Game Changer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a gaming laptop that would allow me to play the latest games on the go. the new GTX 10 series laptops were announced only a few months ago. I was excited to see the performance ratio to its desktop brethren. I was surprised to see that it was only roughly 2-3% drop from a desktop 1060. I have tested out Rise of The Tomb Raider on Very High - 88 FPS, Witcher 3- Ultra 44-46 FPS, Quantum Break Ultra- 56 FPS, needless to say this card can handle anything you through at it! I was even able to hook it up to 4k monitor using the thunderbolt port and had tomb raider running at 33FPS in 4k. The startup time was amazing as it takes less than 5 seconds with the 128 GB SSD . The Cpu is snappy enough to process tasks on every thing I have given it. I have been using Photoshop as well as NUKE, Corel and Unreal Game engine with no slow down or overly long processing times. The Keyboard is amazing as its a Steelseires and built with very high quality. The Screen is solid enough, images are vibrant and crystal clear allowing for a great gaming experience on the go. If your Using as a desktop replacement, I would highly suggest a great IPS/ or 4k Monitor. I would recommend this laptop to any gamer that wants desktop performance with the option to upgrade to 32GB ram in future.

Leading Edge, Few Oddities, Great Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a long time mac user, but I've also had a gaming desktop for about a year. I decided I wanted something more out of my laptop that Apple was never going to offer. After searching through laptop reviews, and gaming laptop reviews, I stumbled upon MSI's latest offering. I've had it up and running for a few days, and holistically love it, even with a few quirks. Pros: +Big beautiful bright screen +Steelseries keyboard's leds, numberpad and silentness +I like the powerbutton on the side, prevents me from hitting it when cleaning the keyboard, and is great for an external monitor. + i7-6700HQ, 16GB memory, and the 1060 are an outstanding combination. I've played some battlefield & GTA V without issues. + Fans are pretty silent, even after gaming for a while, it doesn't sound like I'm sitting over the engine of a jet. + Temps feel comfortable as well + Boot times / read & write speeds "Cons" (for what their subjectivity is worth): - Battery life (as expected from a fully loaded system this thin) - The firmness of the keyboard (coming from a Macbook its going to take some time to get used to, but writing this isn't that bad) - Location of the power port. On the right hand side isn't so bad, but being so close to the other ports and if run horizontally will be in the way of a mouse. If run around the back of the computer it's not so in the way. -Speakers sound subpar for this level laptop - The trackpad's size and location are quite annoying to me. It's right under the space bar, and wide enough that when you rest your palms, you move the mouse around as you type. --- My biggest con with this laptop is the 1tb drive. Its a mechanical drive at 5400rpm. Would have really loved an SSD. So my first thought was to upgrade it myself to a Samsung EVO 1TB, but the last screw on the bottom was covered by a "warranty void if removed" sticker. Why?

Awesome gaming notebook!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a PC gamer I was excited by Nvidia's announcement of their Pascal based GPUs and was floored when they announced their notebook counterparts matched the performance of their desktop variants within 5%. When I found out the Best Buy near my work had one of these in stock just a couple weeks after the announcement, I knew I wanted to get one to try out. I'm glad I did! Currently, the Pascal graphics processors (Titan X(P), GTX 1080, 1070, and 1060) are the fastest graphics processors for any notebook or desktop. The 1060 family is marketed to allow very high to ultra settings for 1080P gaming as well as optimization for VR. It also includes all of Nvidia's new tech such as Ansel to allow high resolution screenshots of supported games. The performance will match or perform faster than GTX 970-980 desktop based graphics cards of last generation and will trade blows with the desktop Radeon RX480, besting it in DX11 games by average of 5-10% in many titles. Basically the GTX 1060 in this machine will destroy almost every gaming laptop running the previous generation GTX 9x0M series graphics cards and trading blows with the insanely large and heavy SLI-M gpu, and desktop class GPU notebooks running the desktop variant 980. From testing, the GPU automatically overclocks up to 1911Mhz automatically due to temperature/power curve using GPU Boost 3.0 technology, which is impressive for such a thin design. Fan noise for normal usage is quite quiet but does get slightly noisy for CPU/GPU intensive tasks and gaming. The 1TB HDD included is a 7mm thick HGST 5400 RPM drive with average read/write scores of 95MB/s, 100MB/s. As for the included 128GB SSD, you're getting a basic SATA m.2 Toshiba drive with a sequential read write performance of ~ 510MB/s and 440MB/s. It's disappointing they didn't include an NVMe based SSD; but for a 128GB OS drive, I find this as an acceptable compromise due to the current high prices for large NVMe drives. However, I would strongly suggest replacing the included mechanical drive with a SSD. Load times for my modded Fallout 4 takes well over a minute give or take 30 seconds to load from Steam. Swapping out the magnetic drive with a 1TB 850 Evo is the best upgrade I can ask for on this machine! Before opening, I've verified with MSI breaking the "warranty" sticker will not void the factory warranty as long as damage was not done to the machine. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this machine besides the slow mechanical drive performance. Then again, I'm used to using SSDs on my main desktop PCs and laptops in the past. Another real complaint is the mediocre color accuracy of this display. Delta E is over 2.5 still after calibration, and even though this is an IPS panel, it's a 6-bit instead of the more common 8 bit panel. Otherwise, viewing angles are great, there's minimal to no backlight bleed, and grayscale is quite good. Overall, This machine combines the perfect size and weight with an impressively powerful GPU. Battery life timed in at 3 hours, 45 Minutes when tested using Laptop Mag's listed testing standard of 100 nits brightness and mixed wifi surfing. Dropping the brightness down to much dimmer but still easily visible allows over 4 hours run time for battery. Ultimately, I'm still in awe after close to 3 weeks of ownership of what this thin and lite machine can do!

