The laptop was crazy fast and seemed to have been my dream laptop... Until I started to game. The keyboard would only register keystrokes about 20 percent of the time while in the game. I tried a fresh install of the entire computer. Problem still cobsisted and returned the laptop a few days after purchase. Its unfortunate because this laptop seems ideal for my needs.

Nothing but problems from the GET go. Terrible customer support from MSI - there were major problems with the graphics because of windows 10 updates - I'd fix the graphics drivers and Windows 10 would automatically re-apply the update and kill it again. MSI finally admitted to me they knew of the issue but never posted ANYTHING on their website which would have saved me hours and hours - I wasn't merely disappointed with this purchase, I was put in a bad spot professionally because of it. My photography clients don't care if my laptop is not working - glad I replaced it with the Alienware 17r - see my review on that bad boy, it actually works.

The problems I have experienced within 30 days of ownership. 1 sound is distorted sounds like blown speakers. It appears to be a driver issue. 2. Loaded a game which by factory settings goes to ssd filling it to maximum allowed usage. 3. ssd crashed un recoverable. Best buy tells me past 15 days I have to send to manufacture.

Do not buy MSI. Had to send it back. They had to put a new harddrive in it and it came back with the keyboard not working. They said it was shipping. Very bad. It was packed very well. Cost 300$ for nothing.

I hate to be that guy with the low review but I felt this had to be said. ** If you want to see why I gave it three stars skip this paragraph ** This is a fantastic laptop for gaming. Its GPU runs games like the Witcher 3, Overwatch, and Titanfall at 60fps at very high to ultra settings easily. Its keyboard has a nice feel, very quiet when you're typing. The display is so anti-glare that you could have the sun behind you and it wouldn't be that noticeable. The fans do get a little loud when you game but I like that because it means they're working correctly. The LED lights under the keyboard are very fun to play around with although the program that controls them is a little finnicky to start up.. Don't buy this laptop if you're going to use bluetooth to connect to speakers or headphones because I never got it to work, maybe that's just my model or windows 10's connectivity to the speaker I have. The speakers are okay, not bad not good. No bass, but the vocals were programmed to compensate. Battery life: About 1.5 hours of regular use or 1 hour of gaming, but that doesn't matter to you, if it did you wouldn't be looking for Gaming laptops. If that was the whole story I would have given 5 stars because it is an amazing laptop for playing games. The little issues at the end of that description are very minor and I couldn't care less, I bought it to game not to connect to Bluetooth :) The reason I gave it three stars: After a day of using this laptop its speakers began to crack and pop whenever vocals were introduced. Then a few hours later it became worse, so then I tried to fix it. I tried headphones, bluetooth (didn't work), then I realized that it's the drivers. Realtek.. I updated the driver, nothing. I allocated power to the CPU, and it worked for a day then it came back. So then I uninstalled and reinstalled the same driver software, and it worked for four days. Then it all of the sudden it sounded like an old kitchen radio; lots of static and the popping and cracking was back. It was awful. I tried everything to keep this laptop but how can you if it sounds this bad. (I believe I got a defective model) I would still recommend this to a friend because it was my luck that got me a defective model, and as far as I can tell a non-messed up model would be a very nice way to treat yourself if you want to play games at Full HD at 60fps on Ultra settings.

Awesome Gaming Laptop... with a little work

I was in the market for a inexpensive gaming machine that can put up with the demands of running Fallout 4 on Ultra and Battlefield 1 on Ultra graphics.. which lead me to this laptop. First things first. Replace the HDD with an SSD. There's two in this machine but the one you'd want to worry about is the 1TB one it's a 5400RPM old school platter drive which if you are using this machine for it's intended purpose is SLOW. Do your self a favor and replace it with an SSD, I recommend the Samsung EVO 850. With that out of the way, there is a good amount of bloat, which I'd recommend starting with a fresh imagine of Windows 10 if you can. I did find something that was odd, MSI included a Driver CD, however there's no CD/DVD drive with this computer... come on MSI would it have killed you to throw in a 16GB flash drive with this thing instead of including the cd? Graphics wise, it's awesome. The games I play run at 60-80FPS, there's no game that I have that can slow this thing down. This laptop may be small and lightweight, but man.. does it pack a punch when it comes to gaming. If you are looking for a lightweight gaming machine, this is it.

