Best present 2015 for a busy mum

Best Christmas present 2015. we run it almost everyday in a house about 2800 sqf, two storeys. No issue bringing him up and down. Although, once it was confused with the routes it automatically preset in its chip... got us worried but it was temporary. The "work" is in cleaning the dustbin which needed to be emptied every day or two when we run it. Cleaning the filter took me about 20-30 mins each time (i hated it) until i read on Amazon review someone posted about using toilet paper over the filter. Worked like a charm!! Now, the dirt and fuzz balls are capture BEHIND the tissue instead of being stuck on the filter. so, no more combing and brushing since. My filter is clean every time i empty the dustbin, although i imagine the small particles not visible to the naked eye is caught by the fine HEPA filter (i hope!). The photo on right shows all the tools ever needed to keep this baby clean. Keeping it clean is important to prevent the complaints of breakdowns and poor performance you hear others talking about. The photo on left shows the tissue in place. I use kitchen towel and trim around the corners after i fit the tissue and slide the filter into the dustbin. The photo shows on one side the excess before trimming. we did buy the $50 insurance for two years from Geek Squad. i dont ever want it to break down and am very careful with taking care of it but if it does, Best Buy says they will replace it. Peace of mind.

We LOVE this. I was overwhelmed with how much I have to clean at home, I'm OCD so I bought this. I thought my house was clean but I was wrong. We have 2 kids & 2 dogs. It picks up so much dust, dirt, & hair it fills the entire dirt tray. Nasty stuff when my floor was supposedly clean. I highly recommend. It maps out your floorplan and doesn't bump into anything unlike the Roomba. Most times its flawless but sometimes it says theres something in the way when there isn't, mostly it acts dumb when the battery is low. This is no biggie to me compared to how clean it leaves my floors.

    What an excellent machine

TL/DR: Excellent unit, glad we bought it. I had a Roomba many years ago. It did fine, but after a couple of moves and a period of disuse, I fired it up again and it died immediately due to gear failure. My family was disappointed, so when I started looking at robotic vacuums again my wife made it very clear that she did not want another Roomba. I did my research online, and became very interested in the Neato product line, particularly the D80. Luckily I had some Best Buy coupons available, and was able to get the unit and Geek Squad coverage (essential for a complex product such as this) for less than four hundred dollars including tax. Since owning it for bout three weeks, my impression is one of amazement. This vacuum: - Navigates so much better and smarter than my old Roomba. - Works as quietly as a vacuum cleaner. - Finds it's way back to the charging dock and resumes cleaning where it left off 99% of the time. - Can get stuck, but once it learns the house it seems to get stuck less frequently. Perhaps I am just picking up the fringe rugs and flat dog toys more. Laid the magnetic strip around the Christmas tree skirt. - Picks up so much carpet fuzz it's ridiculous. It's a good thing, otherwise that fuzz would be getting on everything. - Requires constant "bag" emptying when first using it. Now it is picking up mostly pet hair, stray pet food, stray cat litter, dust, etc. and requires it less. - Can work itself out of many sticky situations, it's awesome. All in all this unit has changed our family's perception about how good a robotic vacuum can be - and how it was definitely a purchase worth making. Vacuuming and mopping will still be a part of our lives, but this little fellow takes on the daily task like a champ. I will update this review as time goes on but for now it is doing very well. Our house is approx 1300 feet per floor, and we move it between floors as needed. It typically requires a few hours for the unit to complete a floor with one recharge period. I will add one downside. After two weeks of daily use the beater brush bearing has frozen. This resulted in the unit locking up and asking for assistance. Luckily Neato included a second "blade" brush to use while Neato sorts out the repair details. The caveat to this unique repair situation is that Neato treats three items as consumables that do not fall under repair warranty: - Battery - Filter - Brushes I understand that these items (brushes beating against carpet etc.) will wear out over time and will be consumed by normal use. However, the bearing in Neato's brush is as much a mechanical part as a fan bearing, and should be a lifetime-commercial-grade bearing. A replacement brush is forty dollars so although they are sending a replacement, I worry that a less customer-centric response in the future will be that this part is a consumable and not covered under warranty should it happen again. I won't "throw the baby out with the bath water" over this now, but it definitely requires a clarification that the bearings should fall under Neato's standard warranty. Thanks for reading. I hope you find the robot you are looking for and this should be a top candidate. I look forward to your questions or comments.

