I was a bit skeptical about buying this phone based off of some of the online reviews here, and elsewhere. The camera seemed to be the "target" of most of the complaints....though I do not know why as it is quite adequate and pictures and videos are quite clear. The response speed of the operating system is also amazing.
Unfortunately no matter if I use the Verizon Messaging+ App or the Google Messages App I m unable to get the phone to give me an audible notification for text alerts. Hopefully they (Verizon/Google/Lenovo, who ever'd at fault) are able to fix this glitch soon - it's more than a slight inconvenience.

I'm used to Moto z2 and this phone is very similar. I wish they still had a phone with multiple cam lenses but at least the front camera is now better quality. The rear cam still takes good photos, though is tricky to get it to focus close up sometimes compared to dual cams on the z2. The Moto actions are still one of my favorite features on these phones. Most of the features on this phone aren't any different than many of their cheaper varieties, with the exception of storage space and a little bit of speed. Worth comparing but still happy overall.

First off, thanks Best Buy for such a great deal on the phone. $240 is an awesome price.
First off, I don't need the latest and greatest. Just give me a phone that can handle about 6-7hrs of casual browsing daily. So after deleting or disabling the bloatware Verizon puts on the phone, I personalized it to my likings. I don't do gaming or social media, so I also got rid of all the apps Verizon installed. I like keeping my phone pretty plain with no battery draining apps, processes, or services.
I had read that the finger print sensor was flaky, so I didn't bother setting it up. I'll wait until they fix the issues.
So as I write this review, I'm finishing up my first whole day of using the z4 (approximately 11hrs of use) And I have to say I'm really impressed with the battery. I've done quite a bit of browsing, listening to music, YouTube videos, texting, and phone calls, and my battery went from 100% to 35%. So I expect even better battery results during the week, when I have to work, and can't use my phone as much. The camera is pretty good too. I did notice colors being a little off in low light. But nothing I can't fix with editing.
I also liked the speed of browsing from site to site. Real snappy, and no lag at all.
The display is nice and bright. No problem with it when I was outside, in the sun.
So after my first couple days of using the z4, I can say I really like it. If I were into gaming and social media, I'm sure the battery speed would be negatively affected. But I'm not! So this will work for me.
I'll update my review if anything changes.

This is an underrated phone, well, at least underrated by the phone/android review sites. This is a very nice phone .. ESPECIALLY for $240!! If you are not into spending $800+ for a phone, a mid-range phone on sale is the way to go. I would probably buy something else if I had to spend full price for this phone at $500 .. i would look at other phones. But this phone more than half off is a great deal. Very nice build! Nice display with minimal bezels and small notch. I do find I have to turn up the brightness a bit, but other than that the display is perfect. Battery life has been good, easily get thru the day. Processor is adequate .. no lag that I've experienced so far (I do go thru the settings and disable a few things, i also disable Digital Wellbeing).
The camera is fine for my use .. it is fine in good lighting, but does not hold up as well at night like a Pixel 3 camera. Plenty of storage .. and an SD slot! Headphone jack! etc..
Anyway, the bottom line is this .. if you like buying phones outright and not spending a ton of money on a phone, this phone is fine. If it gets stolen, destroyed, lost, etc.. who cares, it was only $240. If I get sick of it in a year or so, who cares! I can go buy something else. You do make some small sacrifices for this range of phone, but I'm fine with those sacrifices because I'm not into spending $800 for a phone.
This phone $300 or less if a very good buy and recommended.

I have to thank Best Buy for the amazing deal on this phone compared to prices at actual cell phone stores (which I won’t mention by name). I’ll be doing my cell phone shopping at Best Buy from now on because they offer better deals. Plus they do not pressure you to purchase a bunch of extra crap that you don’t even want nor need. Such as Bluetooth speakers or other random things. But *if* you would like to ask, they kindly help you look for a new case or something you would actually need/like to have for your new phone.
I love the Moto Z line. I have had the Z play, Z3, and now the Z4. I am in love with the mod concept. I have 4 mods and love their different functions. I use a battery pack mod daily (I have 2, one has wireless charging and one does not). I use my JBL speaker mod nearly daily. I have the nice camera mod too which I don’t use quite as often.
The Z4 doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great phone. The phone’s camera is stunning. Screen is vibrant. I like the fingerprint scanner on the screen itself. The headphone jack is back! You can still slide an SD card in there for extra storage if you’d like. (Although 128 GB is a lot, at least for me!) And for this price? Wow! Unbeatable! I doubt you could get this nice of a phone anywhere for this price that Best Buy is offering.

My family has already subscribed to the mods and share them: speakers, projector, battery packs etc., so when this latest version in the Moto Z family became available, I had to take advantage. The Z4 has not let me down, I love the beautiful screen and the technology advances often overlooked by others. I have external battery pack mods for all the family phones, but have yet had to use it with the long life battery. I carry my phone with belt holster case so it has the extra room to carry a mod if needed, therefore I can easily attach the project and show my screen to an audience and even use the headphone jack (or bluetooth) to connect to a speaker. The best of both worlds. The technologies with pictures are also pretty stunning! The night vision pictures are phenomenal and the feature to auto snap when all participants have smiles on their faces is pretty incredible. I am very pleased with the phone despite the attention that all the other phones appear to get. Very nice continuance of the Z family! The deal through Best Buy was exceptional for the price and the ease of adding it to my wireless provider. Great overall experience!