    Amazing Gaming Laptop

Holy smokes. It finally arrived! This laptop is absolutely killer. So, let me begin by saying how good the performance is. The Gtx 1060 is a slightly under-clocked desktop card meant for mobile laptops. I overclocked it to 2.1 GHz stable reaching temps of only 70 Degrees Celsius. Now I had returned my $1700 Asus zenbook because of it sitting at 84 degrees constant. That was the reason I got this beast, for the cooler boost trinity design. The thermals are just amazing, thats why I was able to Overclock my GPU to that level. It does get loud but I mean almost all of us gamers where headphones. I can shatter 140 Frames Per second Ultra settings in a medium game. This laptop is thin and light, but get maintain good aesthetics, and power. The back msi logo lights up white, and the keyboard is full RGB in three zones. The keyboard is very tactile and pleasant to type and game on. The audio was very nice and clear due to the hi-fi audio port. So far there has been no complaints from me regarding this laptop and thats pretty surprising. This has been my 4th laptop so let me explain: I got two surface pro 4s. The first had a flickering screen :( and the second had light bleed. My last laptop had ovrheating issues, even though it had a 960m, a very week GPU. I am pleased with this, and am not going to be returning it like the rest. I always thought MSI was one of the most over-priced but this was very reasonable. It can crush all the last series graphics laptops, even ones that can cost twice as much. MSI has made of fantastic machine.

    Solid design, save one thing.

The weight and dimensions of this model are very practical for a mobile gaming rig. The Nvidia GTX 1060 and the Intel i7 6700HQ (While not as powerful as the 6700k) will not disappoint. The display, however, leaves something to be desired. The LG LP156WF6-SPK1 panel is 250 cd/m2 with a 700:1 contrast ratio and a 45% color gamut. To put it in perspective, 70%+ gamut is really good for an LCD display and the colors are vivid, while 50%- is pretty blan and will leave you feeling like you have to look harder to distinguish things like silhouettes of other players from shadows . I don't know what other's like as far as display performance is concerned, but it's hard for me to play an FPS on this monitor. I'm going to purchase a different internal LCD, because laptop displays are cheap and this laptop is definitely worth keeping.

    Good computer but bad speakers

Overall the computer is wonderful, it runs games great, but the speakers are in my opinion pretty bad, I have had an Alienware before and it sounded amazing, but because of issues I switched to this one, the speakers sound muffled and low quality, worse than a MacBook pro's speakers. Also, the battery isn't that great either, it lasts 1 and 1/2 hours without playing a game and around only like 30-45 minutes while playing a game. It is a good computer but MSI should have worked more with the speakers and the battery.

If you bought this already and are having speaker problems: scroll down and see if what I did helps you I'm an engineering student currently and I think this laptop fits my every need. It runs CAD (computer aided design), matlab, and pretty much any other program out there. It runs really well so it fits my work needs perfectly. When I have time I also like to game so this 1060 came in really handy and plays high ends games at high to ultra high around 45-60+ fps I believe. The design of the laptop is alright, but it's a fingerprint magnet. The 3 zone keyboard lighting never fails to make it feel new and personalized. I would keep a microfiber cloth handy though. Here are some notes: Any program you download that are a large size, I would download it to the hard drive rather than the ssd. This is because the size of the ssd is rather small = 128gb-windows 10 operating size. I don't think the drivers come fully updated so do that right away. If you decide to update windows 10 to the latest version: I noticed the speakers sounded terrible after the update. It's like a crackling sound. I think it's because you have to update the nahimic 2 software or you can just delete it. That worked for me. More on the speakers: they are not great The trackpad: I think this is one of the better window trackpads I've tried. I also wouldn't compare this to a apple trackpad because I like them both equally. They provide a feel and click that I like. My trackpad stopped left clicking correctly after updating windows 10 software. I'm going to bestbuy to get this fixed or replaced since it's within 15 days. I wouldn't recommend updating to latest windows 10 update unless you really need to. Keyboard: nice key travel, perfect for me Display: I owned a 4K screen laptop for a tiny bit and it was hard to go back to 1080 but this laptop screen is rather good. It's clear and has a nice picture. The laptop runs hot when under heavy load. Using the ore installed dragon software by msi, you can change the fan settings and that helps the heat. The dragon software makes this laptop easier to use. You can change the keyboard lighting. Change the fan speed. Change battery functions. And a lot more. Battery life : under high performance setting ( for some reason ) I got the longest battery life under normal work like browsing the internet, watching videos, Microsoft office, etc I got around 3 hours max. Under heavy load like playing games it's about 45 min to an hour. I advice you to be near a outlet. Overall: awesome laptop. If anything is wrong go and get it replaced asap.

