I am impressed with the Moto Z2 so far. The battery life has been great and absolutely love how fast it charges from 15% to full charge in about an hour. Love the screen size and the processing speeds. I have been a loyal Motorola Droid customer for some time. Have had the Droid X, Droid Rzr, Droid Maxx, Droid Turbo, I may have missed one or two, and now the Moto Z2 Force. So far I'm very pleased with it's performance and features. I will have to say the only draw backs I have seen so far are how things the phone is and from what I have read in other reviews of how easy the screen is to be scratched. I think that Motorola should have stepped up and larger capacity battery with this device and that would have made it a little thicker. But saying that, the battery life has not been an issue so far as it does last me all day with no issues with have to carry a charger around with me. As far as the thickness goes, I do as I have done with all is predecessors in the past and put an Otter Box Defender case on it day one. I also put a self healing screen protector on it and removed the the one that comes with the Otter Box as it tends to get dust and dirt between it and the screen which would allow this screen to get scratched. So to conclude my review of the Moto Z2 Force I am very pleased with it so far and looking forward to see how well it follows the previous Droids that I've had.

Best smartphone I've had, Moto or other

Purchased at Best Buy Oct 2017, so have now used it daily for over three months. This is my third Motorola and Android smartphone (2015 Droid Turbo 2 and 2013 Droid Maxx, prior). I can't say enough positive things about this phone: Super snappy (iPhone X fast, perhaps?), excellent battery life, very fast Turbo charging, great Motorola camera app (much improved from earlier versions), very useful fingerprint sensor, usable voice recognition (both Google Assistant and Moto Voice), and more. Many misinformed web reviews almost steered me away from the Z2 Force, but I'm glad ignored them. Criticism of the Z2's smaller physical battery size vs. original Z is off base, battery life is actually higher due to Z2's much more efficient Snapdragon 835 processor, and other components. Also, most reviews over focus on Moto Mods, which I consider fairly useless (I own none), but the Z2 is a great flagship phone without them. The Z2's front fingerprint sensor is brilliant with Moto "One Button Nav" enabled to use finger swipes that are much faster than the standard Android home, app, and back buttons, plus it increases screen real estate for apps. It's also very fast for locking and unlocking with a quick touch -- I truly don't see how iPhone X FaceID can be faster or easier than this. Physical size and weight of this phone is ideal if you use a protector case. Without one, it's too thin to grip, but that's the point of its design. IMO, most other smartphones become *too* thick with protective cases. Verizon's flexible glass screen protector is inexpensive and makes the Z2's plastic shatterproof screen look and feel as nice as any glass phone screen. I love that this Z2 (and my prior DT2) is shatterproof, it's already survived several hard drops with zero damage. The new Moto camera app is a great improvement, very easy to use and some great features, and I now prefer it to iPhone and Google Camera apps. I especially love the Moto Action "quick capture" twist hand gesture to open the camera app (had this on DT2, as well), by far the fastest method I've ever used. I can twist the phone while coming out of my pocket, and the camera app will be open and ready to take a picture by the time I have it aimed at the subject (and while everyone else is still fumbling with their iPhones). I've snapped many great "fleeting moment" vacation shots thanks to this capability. The Z2's dual camera lens Depth Mode effects are also fun. I've generated some very artistic blurred and black and white background style shots. Action mode multiple exposure works great too, very fast and easy to review and discard unwanted shots. The Z2 Force camera is still deficient vs other flagship phones in low light, esp. with its lack of optical image stabilization (OIS). But outdoor daylight shots are great. And FWIW, there are also some pretty positive reviews of the Z2 camera app's Professional mode by advanced photographers, too. The "chop-chop" Moto Action hand gesture for flashlight on/off is brilliant, something I use multiple times every day on nighttime dog walks, in dimly lit rooms, in dark cabinets, etc. Seriously, it makes for the best flashlight I've ever owned, since it's instantaneous to turn on, very bright, and always in my pocket! Motorola also improved voice recognition by enabling both Google Assistant ("OK Google") and Moto Voice ("Show Me") to wake and unlock the phone hands free, something very few other brand smartphones can do. Moto Voice "Show Me" is a handy complement to "OK Google", I do use it regularly to open apps with my voice, near instantaneously, esp. when the phone is locked. "OK Google" on this Z2 works virtually the same as on my Google Home (in fact, both respond together when I'm home, which works fine). Other than low light camera improvements, the only other missing feature I anxiously await on my next Moto flagship phone (Z3 Force?) is IP68 waterproofing, which will be a de facto flagship trait in 2018 and beyond.