Great Gamer's PC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop a month ago. I had researched gaming PC's for nearly three months prior to purchase. I was going to go with an Alienware model, but decided on this little gem instead. The price was lower, the specs were better, and the new and improved thermal technology made it the clear favorite for me. I've had no issues with this machine to date. It's fast, plays games flawlessly, and doesn't overheat. The battery life is the only gripe, but that's to be expected in a gaming PC, especially one with a desktop GPU. I would recommend a quality laptop cooler for gaming though.

Unbelievable laptop. Period.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a software engineer and university professor for a Computer Science department, so I am very picky about my laptop. This is the fourth MSI laptop I have owned. I started with the GT60, then the GS60, then the GE62 and finally this one. Don't get me wrong, I am by FAR not a fan boy, I had Macbooks, Lenovos, etc... but I keep iterating over MSI for I know the work they are putting in evolving and building on top the solid foundation they started developing since the GS series. I am currently writing this from my own GS63VR. Form factor wise, MSI nailed it by shrinking and polishing the GS60's design. The laptop is slim, light, edges are round and soft, palm rest is a pleasure to put your hands on, screen hinges have the perfect pressure, you name it, everything you could think of, is there. The screen is by far not flimsy, and it feels really sturdy, very premium quality. I was holding my breath on my first startup since I am a maniac of back bleed, it is a HUGE deal breaker for my. At least my unit is PERFECT. MSI corrected all the bad panels assembly they did with the GS60's panels (which by the way returned due to several problems). Quality wise, the screen could be one of the best screens I've ever laid eyes on, not to mention the software MSI provides for customizing many other system features, including color profiles, brightness etc. The keyboard is steelseries... Oh man, I will cry and cry if someday MSI moves away from steelseries. As a computer programmer, the keyboard is aother deal-breaker for me... I spend probably +12 hrs a day just typing on this thing, and should the feel is not right, it would literally make my life miserable. Ports wise, there is no way you would find yourself wanting more, 4 usbs, thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbps), HDMI full size, Ethernet, display port, mic and headphones, SD card, Kensington lock... it is just unbelievable ... I am a triple monitor user and this laptop laughs at it.... it doesn't even break a sweat. Colling is quiet, smart and very customizable. There is only 1 button, the power on, that's it! forget about all the hardware buttons form the past. Most of the features are software controlled, which brings me to the Soft. MSI puts in this thing. Usually I would rant about bloatware, but MSI has been putting a LOT of effort in a unified-system-oriented software, called the dragon center... you can do ANYTHING system wise.. keyboard, screen, fans.. everything can be controlled and customized, except for audio, which is controller by another proprietary software called Nahimic. They update version regularly, which indicates this is not a dead commercial piece of code, but that there is real effort, goals and continuity. I am not even mentioning the performance since if you are looking into this system, you know what a monster it is, hardware-wise. The GPU is a beast, the CPU is amazing, RAM is glorious and the OS on top of everything is just out of this world. Last and not least, the price will make you feel you are robbing best buy... premium laptops like Dell XPS 9550 etc.. cannot compete at this price range... when I saw the system published, I new t would sold out (as it did) in less than 2-3 days. Give it a shot, you would thank yourself for a long while. Future proof, 100%

Powerful and Beautiful, garbage speakers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this up about a month before this review. The Actual laptop is quite the looker. It is thin and light, but along with those great features this is super powerful laptop. Quick and responsive, plenty of power to run the most demanding programs. Because of the power to weight/thin ratio, the battery life severely suffers, 2.5-4 hours on average. The biggest issue is the on board speakers, for some reason the left speaker is super tinny and sounds blown out. Apparently this may be a software issue, but they still haven't fixed it, if ever. MSI actually told me to return it. Quite annoying. I've noticed forums and youtube videos of owners who have the exact same issue. Plug in headphones and things sound great though. For the price, this is a pretty sweet device, but it has some major setbacks also for the price.

My wife loves it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife uses it for gaming and it is a great laptop for that. She plays Ark Survival Evolved at max settings just fine. Being the stealth model it is very thin and light, which makes her gaming very comfortable, but the lack of I thermal space means it does generate some heat. Not taking any stars off for that, that's the trade-off for this type of model, but the use of a desk or lap desk is essential.
