Got this game for our grandson. He truly enjoys playing it.

Since I've burned 2 arcade-style racing games with scathing reviews, perhaps I should post reviews for what IMHO are good games. NFS:HP(2010) is certainly one. Even though I bought it when it released [price a bargain now] but hadn't gotten around to it (stuff happens...), and though I played it after playing through NFS:MW(2012) and Burnout Paradise, it holds up well: excellent graphics, excellent car selection, very good gameplay, some very good courses, and for the most part [the reason any game is played] - downright fun. Gravy on the biscuit: you can play as Racer OR Cop. It has some frustrating flaws: most egregious of which are the time-trials - nearly all time limits are much too severe for the courses, which you tend to pinball and careen around anyway, so gold frequently is out-of-the-question without dozens (literally) of attempts: some blatantly don't merit the effort, but some are tantalizingly close. Another is the absolutely myopic response of the cops: all those racers, yet only one - the player - is singled out. At least this is Burnout style racing, so all opponents can be shoved around and taken out - many stunning Kodak moments of that. One more gripe, a flaw all too common to the genre: I wish designers would get off their sadistic, infuriating habit of putting pedestrian vehicles in the wrong places at the wrong times... Events load quickly, and recover from wrecks at impact location just as quickly; some position gets lost, but only intermittently was it an obscene penalty; and the AI opponent vehicles' skills do exhibit a lack of perfection. The cars handle extremely well, with barely any sloppiness (much the opposite of NFS:TR), so staying on course is just enough of a challenge. Car inventory is weaponized(!) and wondrous to the point of fantasy, with informative voice-overs to describe them - an interesting inclusion, but more along the lines of bragging and advertising than anything else (selling points - seriously? This working stiff can't afford any of 'em...). A variant of FreeDrive is allowed, so you can relax and look at the scenery, discover pitfalls and shortcuts, practice skills, or just enjoy the speed (that long, straight, desert road in the Veyron - sigh), but the designers went about it rather sloppily, making you choose a starting route from a menu, and not having a map as you drive. From what I could see, there's no penalty for not being an online player, though many features are slanted to social networking. Finally, something I haven't given consideration before, until recently, is the soundtrack - a very good one for this game: choices complement the action well, and no odd out-of-left-field selections among them; I've gone as far as to look some songs up for download. This game is a lot of fun, but not perfect, with some invective-spewing controller-hurling moments; in the end, a game very much worth keeping.

This game caught my eye after I played Most Wanted On the psp so i had to grab this copy i was late grabbing it almost a year later. but i still bought it. A Must get if your a fan of Burnout as this game is made by the same makers Criterion Games. The Good.. 1.The Cars Are Realistic 2.Wide Variety Of Cars To Choose From 3.Great Tracks 4.Play As The Cops 5.Online Bounty Adds On To Your Carrer Bounty The Bad. 1.Can Be Hard At Times 2.Time Trials Are Hard To Achieve Gold.

Just ok, did not play this one much , it ended up in the pile of games.

Virtually every vehicle I used in career exhibited over-steer characteristics making it impossible to hold a line. Most cars are available for purchase not unlockable by gameplay, another money grabbing game. I shelved this game in 2 days; enough said.

I had Need for Speed (Carbon and Underground) and Gran Turismo 4 for PS2, and decided it was time to get a racing game for PS3. I got this because I found it's type of racing more entertaining compared to GT's more realistic style. Both games have outstanding graphics, but I would say GT has just a little edge. This game is tons of fun, with great cars and a great online game. However, one thing I didn't like is the customization, or lack there of. My previous NFS games had lots of customization opportunities. Hot Pursuit, however, only goes as far as selecting between a few pre-made paint jobs. I would've liked to see some old school muscle cars as well. Basically, the decision between NFS Hot Pursuit and GT5 comes down to what type of racing game you like better. Arcade, or Simulator?

I was so excited to get this game. My family (Husband, myself, and 3 kids) had played NFS HP2 on the PS2 until the game was worn out and wouldn't load anymore. It was a blast. So when we saw that this game was coming out we were very excited. We purchased the game shortly before Christmas, rushed home and loaded it up. Imagine my surprise when I saw that there was no quick race option, nor could you race against another player on the same console. Nope, it is all dedicated to a single player career mode, or playing against other players online. Which is fine if you have the money to purchase a second PS3 and NFS HP game for the same household. Overall, the gameplay is great. Car selection is wonderful. Graphics are killer. I am fine with the lack of vehicle customization (such as found in NFS Underground games). I am glad that there is not really a free roam mode to find all of the races. They are found by a map. You can enter a free roam to just drive around to get the lay of the land. But I was really disliking the free world aspect of the recent NFS games. So, to wrap it up. Good game overall, but very disappointed and mystified on why the creators would remove such an integral piece of the game. Not everyone wants to spend all of their time online to find "friends" just to race against someone. Hopefully, they will release a patch or something that will integrate that part of the game back in.

This game is the NFS game I have played that's out for PS3 but it's basically a highly polished edition of Burnout Paradise with real world cars. It lacks the soul of previous NFS titles like Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2. It was fun for one play through and a few attempts to get all gold medals. The car selection is very good and they actually hold a candle to the kings of car racers (Forza, GT) graphics wise. Most of the tracks are fun. The cops and other cars make it a challenge. The race modes are fun but time trial is boring and really frustrating if your the cop. Every time you hit something its a 2-3 second penalty. I may keep it just for that random rainy day replay simply because Forza is Xbox only, I don't like GT, and until Grid 2 comes out this is about the best racer I've played. I'm waiting for Shift 2 to come down in price so this is my only option that's fun. I can't comment on online play because I don't have internet.