I love my neato. I actually got it for my husband for Christmas because all he wanted was a vaccum. (He has an obsession with clean floors) We've owned many a robo vaccum before this one and this is by far the best. After our roomba would be finished cleaning it looked like a drunk person had vacuumed and many spots were missed. After our neato is done (we named him Walli) there is not a spot untouched. Each time he vaccumes his mapping system learns more about the layout of our apartment and becomes more effient. He can also go from hardwood to carpet with out any trouble or damage to the wood. He also powers himself back to the charger and let's us know when his bin needs emptied. He goes under and around furniture, just be careful of curtains. He sucks up our dog hair and mine as well. (My hair is very long and sheds often haha) I have no complaints this far about the vacuum. You do want to schedule it when your not home because it makes hearing the television or music difficult. Well worthwhile buy, we have white carpets and our friends ask how they still look new. It's all because of Walli.

Picked up the Botvac D via bestbuy.com Friday delivery was quick and reached my house Monday morning. Tested the botvac on our first floor and was able to clean the entire space on 1 charge roughly 2000 square feet. Went into each room and closets without any troubles, Was shocked by how much dirt was on our floor especially when we ran our Dyson the day prior. Very impressed with this model, it is quiet for a vacuum and effiecient in cleaning. Would definitely recommend this product to all my friends and family

This thing works, and considering every outing it fills the waste container, I guess my only complaint is that I would have to empty the container every day. I have two cats, and one is a longhair, but I had no idea that if you vacuumed every day, you'd get the same amount every day. So it works, and the guidance system is probably one of the best as it was very thorough, and mathotical at navigating. Suction is obviously good enough, so now the only issue is how often you have to empty the container. I think I'm going to have to return it and order one that empties itself automatically, and maybe one that can run twice a day whereas this one can only be programmed to go once a day.

I purchased this item in an attempt to keep our main living area clean. Our main living area consists of our living room, dining room and kitchen. The living room has wall to wall carpet, the rest of the area is hardwood flooring. We have a German Shepherd, so the main issue is dog hair. Of course the dining area has a pretty good sized table and six chairs. I thought this was going to be trouble, so I kept a couple of chairs pulled away from under the table, in the hope the unit would be able to clean the area, or at least not get stuck. The magnetic strip they give you works well, as we have 2 bedrooms and a bathroom we don’t want the robot to clean. To my surprise the robot does very well at getting around things and cleaning, the dog hair once a daily eyesore, is no longer an issue, and even the carpet looks good. I don’t know how well the unit deep cleans the carpet yet, as I have not felt the need to use our regular vacuum cleaner. The key is not to leave socks or other small items that the robot could run over and get stuck on, or pull into the brush. It has gotten stuck occasionally, but not a big deal. I scheduled it to run at 12:30am. It is fairly quiet, and finds its way back to its dock quite well. I empty the bin every morning, and so far I have a much cleaner house with a lot less effort than before. It has met all my expectations.

Vacuums very well, does a very good job where there are no interruptions. I usually clear the way for the robot to work. The robot gets stuck in two different situations: 1. where the chairs have shiny base - the robot can't identify them and tries to clean on top. It usually get stuck under my swivel chair, and unfortunately, I can't remove it since it is heavy. I even tried to put the magnetic stripe to prevent it from getting stuck but it is still not helpfull. 2. where furniture has a lot of legs - the robot will try to get to every corner and may get stuck. For example, we have a dining table with 4 chairs. The robot tried to navigate between the legs instead of navigate around them. It was able to get to the center but was not able to get out Other than that the robot is doing a great job, cleaning the apartment pretty well. I picked this one since we have wall to wall carpets in most of the living areas and this one had the best reviews for carpets.

We upgraded from our BotVac XV series to the D80. We're a bit disappointed with the upgrade. Our XV was able to clean our entire main floor (including maneuvering effortlessly on our area rug) and return to its base to charge all while we were at work. The D80 series constantly gets stuck on our area rug or gets lost on its way back to charge. We're currently working with Neato customer service about our issues with the D80. Some of the troubles it has on our rug may be caused by the increased suction that the D80 has. On the plus side, the D80 does pick up a lot!

