This steel-book version of the movie looks really good in person and I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I know I’m going to like it.

Still my favorite Ghibli film after all these years and looks stunning on bluray

I love the movie but the review is on the steelbook. The one I received had a dent in the top and upon talking to customer service, I was essentially told that I can’t return it. Would have really loved to have given this 5 stars. The dent can be seen in the top left corner in the picture for verification

I know that TECHNICALLY this isn't a Studio Ghibli film as it was created before the studio was formed, but I'll always consider it one and one of the very best at that. One of my favorite animated films that still holds up more than 30 years later

Many of you may be wondering the same thing I was when these releases hit stores. Are these Blu-rays an upgrade over the Disney releases? They are, in my opinion. However, are they worth purchasing again? Probably not. But, for hardcore fans, maybe. Here's why. First, picture quality. GKIDS has completed new 4K scans for these Blu-rays. In my opinion, it shows. The image is a bit cleaner. The details and colors do differ in some respects from the Disney releases. In comparing some scenes from Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke, I prefer the GKIDS releases. Is it a huge difference? No. But it is there. The reds are more intense and look red, not orange. And in Nausicaaa, the colors differ in scenes from the Disney Blu-rays. Actual color grading differences. Plus, the GIDS releases have more shadow details. The packaging and presentation on these releases tops Disney's with ease. The slipcovers are beautiful, with many of the releases using the same artwork as previous releases, with some exceptions, like Princess Mononoke. I also prefer the Nausicaa art here over Disney's. Each release is in a quality keepcase (not eco case) with art inside the back cover, so that when you open the case, you see a beautiful image from the film. The discs have art on them as well. I prefer the design on the GKIDS discs over Disney's, although, the Disney DVDs sometimes had very nice art as well. Lastly, the GKIDS releases also come with a small booklet that has some art and words from the creators behind the films. The menus on the GKIDS releases fall short of the Disney releases. They are not animated. There is no music. But, they are clean and simple. It would have been nice to have at least had music playing in the background like the Disney releases. Some releases include new extras. Many, if not all, extras from the Disney releases are ported over, but some may not be HD, as is the case on Nausicaa. As you can see from the descriptions, the Disney dubs are ported over to these releases as well. Plus, you get Japanese audio tracks, although, I have not confirmed if these are the original Japanese audio tracks, as I know that was a problem on some previous releases. Overall, I prefer the GKIDS Blu-rays, but if you have the Disney releases, you probably should save your money. However, if you're like me and you love the films and want the best presentation possible (video and packaging) and you find them on good sale, like they were on release at Best Buy, then it may be worth it to you.

Slowly but surely, my Ghibli library is filling out. I love these releases by GKIDS. They are doing these films justice by releasing them with the supplemental material that the U.S. edition of the Ghibli Collection lacks!

This is a great movie my girlfriend showed me this when we where just friends on DVD and now we watch it again dating on blue ray and it looked amazing the color and detail

This is one of my favorite anime movies and set the industry standard along with Akira. Cool story, great action, with a real message about taking care of our planet.

You cannot go wrong with any of the Miyazaki movies. Beautiful animation and a tone that is sure to make an Impression. My family treasures all of them!

This movie has great animation. I would definitely recommend watching this movie. I love the fact that it also has a little bit of fore shadowing in it as well.

My son bought this movie and after watching it with him, it was interesting. I'm not much of a fan of anime, but the story was catching.

It's a Ghibli movie, so if you've seen one and enjoyed it, there is a very high chance you're most likely going to enjoy this one as well. Wish it had music on the title screen like the Disney releases (Love Howl's Moving Castle music). Pick it up and add to your collection.

This was an interesting story and well put together. If you can get this at a reasonable price it'll be worth it.

Can look a bit grainy and stretched due to its age but overall the jump to blu-ray makes it worth the rewatch!

This is a great and sometimes under-appreciated movie, thematically it feels similar to Princess Mononoke.

This is another awesome Studio Ghibli movie that teaches tolerance and standing up for what is right.

Adorable and frightening with an ever urgent modern message i simply just love this movie. Must watch!

My son wanted this Bluray for Christmas. Easy to order and shipped right to the house.

Not only is the movie good (this is the uncut version) but the transfer looks great in HD.
