Great Gaming Laptop for Students

This laptop hits the mark in almost every way. If you're a traveler or student who likes to game, this laptop is for you! With its powerful i7 10750 Intel processor and 32GB of memory, it can handle memory intensive programs and multitasking with ease. At a weight of only 5.2 pounds, this is very light considering the power that's packed inside.
For games, it has a MAX-P 2070 Super GPU, which is crushing every game I've thrown at it with maxed out graphics settings at 1080p. 200+ FPS in Doom Eternal and Rainbow Six Siege. 120+ FPS in Modern Warfare Warzone (RTX off) and Grand Theft Auto V. The 240Hz IPS screen helps you experience every frame with buttery smoothness. It has an HDMI and DisplayPort output on the back if you want to set yourself up at a desk with an external monitor.
The 1TB NVMe SSD drive is adequate, but with game sizes getting even bigger these day, (Modern Warfare is a whopping 200+GB) you really need to have more space. Thankfully there is a 2nd NVMe slot that you can install another SSD in to expand your internal storage later on if you want to! This does require you to take the bottom of the laptop off though, but is easily done with only a few screws. There are also 3 USB 3.2 ports on either side of the laptop that you could plug an external drive in to.
The build quality and cooling is excellent so far. The laptop seems really sturdy, and looks great too! The customizable RGB lightbar and keyboard can add some more flair to it, but can be turned off if you're a student in class looking to be more discrete. The fans can get a bit loud when they really start to ramp up, but aren't noticeable if you're wearing headphones. This would be distracting to others in a class, but you can change the fan profile to "silent mode" in MSI Dragon Center if you need to. The built in speakers could sound better, but I mostly use headphones for my audio, especially due to the fans.
This laptop has a 99.9Wh battery in it. This is the largest battery you can have and still take it on an airplane. With Hybrid Graphics Mode enabled in Dragon Center, and other power saving options enabled, you can get about 5+ hours off the battery with light use (no gaming).
Overall I'm really happy with this laptop so far. I was looking at many different brands, and I'm glad I decided to go with this MSI. I would say you get the most for your money with this model's configuration at this price point.

Extremely Powerful Laptop with Great Portability

Purchased this laptop for my first semester of college in September. Needed a laptop that was powerful for computer science requirements of the college and a laptop that offered decent portability for those specs. This laptop fits both criteria. This laptop features a 10th gen intel core i7-10750H, a full sized GTX 2070 Super and 32gb ram with a 1tb ssd. Out of the box, the laptop was an easy setup. The exterior-design of this laptop makes it one of the best-looking laptops on the market. The silver-black design with the metallic dragon shield MSI logo gives the laptop quite a fancy look. The keyboard is excellent for a laptop and it features steel-series software for customization of LED lights which can also customize the LED bar in the front (and yes, the LED bar and the keyboard lights can be turned completely off.) For games, this laptop can run most games at the highest settings with pretty amazing frame-rate. The fan can get loud sometimes but that isn't surprising considering this laptop features a full sized NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER instead of a max-q design. Temperatures on this laptop are also pretty good for a laptop with temperatures laying around the 80 degree range on max-performance.
Overall, the price of $2,199.99 for this laptop model is a steep price but if you decide to purchase this laptop you'll likely be happy with what you have recieved and the power it has to offer.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this laptop. I started having issues on day one. Games kept crashing and I eventually ended up with multiple blue screen errors, making the computer basically unusable. I tried resetting to factory setting and reinstalling Windows 10. I eventually ended up contacting NVIDIA and Microsoft and it turns out I had a bad GPU. Had to return it. Games ran very smoothly on high settings for the brief period of time it actually worked. Guess I just got a lemon?

Excellent Introduction to gaming laptops

This laptop delivers on all fronts. The 1 TB SSD is just big enough, the ram, always essential, is double most laptops in this price range. Screen is crisp and bright, with no glare. The Nvidia 2070 Super RTX is a beast of a video card. Numerous I/O. This does have a webcam and thunderbolt port, as well as the listed usb/sd reader/hdmi. The bells and whistles (rainbow backlit keys, enhanced audio, software to tweak the machine out) are all well made and high quality. I did pair this with a USB audio interface as i do music production as well. This will handle full symphonies of virtual instruments without a stutter. Gaming, It has handled everything i've thrown at it on ultra settings. It will get hot, but every laptop does, and the fans do an excellent job of removing the heat. The only other caveat i would express is that the fans can be loud. As portability is a factor, as i take this from an office to a studio location, the weight and size are perfect.