Let's face it, the moto mods are a bit gimmicky. The projector is fun (and great if you get it for free with the sale) but fairly low-def. The speakers are decent but weak on bass and can't connect via bluetooth. The camera has a great zoom with good image stabilization but really needs a bigger sensor to make it stand out compared to other smartphone cameras. All that said, the phone itself is a great performer. Call quality, if anyone cares anymore, is great. Performance is snappy in apps and games, and the screen looks great. The screen doesn't go edge to edge, but is very tough and responsive. I have to say, the camera should have been two different focal lengths instead of color and black and white. Black and white just isn't useful when you can desaturate any color picture very easily. That said, the flash works well, and the manual controls function nicely. I really think they missed the boat on the camera mod by not having a bigger sensor, but the zoom and stabilization on the mod are very good. All in all, it's a top end phone that you can get at a great price at BB (mine was $300 off and a free projector).

This is a great phone. It is very thin. I suggest you still get a screen protector because it will still scratch even though it is shatter proof. The speaker is built into the top front which I like but if you set alarms make sure you don't face it down. Haven't found any problems with camera yet. Processor is fantastic. I play games and noticed improvement in them compared to my other phones. I got the free projector mod. It's cool but it's not bright enough to enjoy unless you are in a completely dark room with a screen or a white wall. If you are trying to show something to your friends, the lack of having a bare white wall to show it on makes it useless. The only complaint I have for the phone is there is no screen mirroring, dlna or video out(display port) built into the phone. Hopefully they will come out with a mod for that. I also found case options limited for this phone.

Would Not Buy Again - 2 deal breaker issues

Previously I had several Galaxy phones. I purchased the moto because I needed a new phone and this had a nice size screen and I figured android phones are basically the same. I have found a few issues that annoy me so much I wish I had returned this phone when I still had the chance. I would not purchase this again. Issue 1: No notification light. If you get a message or voice mail and do not hear the notification tone, you will never know. The phone does not have any kind of blinking notification light. To find out if you have missed a call, you must keep touching the screen to see if there is a missed call or voice mail notification. This is a *significant* missing feature in my view. I tried a 3rd party app that is supposed to flash the screen when there is a waiting message but I could not make it work. Reviews and warnings for other similar 3rd party apps made me drop searching for more. So now, I am a slave to my phone, having to tap the screen all the time to see if I missed a call. 2. Another significant drawback is that there isn't any headphone check. Something I did not notice when purchasing the phone. To use headphones, you must use a special USB to headphone conversion cord. 1 is included with the phone. So you must always carry around this extra cord. If you are driving in the car and you are using the headphone cord to listen to music on your phone, you cannot charge your phone. Conversely, if you are charging your phone you cannot use headphones. Another significant draw back to an expensive phone. If I had known about these two issues before my purchase, I would have never purchased this phone. On a less important note, Best Buy does not carry screen protectors or cases to protect this phone. The reason the staff gave is that protector cases can interfere with the moto "mods", which I expect I will never use. Since then, and since I have not gone to amazon to find a case for this, I have since dropped my phone and created a small crack in my screen. I purchased the Best Buy protection, but I have not bothered to use it on a small crack. So now I will have to finally go to amazon to find some kind of case to protect this phone. The phone has a nice screen, that is the best feature. The camera is just "ok" in my opinion. I use a better camera for photos. I also find the amazon app to read barcodes on this phone worked *much* better on my galaxy phone than it does on this phone. Again, it appears to be because the camera isn't great. Yes there is a moto camera add-on, but I don't want to have to purchase an addon that makes my phone bigger, more things to carry around, just so I can take decent pictures.