I've owned every NFS since the PS1. With each game there have been things that I've liked and disliked. Overall this is a great game. The graphics are outstanding. There are a wide selection of cars to choose from, everything from American muscle, import tuners to exotics. It's great that you're able to be a cop and chase the racers, something few games have ever done. You get two careers at once (cop/racer) and they can both be completed at your own pace. You can choose to complete the game as a cop and then go back and start your career as a racer, or alternate which mode you're playing. There are over 100 miles of roads in this game with 4 distinctly different settings. (Mountains, desert, coastal and forest.) This game does have free roam, although there is nothing to be gained from it. It's not like the games of the past when you could pick up a race simply by driving next to another racer, you simply drive around and admire the scenery. It would be nice to go to free roam and be able to chase random racers that speed by, or have cops randomly placed on roads as you speed by them and have them chase you. The Autolog feature is nice. You can see your friend's times for each race and when you beat their time you can post it for all of your friends to see and try to beat. You can also go to Photo Mode and take pictures which are then loaded to Autolog and visible at the NFS website. The online part of the game is interesting. It's nice to be able to race/chase against real people. One thing to note is that the makers can't tell time. If a race says that it's at 12:00AM (midnight), it's actually at 12:00PM (noon), so expect a day race. 12:00PM races actually take place at night.

NFS rescued by EA from the ashes and turned into a Burnout clone. Fans of the game Burnout will recognize the game play mechanics right out of the gate. The game does a great job with it's graphics and the sense of speed during game play. It's cut and dry Cops and Robbers NFS fun with a minor drawback. Smashing into roadblocks are handled the Burnout way and not the NFS way. Causing a Crash scene to play where in NFS it allows you to plow into and through the roadblocks. It's these short almost cut scenes / animations that are the downfall of this game. Wrecking cops or other racers cause one to play and a lot of the times the game puts you in the middle of a turn when the camera spins back towards the race. Fun at first but repetitive throughout the game it gets pretty old. The saving grace for this game is the sheer number of cars you get to drive. 5 to 6 different Lambo's, Bugati's, CCX-R's....we're talking the fasted cars ever made not honda civic's. It doesn't take you long to earn new cars and fast cars for that matter. Glad to see the Franchise back and in capable hands, they just need to tweak it a bit and add some polish to it.

I was kinda upset that the new Need For Speed Hot Pursuit doesnt have replay after the races, i mean who doesnt want to see their car from heli view, but they made up for it with the free roaming on the track with the cars you won, I mean, that was very very fun, so since I finally got a game I like for this PS3, I guess I keep it. Excellent graphics, excellent sound, super fun. Keep it coming, next time include replays

This is a fun game. Graphics are outstanding. Don't expect a real life sim like Gran Turimo. If you want a driving game thats fun to play with good sound and great looking cars, this is it. Wide range of cars to unlock. I don't know why they put a customization grade in the rating scale. Can't customize one thing. Other than that its fun to play.

I was bitterly dissapointed with GT5, so picked up this after reading good things. Unlike GT5, this is FUN and you actually have competition to beat. Wrecking other cars never gets old. Some events are eady to win, others are more difficult. The cars sound great, unlike GT5's vacuum cleaners. Drifts and oversteer are easy to control. Yes it is more arcadish than GT5, but who cares - I'm enjoying it. Let's face it, no console racer is realistic anyways after you play a proper PC sim with a wheel. My only dislike is if you restart an event, it reoads the entire event and you have to wait more than you should. What is the point of that? Bottomline, this is a fun racer with a great car selection that you can play for just 20 minutes or 5 hours.

I love this game! i can't stop playing it. I got 3 other games for christmas and haven't even played them yet. The graphics, the cars, the tracks, the cops, everything about this game is awesome!!!

If your a fan of the Need for Speed line of games this is one you cant miss. While the campaign doesnt have a story like Most Wanted it's still solid and fun and prepares you for the online play. The one fun thing with the campaign is the wall, you can post your top times or take down your friends and even taunt them after you do. The online play is where this game truly shines, the cars may be unrealisticly fast but its gonna be fun for any true fan of the series and any racing game lover. The online isnt just racing simply with friends or people around the world, you can now be the cop and bust other racers or speed past the finish line as the racer by wrecking your fellow racers. The replay value of this racing game is higher then most and will be fun for a long time if your a racing game fan. If racing games arnt your thing this game probably wont make you switch from your fps games but it will be a fun transition. Overall its a great game and i personally love it.

I got this game like all the other Need For Speed games. I love them. This one is no exception. Graphics are really clear, gameplay is intense, and the sound and feel of the cars is perfect. Only problems I have with the game is that you can not customize the cars, and there is no manual shifting. Other than those two factors its the best Need For Speed I've played yet. I would definitely reccomend it.

I pre-ordered this game the day I heard it was coming out and I was not disappointed. This game is amazing on so many levels. The graphics are eye-dropping. The control spot-on. Even with some of the cars being a little squirrely in the rear end in the turns just like in real life. And the many different game modes are verrry addicting. The online play is also quite addicting. Especially with the option to set up private races with a buddy where one is the cop and the other is the racer. The only downside is the soundtrack the music can be a little repetitive but thankfully you can turn the music off and just enjoy the roar of all that horsepower. The other downside is no offline multiplayer but me and my buddies still have fun passing the controller back and forth and trying to beat times on the speedwall. Overall a very solid exceptional game.

Picked it up on day one - hooked up the Logitech G27 steering wheel - turned on the PS3 - after searching all the options then searching web find out there is no steering wheel support at the moment - Criterion/EA may consider an update in the future. Big disappointment on an excellent game bringing back the thrill of outrunning police rather than just going around a track. Why support for Shift etc. but not this - come on!!!!!!!