Moto Z4 - Another Great Version of this phone

Just upgraded from Moto z force to Moto Z4 and this is a great phone. Very fast start up. Runs android 9.0 which is nice. Has facial recognition, and gesture capability (I have not used this as of yet). Great battery life - I can go all day an have multiple app open and running. I am a heavy emailer and social app user and its lasting until the end of the day easily.
Still has the app drawer which I like. Has a head phone jack which to me is A HUGE PLUS. I hate sharing the same port as the charger for headphones as you are so limited. Camera is much improved. The setup was very simple and no issues with just downloading from google my main account and then the phone setup all my apps. Most had the permissions with it as well.
The big plus to all of this, there was a deal on this phone for 5.00 a month with a new line and 10.00 for upgrade. I have tried and looked at phones that were 60 to 75 a month and they are not half of the phone that this one is.
Bang for the buck - this is a solid phone, great battery and has many features on the more expensive phones. Highly recommend to buy this one.

I was in the market for a cheaper phone to replace my iPhone 8, and comparing devices like Google's 3a and the Xr. I stumbled across the Moto Z4 on YouTube. To me this phone is very underrated you get great value for the price. The premium quality feel and the camera is shockingly good, also the phone is faster than I expected. I am a techy type of person and to my surprise this phone quite shocked me. The battery can last quite awhile depending on how you use your device, I never had to charge it until I went to sleep which is very late. This is a great phone if you want to get out of the top range market and get something more affordable that works great. The options on this phone are great as well and not to mention there are also tons Moto mods to add to the experience.

Great middle of the road phone. Might not be the flashiest, fastest, or best at anything with the exception of Mods mods.
Camera is more than adequate, comes with 128GB internal storage; expandable to... comes with Android 9.0 right out of the box. Got a great deal off the normal price. Battery lasts what seems like forever. Phone is built like a tank.
No complaints except the Moto mods are a love/hate thing. Most of the mods do add functionality; however, they do add bulk and weight. The fingerprint sensor is within the actual screen, but in my experience a bit touchy. Multiple tries to recognize print.

If you want
I have used this for a year and am pleased. No need to spend more for a fancy Android or iPhone.
Have not had any problems.
Good size. Camera works well.
I use Spotify and have lots of playlists. Hundreds of pictures and videos and have yet to run out of space.
I purchased a cheap glass screen protector and cheap plastic shock case on Amazon. I drop this phone at least once a week and have not had any problems.
I have not purchased or used any of the add-on mods.

I've had Moto phones for the past 10 years now. Razr Maxx, Turbo, Moto Plays. So I'm pretty used to Moto experience by now. Coming from the Moto Play 2, I can say the size is about the same but there is no bezel, so you're getting a larger screen. I'm kinda over the moto mods and never use them so i wish the camera bezel was flat and didnt protrude. It makes it really hard to find cases. The camera is definitely an improvement. Android 9 is also nice with floating screes when using youtube and netlix is my favorite feature. I do have to mention i find this phone glitchy unlike my past models, but i figured out how to work around it. First off after 8 days of having it (past the return date) the vibrate would make a static noise. I figured out that i had to plug it in and restart the phone in order to remedy that. If i restarted it without plugging it in, it would continue to make the static noise or just be unresponsive all together. Another annoyance is my camera freezes or wont load causing me to have to restart. For a few weeks another issue i was unable to log in to public wifi. Everytime i would try to log in it would "fail attempt" when the public sign in would pop up. That issue resolved itself but I hope with Android 10 this will help with all the other glitchy issues.

This is my upgrade from a Droid 2 that limped along as best I could for a long time. The Z4 is fast, responsive, looks great and takes fantastic photos. Be sure to get a cover that will provide some grip as this thing is super slick and has just enough heft to make it very easy to drop! I really like having expandable memory and an old school head phone jack for my "nice" over the ear sets. Most phones do not offer these two features together any longer.

I have found this to be an excellent phone. The camera is a major upgrade for Motorola. Moto actions make it very easy to access the camera and flashlight. The battery has been stellar. After light use (couple of calls, some email, web browsing, pictures,...) the phone was still going at the end of day two. Motorola has done a great job. Everything flows smoothly. Oh and BB had it on sale for $240. You are not going to find a better phone at that price

It's a great phone with excellent value on the hardware that it has if you have Verizon. Does not have the latest and greatest, but for $240, it can't be beat. The phone is huge, and the camera is great. Is it Pixel great? No, but who cares? Is the Snapdragon 675 the fastest chipset? No, but any normal person won't be able to tell the difference. IF you game a lot, then you might feel it lacking. For those that don't really game, it's more than adequate. The fingerprint issue is overblown. IF you follow the directions carefully and move your finger ever so slightly during the scanning portion to set your fingerprint, it'll detect your fingerprint very fast. I've had very few issues. I'd suggest making multiple fingerprints though if the it is not scanning your fingerprint. I will caution you to buy this phone at the unlocked price however. It's not a bad phone, but if you are spending $500+, the S9 and others (Oneplus 7T, Pixel 3a) are better values out there.

My wife switched from her Samsung S8+ to get away from the Samsung universe and try the moto mods. After helping her set hers up and playing with it, I picked one up to replace my Note 8.
Battery life and radio for calls are amazing, which I really missed over the last 6 years of Samsung. Phone is very fast even with a mid range processor, and the night vision pictures are great. With the current Verizon special, we added the 5G mods for $50 a phone and no extra on our bill, which was an unexpected bonus.
My only gripes would be the lack of wireless charging without a mod and it's not waterproof, since I work in wet environments.

This is my husband's phone. He upgraded from the moto z2 Force. He has no complaints about this phone. It has tons of storage, takes excellent photos, and it's lightning-fast, even a year later. It's a surprisingly good value for not being a flagship phone!