We've named her "Rosie" ... she gets stuck every once in a while, but my floors have NEVER looked so good. She finds her way around the house and doesn't miss anything. We live in Arizona where dust is a daily nightmare. I have her scheduled for Mon-Wed-Fri and find that is sufficient to keep our floors near spotless. Every day, the dust bin is just full, so I know she is doing a GREAT job!!

I own a Neato Botvac D80 and a iRobot Roomba 770, and out of the two, the Neato Botvac D80 is the far superior device. One of the main features of the D80 that I prefer over the 770 is the room scanning feature. This allows the D80 to very systematically and methodically clean each room it goes to. The Roomba 770 has a very simple navigation system whereby it just runs randomly through a room. This room scanning technology also allows the D80 to return to its dock if its battery is low, and then resume back in the same spot once the battery is charged again. If it stopped vacuuming in a different room than where the dock is, it will still find its way back to the dock and find its way back to that room after it charges. Both the D80 and the 770 are comparable in terms of their ability to pick up dust and pet hair, but the D80 does feel like it has a more powerful vacuum, which you can feel from the exhaust out the back. Since the D80 will scan the room, it is also gentler on thinner chair legs, while the Roomba 770 will tend to blindly bang into them, causing small scratches and nicks each time. The one area where the Roomba does better is with obstacles. It can easily get stuck in some places, like if you have a stool with a sloped base. It doesn't try to back up off the stool, and will just get stuck there. This is the main reason why I didn't give it 5 stars. If you don't have furniture that it can get partly stuck on, or if that furniture is easily moved or blocked off with the included strips, then you should be fine. At this price point, I would definitely recommend the Botvac D80 over a similarly priced iRobot Roomba.

I chose this particular brand because my mother-in-law received a similar model as a present a short while ago. She allowed my wife and I to try it out in our home. It worked so well that we decided we really needed one ourselves. The D80 seemed just the thing for our needs. It has proven to be the perfect choice. No “connectivity issues” to complicate things, it cleans really well, the battery life is outstanding and the large dust-bin, robust rotary brush and super-efficient filter is “just the ticket”! We love it!

My wife and I purchased the Neato D80 to help keep the floors clean between when we would thoroughly clean the house. Our main problem currently is dog hair and occasional dirt/sand. Our stand up vacuum couldn't pick up the dog hair on hard surfaces, so that was a concern buying this vacuum. After the first cleaning our worries were quickly stifled as this vacuum performed above our expectations. What we like: You can schedule cleaning (whole house or spot cleaning) to start at your preferred time schedule for 1 to 7 days a week. You can also tell it to clean spontaneously through it's on board screen. It transitions seamlessly between carpet and hard floors. The squared front end allows it to clean corners easier than completely round models. The side brush allows it to clean along objects and walls well. The impact sensor on the front is set just right to where it won't move or damage anything in the house. It seems to clean every nook and cranny it can reach. Easily fits under most furniture. This little robot cleans better than our upright on both carpet and hard floors. It has a removable dirt collection tray that makes for easy cleaning of the robot. What we don't like: Although the navigation system is good most of the time, occasionally it will get stuck and will ask you to clear its path. If you move it from its location it won't know where it is at and will bump into everything on its way back to base( which is actually quite funny to watch). Sometimes I have to carry it back to base because it gets completely lost. Only had to do that a handful of times. The collection bin is small compared to an upright vacuum. It cleans the level of our house that is about 1400 square feet with one bin no problem, but we also have it clean 5 days a week. A house with more dirt being tracked in may require the bin to be emptied more frequently. We are not a fan of the noise of the machine. It can be loud if it is in the same room as you. It can't be louder than any upright vacuum though. I recommend you set its cleaning schedule to when you are gone. I don't like the replaceable paper/ fabric filter, solely for the fact that I have to purchase replacements. I wish they had one you could just wash out but I understand these ones filter out more particles. I haven't looked at where the best/ cheapest place to get replacement filters is. Overall a great vacuum even if it does get lost occasionally. For us it has been worth the money. One thing to note is that I don't have porous stone flooring. We have a smooth laminate at this current house, so I cannot comment on how it performs over a more uneven hard surface. I also cannot comment on the "spot clean" feature since I have not used it.