It’s not three moths old and the screen detached itself from the frame, I visited the store where I bought it they told me that they could do anything, that was physical damage which is not true as you can see in the photos, that I had to pay to send it to the manufacturer and from their experience they were not going to cover the damage.

Let's get the obvious out of the way: this laptop is a monster when it comes to gaming performance. Every game I've thrown at it, including some of the latest releases, have performed near flawlessly with maximum settings and framerates exceeding 100fps.
For me, this is my first experience with a monitor that exceeds the standard 60hz refresh rate. To say the difference is noticeable would be an understatement. The 240hz refresh rate of this monitor makes it difficult to go back to gaming on a television for me, even on a large screen.
The chassis is sturdy and attractive. The keyboard is responsive and I like the touch pad. The RGB lighting was not something I had any interest in when making this purchase, however it is a nice plus and I've actually grown to appreciate the light bar.
I need to briefly touch on the negative aspects; things that any potential buyer needs to be aware of. First and foremost, headphones are, in my opinion, a must. The speakers on this laptop are by far some of the worst sounding I've ever heard, and I'm comparing to 300 dollar range Walmart brand laptops. That's probably a given if you are buying a gaming laptop, but it needs to be pointed out regardless. You won't be using this to watch Netflix at the dinner table with family.
The battery. The battery is a joke despite being 99.9 WH capacity. Don't expect to be going too far without an outlet nearby even on lower battery saver modes. But, again, you're buying a gaming laptop, right? This is again probably already a given.
Let's talk about heat. This laptop will get hot while gaming. With stock settings I was reaching the thermal throttling limit of 95c within 10 minutes of Destiny 2 gameplay and performance mode turned on. Despite what I've read about how this design is made to keep the gaming experience cool, I wasn't seeing any of that out of the box. You will unquestionably need to play around with your setup (cooling pad helps) and potentially some underclocking/undervolting to get temperatures at a range you feel comfortable with. Even for complete novices, a simple google search will help you in this regard and it's no big deal. Still, it needs to be pointed out.
In all, I am rating this laptop at 5 stars because it sets out to do gaming without any compromises as a result of being portable, and I feel it accomplishes that goal handily. If you are looking for a system that you can load up anything from your Steam library and crank the settings to ultra without thinking twice about it, then this is the system for you.
However, if you are looking for a multi-purpose system, perhaps for a broader scope of multimedia use or for work/school, I don't think this is the laptop you're going to want to invest in.

I was looking to upgrade my laptop after 5 years, I spent the better part of 2 months pouring over current laptop and laptop components. I did a fair amount of research in that time, and an IT professional of sorts.
I wanted something light, and reasonably professional looking so I could still use it at work without drawing attention.
The light bar on the front can be turned off, and the key board back lighting can be set to white. I've run every game I have on ultra settings, and even the useless stuff set to ON.
You'll probably get better performance out of this for gaming alone with an i7 vice a i9 (FYI), and there's still enough resources to have a massive game running, browser, MS Office, Steam, Discord, other random apps, etc.
Arma3 is CPU heavy, at least 90 FPS on 1080 ultra.
Squad is GPU heavy, same thing.
Star Citizen is both, same thing.
Haven't even overclocked anything.
The 32Gb of ram is overkill.
It gets fairly warm and kinda noisy under load, like a microwave running. All laptops of this profile are going to do that. I'm personally not bothered buy it. As I type it's completely silent, and cool. If you're going to game, you're probably going to wear a headset anyways. Those around you most likely are watching Netflix or whatever so they won't notice either. If you're in a quiet office you probably won't be playing games anyways. I digress.
Standard use the battery will run approximately 4 hours. I watched a movie on it in silent power save mode and still did some general browsing.
One aspect I'm not stoke about is how not-bright the screen is even when brightness is maxed, it's still exceptionally good in visual fidelity, and I can see it just fine here at home, but I have a feeling outside in direct sunlight it would be nearly impossible to see. However, it's hard to imagine someone casually using this laptop outside in direct sun light...
Overall, I couldn't be happier. It does everything I wanted and more, I am pleasantly surprised after a month of consistent use. And best of all, I didn't drop $4000 on some goofy alternative.

