actual display of activity the app is pretty friendly. Biggest issue is random popping out of device. Customer service had promised a fix is coming.. If you do have issues to report specific details like day and time are important to note. Overall decent tracker. I had one for nearly a year. Loved that I did not have to charge the battery. First battery lasted 4 months, second one 2 months, third one only a week. I purchased a second one, and the device would not stay in the wristband or the clip on. Kept falling out. I returned it because I was afraid that I would lose it when it kept falling out. So for the first 6 months of the first one, terrific. Last one was not worth the purchase.

The Misfit Shine 2 works beautifully. It's accurate, good looking, water resistant. My biggest complaint is that the disc pops out of the band WAY to easily. My previous Shine did not have this problem. But for the price, I'm willing to just keep an eye on it.

I've tried several activity trackers and smart watches. Each one left me wanting for a number of reasons; too big, too complicated, uncomfortable, bad phone apps, and my personal favorite... requiring me to shave my wrist for accurate measurement.
The Shine 2 was no different.
First, it is touch activated but not by just human skin. Your cuff, pocket, lapel, random atoms that are drifting by, all turn the LED's on.
Second, it is wildly inaccurate. During a 90 minute drive after breakfast I checked it and discovered I had walked a half mile. I knew that stretch between the bathroom and the bedroom seems long sometimes but wow.
Third, the app is at the same times overly complicated and lacking in information. What's hard about allowing me to set a simple goal and telling me if I met it? I don't want your goal, I want mine. I don't need 3 different analytics telling me if I met it or not, one will do.
Finally, it was uncomfortable to wear as a watch, useless at telling time accurately, and difficult to monitor progress without my phone in any other location I wore it.
Misfit needs to dial back the app, remember that we need form AND function, and that scratching my head is not a jog.

I have been wearing my Misfit Shine 2 activity tracker for two straight weeks. The device is easy to use and works well with the app on my phone. When you sync to the phone you can see your sleep length and nightly sleeping patterns broken down by light or deep sleep. For daytime activity, you set a goal depending on you standard daily activity and your Misfit Shine will track to that goal throughout the day. The best feature of the device is that you don't need to charge the unit. When the battery level is low, you replace the battery with a standard watch battery.