So I have only had this laptop for a day so far. But it seems to be pretty good! The computer boots up in about 10 seconds. I am a casual gamer and I wanted something simple for me to play WoW and Overwatch on my PC on a high setting. This seems to be exactly what I was looking for. I am going to have to play around with the settings a bit. Apparently NVIDIAs recommended settings for WoW are not the best to be using. Cause I was surprisingly getting just 50 fps standing in Org with the settings they gave me. I also did have my laptop screen going plus another monitor on top of the monitor I was going. So I am going to experiment a bit. But regardless, I know I will be able to play this game just fine and on a high setting which is wonderful. Basically I had a desktop built by cyber power pc, two months later and it came to me twice broken. I returned it and got this. All gaming laptops are expensive. But for what the market is right now this is a pretty good deal. The fact that I can play VR on this anywhere in my house with enough room and not be confined is a cool thing. PS the 1 TB hard drive is 5400 rpm. Was disappointed in this but apparently most laptops do this.

    Great laptop, but

The is a great laptop. First bench marks matched up with my desktop (OC'd i5 6500K, MSI GTX 970 graphics card). There were a few items that did irritate me. First off the stickers. When you open up this beautiful machine you'll be met with three stickers. A spec sticker, intel sticker, and a PC award sticker. I wouldn't mind if they weren't heavy duty stickers with lots of tough glue. Took 10 minutes and some rubbing alcohol to get all the glue off. I shouldn't have to do this on a premium priced machine. The power brick is huge, which does suck for a gaming laptop I bought to travel with. Last complaint, and this is directed at Microsoft as much as MSI. The amount of bloatware, spyware, etc is insane. I spent almost 9 hours trying to clean the machine up. Most of that was Windows 10 junk, that I had to use Powershell to remove. You'll face this with any Windows 10 machine. MSI loads so many drivers and tools, its hard to separate out, what's needed and what's excess. Again, premium priced machine should be clean and ready to rock out of the box. Lastly, I want to state again, its a good laptop, that I'd recommend and am happy I bought it.

it's a slim gaming laptop, the cooling isn't the best, it runs hot, but can you blame it? the gtx1060 is great, the i7 6700 is great and the screen is much better then i expected (ips). i upgraded the hgst HDD to a SSD so i have no spindles, just wish it was easier to access the ram and m2 ssd to upgrade those as well, but in the small form factor, i won't complain. it's a mobile gaming platform that can compete with desktops. it's not perfect but it does everything you ask it to.

I almost never come back to write a review about any purchase but I have to say if you are considering this purchase it is well worth the money. it is thin and light especially considering its specs. But wait it is not just that its thin in light, it is solid. It just feels so well put together, i don't feel like it is going to break in half. Its made of aluminum and the keyboard is also just solid. everything about it feels so well made and assembled. Then its fast, boots up in seconds, the lcd display is the best i've ever seen. (there are probably better but....) text and images are crisp and clear, you can see subtle differences in colors. then it is a power house, every game i have tried so far plays so smooth with absolutely no stuttering and video setting can be set to the highest possible setting. I have no regrets with this purchase, absolutely worth every penny. lastly normally I don't like all the added software (bloatware) added by the pc manufacturer but I actually like the additions on this system. (I only removed Norton cuz its a pain and windows has its own antivirus which i find to be all i need. highly recommended!. p.s. if you register with MSI after purchase they will add 3 months to your warranty plus i checked their promotions and got a free copy of MAFIA III through steam as well. .

It amuses me that my textbook-sized laptop is now just as powerful as my PC that's about the size of a large dog. This laptop is great if you don't want to compromise on power OR weight/form factor but don't want to break the bank. To be honest, what I really wanted was a Razer Blade, but I couldn't justify the $2,200 price. The Stealth Pro was about $700 and was a low enough price to be a no brainer. Some caveats that aren't deal breakers: - Gets super hot, but what do you expect when it's running a 1060. make sure you use a laptop riser - So much bloatware. I spent at least 30 minutes deleting all of it.