I have had a GS75 stealth for the last 6 months, I really loved the laptop. But it had issues, and once the 2070 super laptops were announced I had to give it ago.
I started shopping around, NOTHING comes close to these specs for the price. I cant find any other gaming laptop that comes with a 1tb NVMe and also 32gb ram, also the 200hz screen is awesome.
I have thrown every game I can at it, everything runs amazing. At first I was surprised my benchmarks were lower then I actually thought they should be, however come to find out I was in battery saver mode, which really does its job. Once I switched to extreme performance mode it just beat everything. Here are the pros and cons:
- Pros
- 300hz screen
- 10th gen i7
- 32gb ram base (also the ram is accessible very easily, just under a hatch, the GS75 you had to take the motherboard out first)
- 99whr battery is fantastic, with battery saver on I am getting about 6 hours currently
- the 2070 super is a fantastic card, I installed Death Stranding and cracked everything up to max settings and still getting 150+ FPS
- Very solidly built, nothing feels cheap or flimsy
- Per key RGB, and the RGB stripe across the front is awesome looking, really flashy
- Cons
- no 10 key, it is quick to get over it, but I would love to have it
- still only 1080p and not AMOLED like some other ones out there
- There are two m.2 slots on the mainboard, one is SATA or NVMe and that one is the one that is populated, and the other is NVMe only. They should have populated the other slot to make upgrades easier.
- No windows hello / fingerprint reader
-
What's interesting is my gut said to give it 5 stars, and then I dropped it to 4 since I do have some cons. But I couldn't do that, I had to change it back to 5. I would say if anything its 4.5 stars

I bought this laptop because I needed a new laptop for school and gaming. My old laptop is an Asus ROG Strix gl502 which I got years ago and has served me very well. My Asus still works but it is getting outdated and had semi-frequent crashes. Because of this, I figured it was time for an upgrade.
Long story short, the MSI GE66 Raider is phenomenal. The screen's refresh rate is impressive to say the least, and the graphics card in this laptop is incredibly good. The laptop's build is high quality except for its speakers, which are still decent.
Frankly, I like the design of this laptop overall. I thought that the lights would annoy me at times, but has not been the case. If they do ever bother me, they are able to be changed or turned off in the settings. Furthermore, I plan on using this laptop for both school and games which is why I chose it over, a similarly priced Alienware because it has more storage with similar specs.
This laptop is very powerful and it has been a pleasure to use so far. The fps I get in games varies with the intensity of the graphics. In low graphic intensity games such as fortnite, I get an fps of >120 when turned to max graphics. On more graphic intensive games such as Rust, I still get above 100 fps on max settings which is very impressive.
The only thing that I can see being an issue is the fans on this laptop. They become quite loud at times when running games on max settings which is understandable. While they are loud, they are not deafening and do not bother me too much because I wear headphones when playing games.
All in all, I heavily recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a powerful gaming laptop that looks beautiful and has adequate storage.

I love my laptop and have had it for 4 years already. The only issue that I have with it is, that it gets hot and it’s starting to heat up the border on the screen. Unfortunately after gaming for a couple hours, I tuned off my laptop and closed it causing it to pop on the side of the screen. No, I didn’t slam it or anything. The heat is warping the screen. It’s a gaming laptop. I did see another review here that had a similar issue as well. I do love my laptop and the Esthetic. But because of the thinness of it, my gaming is sort of melting my laptop.