My sister bought one of the older models. So I decided to go for the newest one. This is a great phone. The price is a little high for what the phone can do. After I bought it I realized it doesn't have a jack for earphones which I wish I would have realized before I bought it. But that would be my only complaint so far. It has a really good camera from what I understand but I haven't really messed with it yet I've only had the phone for about 4 months.

The camera is better than expected, very easy to navigate through phone. I also love the Mods, I have the speaker and waiting on my shipment for the projector, and so excited to receive it. I read nothing but great reviews on the Projector Mod. Motorola out did their selves with this phone, definitely set themselves aside and above the rest, if you love the Android system as I do then this phone will not disappoint you!!

This phone is a breath of fresh air compared to what is out in the market today. I've been a Samsung Galaxy fan for years, but I found their last line of products lacking in anything new. The moto mods make this phone unique, but that is the primary reason I purchased this phone. The screen is good size (I prefer larger screens), and pixels provide vibrant images. Some have commented about the camera on the back of the phone being too large and looking like a robot, but it doesn't really bother me. Moto mods offer some cool alternatives to the everyday stuff, like a speaker mod, projector mod, wireless charging mod, camera mod, and an upcoming gaming mod (turns your phone into a controller, looking forward to this one). This let's you take your phone to the next level. I own all the mods except the camera and forthcoming gaming mod. I tested the camera in store, but the mod didn't offer me much for what I wanted the phone for (I don't take a lot of pictures). Would recommend if you want something different. On a side note, I did have to reach out to Motorola support, very helpful!

Very happy with the purchase. There were a few issues with the purchasing this phone as an upgrade/replacement of my existing Verizon phone, but I have to give a lot of credit to Best Buy Mobile Support - they walked me through the process, contacted Verizon, and got the issues resolved within several hours. The phone itself is great - high quality, excellent technical parameters, very little of "bloatware" (a few Verizon apps and a couple of Motorola apps), very light and pleasant to hold. The 4G LTE reception is so-so (1-3 bars), but the Wi-Fi calling (with HD voice and video enabled) is excellent. All apps that I was able to test are working well; 64G of memory seems to be sufficient so far (and I will be purchasing a Micro SD card just in case anyway, for music and pictures), the screen is very responsive, the power consumption is reasonable (1 day with moderate use to drain the battery, so I've ordered a power pack). Overall, a great phone to have.

I highly recommend this phone for anyone that is looking to get a new smart phone or anyone that is upgrading from the first Moto Z. It has a nice bright screen with nice bright color. The finger print scanner is a lot better than the first one, more responsive. Battery life isn't as bad as I thought. I could easy get a 2 days out of it but of course that's with the Moto mod battery pack. I haven't used just the phone battery. Only thing that I don't like is that it doesn't come with a back cover if you don't have a mod attached. I'm not sure if the first Moto Z back cover will fit. It might seeing as the mods work the same. The dual rear camera works awesome. Clear picture quality. All around better phone then the first Moto Z.

I like the size & weight of the phone. You definitely need to keep a phone case on it especially if you're not using the camera protectors. I use both. The camera is nice. I don't like the Google photo album tho....I like the old Gallery to keep my photos. There is no crop choice for your photos, that's a big thumbs down for me. I mainly bought it for the storage capacity plus being able to use a memory card.

Love this phone, it's fast to browse, i watch videos and battery last all day, like the duo camera, lot of memory, speakers are not to loud but with the smart speaker with Alexa that I'm getting free with the purchase of this phone it should get louder enough to enjoy my favorite music.

The salesperson pushed the S9 as a better deal (it was $100 cheaper), but my last phone was a Turbo 2. I like the familiar GUI, but the Z2 Force is much, much faster. Missing, of course, is a headphone jack, and the notifications are annoying, but the phone is an overall good choice.