I purchased this to replace a Roomba 780. The 780 wasn't able to reliably clean my 2000 sq-ft downstairs and had a lot of issues with our thick-pile carpets. Newer Roombas claim to support the type of navigation AI that Neato uses, but they are far more expensive. I've been using the Neato Botvac D80 for a few weeks now and I'm pretty happy overall. The tracking system seems to be much more sophisticated than the random bump-and-run of the Roomba. I like the fact that it will return to the charging station, recharge, then complete the job once the batter is ready. This device is capable of cleaning the entire downstairs in about 4 hrs (including recharge time). It also does a pretty good job picking up the hair of our cocker spaniel. This model doesn't include connectivity to an app, but that functionality really isn't important to me. I don't plan on running the Neato when I'm not home since it can get stuck (or worse, encounter a dog accident). Getting email updates from the vacuum just isn't that important to me. Its not perfect however. We have a shag area rug that it get stuck on regularly. To block of areas for the Botvac, you need to place down a magetic strip. It works well, but Neato doesn't provide nearly enough with the product. The device also has some trouble navigating around our dining room chairs. I'll probably end up buying another 40-50 feet of magnetic strips so that the Neato can run uninterrupted and not require my intervention. It would be nice if the AI system could remember the location where it got stuck and avoid the area the next time.

Love, love, love my Neato Botvac D80! I have 4 cats and all hardwood floors except tile in the bathrooms. This vacuum is a dream, I run it every day, sometimes every other day. We named her Rosie (the robot maid from the Jetsons) and she is like having a live in maid. Our house is only 1000sf so she can do the whole thing in about 45min-1hr. Amazing how much hair and dust she gets daily. Best part is she goes under the beds and furniture where the cat hair used to accumulate. I can't live without it, I highly recommend it. She maps out the rooms by doing the perimeter and then methodically goes back and forth in rows, never misses a spot. It's amazing, I don't know how it knows to navigate back to do the next room after it completes an area, but it knows where it left off and continues on from there. GET THIS VACUUM! You won't be sorry.

We haven't tried the roomba but got the neato after a coworker told us it tested better to him then the roombas did. I love this vacuum! Leaves nice clean lines on the carpet and keeps our house fresh and clean. We have two cats and it works well at cleaning up pet hair. I docked it one star because it can't complete the full downstairs on one charge and sometimes it does get stuck in places.

While there are some drawbacks to this little guy (he gets confused in our house and stuck on furniture a bit) "Juan" turned out to be a great addition to our household! I think the area we need him most might be just a bit too large, and of course we still need to sweep in areas he can't reach, overall he works well. The scheduling function is fantastic! And he alerts you when the bin is too full or something is stuck in the rollers. Overall a great purchase and cute as well. (We put googly eyes on ours.)

I now have two of these robot vacs. They truly are both "neato" to pardon the pun. I purchased my first D80 Approximately four years ago and it has been working great all along, but got tired of picking it up and carrying it up and down the stairs. So, when I noticed some Samsung's on special, I decided to purchase one. I had a lot of issues with it like it would not go over my area rugs and the battery would lose the charge before finishing the cleaning. After returning three different brand vacs with similar issues, I got tired and decided to purchase another D80. I have to say that all my robot vac issues have been solved and they both are working extremely well with no issues at all. I highly recommend the Neato D80 Robot Vacs.

I am a happy girl. This new Neato Botvac D80 has definitely made a vast improvement from the XV-21. Although, we were mostly happy the older model, it began to have problems and shipping the robot off for repairs seemed futile and costly. Out of the box, sleeker appearance, smaller charging station, larger dirt bin, not as heavy. Once it charged, we ran a full cleaning. It took 2 cycles instead of 3 with the XV-21. It also ran longer cycles, 1 1/2 hours each instead on 1 hour. Much quieter than the older model as well. Still did a great job. And with a 2400 SF house, one dog and two small children, it is a guaranteed time saver. I love it. Worth the cost. Make sure to buy the extended warranty through Geek Squad.