I started with an MSI GS-66 and had used that for about 3 years. From my experience i've been using MSI for a while now and its one of the best gaming laptop companies in my opinion. So I decided I wanted to upgrade to MSI GE66 10SFS. And the prince range was great for me. This is the best laptops i've ever seen. It has a super fast graphics card so it's great with big games and schoolwork. The aurora lighting around it is very creative. The keyboard is very comfortable when typing. And the trackpad is very smooth. The port locations are in great placement when i'm connecting my gaming setup. The performance of this laptop is absolutely incredible and thats why I love the raiders MSI makes. The fan on this is great on cooling the computer and this makes sense cause this is one of the most performant models. Some people may say they don't need a E GPU cause of the high graphics card inside but its great cause there it is. There is an Ethernet port on the back and a audio plug s/pdif. The sound goes great throughout the computer and when using headphones. The charger is rectangular which is great when plugging it into the back so it doesn't get in the way when gaming. There are different options of which gaming graphics you want to use either the dedicated graphics or Nvidia Optimus. The 240Hertz for this laptop is overkill. The battery lasts for a good amount of time amazingly.

*Summary* : An incredibly flexible gaming machine crammed into a relatively small package! Few, if any flaws. Use Cases: 3D Printing & Modeling, 1080p Gaming, Valve Index VR Gaming (high-to-ultra settings at a smooth 90Hz), Surfing the internet
----------------------
*CPU Performance* : The 10750h packs a wallop for a 6-core, 12-thread processor. it easily chews through complex assemblies in AutoDesk programs with minimal lag time, and I've remodeled several parts and assemblies for home use on it. It's nowhere near as snappy as a dedicated CAD machine, but it does the job well. Games run extremely well, load and run without stutters, and I've had little to no issue with any applications hanging up. This is the foundation upon which MSI has built its new church - pragmatic GRUNT for anything but heavy A/V editing/rendering, and better efficiency than most anything else you'll find on the market. If you want a laptop for Creative projects, get a "Creator"-line series from MSI.
*GPU Performance* : The 2070 Super... where do I begin? This is basically a miniature 2080 refresh. The 240Hz screen comes in handy because I'm pushing over 120fps regularly in any pre-2018 game which makes for an incredible experience on all but the latest AAA titles. It's not future-proof for the next decade, but it's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease - heck, it even keeps a maxed out, unoptimized behemoth like Star Citizen above 50FPS at all times. Imagine a more optimized game!
*RAM Performance* : 32GB is future-proof for at least the next 5 years if not longer. It's stable, 3200MHz memory. It'll keep up just fine.
*Storage* : 1TB SSD isn't bad in this day and age, but you'll definitely want to install extra storage (there's an extra m.2 NVME slot!) or keep large files on an external drive.
*Thermal Performance* : Stock thermal performance isn't bad. I was able to avoid throttling performance issues with a -140mV undervolt [in ThrottleStop] and a fresh repaste with TG Kryonaut. CPU hasn't pushed past 85C under max bench, and the GPU hasn't even broken 70C under any load, bench, or game I put it through. A repaste (and that extra storage I mentioned earlier) is essential to make this thing perfect and thankfully...
*Upgradeability* : is a breeze. RAM and SSD's are both easily removed and replaced and you have a total of two m.2 slots & 2 SO-DIMM slots for RAM. I believe the most you can run on this motherboard is 64GB, but honestly the stock RAM config will outlast the life of most laptops and the CPU/GPU long before it becomes obsolete.
*Keyboard* : Fantastic! The switch is hefty enough to avoid accidental presses, but not so hefty as to make you tired. Low-range which means you can actuate the key quickly and the layout mirrors most standard 15 inch laptops with the exception of an oversized Lft-CTRL (which I like). Steelseries lighting is absolutely on point and the effects with the engine are a lot of fun to customize.
*Battery Life* : I get about a maximum of 4 hours on idle/light usage, 9+ hours on Standby/Sleep, and 1.5 hours under heavy usage. It's a big battery which does add weight, but it's WONDERFUL if you're on-the-go and just need something that has the stamina to keep you running long enough to find an outlet.
*Sound* (lol) : Get a headset or a 5.1 System. Only an imbecile would rule out a gaming laptop purchase decision because of something as inconsequential as 2-Watt speakers lol. Come on TechRadar - seriously?
*Helpful Features*: SD Card slot is wonderful for 3D printing! The lightbar comes in handy in MMO/FPS games where you can use SteelSeries Engine 3 to map health and energy/mana/ammo to your lightbar.
*Overall Build Quality* : Plastic & Aluminum Construction are used well here. It keeps the weight down without sacrificing a nice, premium feel in all of the right places. Truthfully, I would have reduced the wall thickness of the plastic LED lightbar cover by about 0.1mm to better align it with the rest of the chassis along the face, but that's a meaningless nitpick. The hinges on this thing are tough and allow for a one-handed open from the desk without too much pressure or too little sticking power.

This machine has been a dream to use. I've loved gaming my whole life and wanted something that I could use to step into the PC world. With me being a soon to be student again I couldn't afford to build a desktop AND get a computer for school so I chose to grab this and this will absolutely be more than enough for what ill need. I've been able to run all my games with no issue at maxed settings. The 240hz display really gives everything an elegant and smooth look and runs incredible. Dragon center allows you to customize your experience and optimize your PC to your situation whether you're in a quiet coffee shop writing for school, or need to push it to the limits for your online matches. Not to mention, the design of computer itself is very nice and clean. Made with aluminum casing, it gives a strong sturdy feel to it which is my preference when it comes to nice electronics. I am not a fan flimsy "cheap" stuff. The keyboard and light bar give it a pretty cool touch to tie everything together. I am glad I chose to spend a little more for the nicer option because it truly exceeded all my expectations and is something ill be using for years to come. Thank you MSI!

MSI has been the only computer that I haven't destroyed while gaming. Sony, Dell, HP, and Acer are all computer manufacturers that I have had in the past that did not survive. I bought a GE62 2QD in 2015 and was impressed by it and it has lasted all this time. I decided that it was time to get a new computer so that I could continue to play the latest games.
Compared to the GE62, which is also a 15.6" laptop, the overall width is smaller. The number keypad is taken away and the keyboard is moved more center, meaning that there is more bezel in the keyboard area. But the narrower profile means there is less bezel in the screen. I like having the keypad, but it isn't a deal breaker not to have it. The thinness is about the same, possibly due to the huge battery that is in the GE66. Speaking of the battery, I suspect that the battery makes this noticeably heavier, but it does last a long time. I played Borderlands 3 on the highest settings and after 2 hours of playing, I had about a third of the battery left.
The trackpad feels and looks a lot like the macbook trackpad, just one square with hidden clickers underneath. The screen I can lift from closed without the computer being moved or lifted up, so that's a nice plus.
The keyboard's LED-per-key system is really nice. I have it set up so that when I play certain games, only the keys that I use light up automatically. And there is a lot of different options that you can do. Same goes for the light bar, which I am still on the fence of whether I like it or not.
The hardware and cooling are excellent. I am able to play Borderlands 3 on the highest settings and it keeps it fairly cool even with the extreme cooling not on. Personally I always play with the extreme cooling on, but I can see how the noise is a little loud for some people. The fan exhaust is also a little different with the vents in the back and on the side, so maximum hot air can get out.
Overall I like this computer and I can see it lasting another 5 years and keep on running just like my old GE62

I've been using this laptop for almost 2 weeks now. The performance is fast, reliable, and very fast. The fan can go from absolute silence to a loud but not as bad as I thought (Cooler Boost 5). My only concern was the overheating because I tried the MSI GS66 Stealth and it got way too hot over the keyboard. I'm happy to say that the GE66 Raider does not have that issue. The keyboard works fast, the RGB Keyboard is beautiful and I actually like the Aurora on the front with it's customization. Overall, a great laptop with the RTX 2070 Super Graphics Card. This version of it came with 1 TB NVMe SSD which was way worth it. Again, if you're thinking of a laptop with 1TB SSD around this price range, this is the laptop for you!

Monster of a Gaming Computer

I was looking for a laptop computer with the power to handle both graphics intensive games and live streaming. This monster has the power and capacity to handle it all easily. It looks beautiful with RGB. The large keyboard is excellent for typing and the screen, just wow. Speed and Memory, there as well. Build is very solid. This is functionally a desktop laptop. It's not that the laptop itself is that heavy, though it isn't particularly light either, but the power adapter is massive. A huge 280w adapter, the largest out there, needed to power all of the awesomeness of this computer, including the 2070 Super graphics card which gives you as good graphics as you really could want and allows the maximizing of a 240hz gaming monitor. That power supply is also helpful to power multiple external USB devices needed for high quality live streaming.
