The only I have it a 3 stars is because this thing is WiFi 5 not WiFi 6. I am surprised nest is behind in technology. WiFi 6 has a ton of benefits best to wait for it.

There can be multiple reasons that cause slower Wi-Fi speed. First, you can try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your router to see if it improves the Wi-Fi speed. You can also try to bring it closer just to check if the speed will improve as there's a possibility of interference.
To get the best experience with Nest Wifi, we recommend setting your gateway in bridge mode, or disable its Wi-Fi functionality in order to set up Nest Wifi router as your primary router, and create a mesh Wi-Fi system throughout your home. You can also try to restart your network to observe if the speed will improve.

Until that’s resolved, and who knows if that’ll ever happen, don’t buy this router. A couple years ago I started my Nest system with a thermostat. I’ve added several speakers and the doorbell since then and everything ran great. Then, I decided I wanted to make Nest WiFi the backbone of my smart home with the ultimate goal of getting the security system, door locks, and cameras. So, a couple months ago I bought the Nest WiFi when it was on sale. It worked great for a few weeks and then it started inexplicably rebooting itself multiple times throughout the day. Turned out that some of the equipment and cabling outside needed to be replaced, which Spectrum did plus they gave me an updated modem/router. I thought, great, now this router should work just fine. Nope, it still rebooted itself. So, I just had Spectrum turn the WiFi on the router and went with that, which basically meant I’d wasted $200 on the Nest WiFi. Shortly after all this, I lost connection to all my google smart speakers in the home app. They were still connected to the internet because they would respond to me, I just couldn’t go into the app and control them. After much research and reading on message boards, I discovered there’s a compatibility issue with the modem/router that Spectrum gave me and Google devices. The solution was to purchase my own modem (Arris SB8200), which I did. Now I thought, great, I’ll be able to fix the issues with accessing my smart speakers AND I’ll be able to run the Nest WiFi with no more issues. False! The Nest WiFi still is not working properly. The problem has changed slightly, the router isn’t rebooting anymore, but the internet connection is highly unstable. The modem shows I’m connected to the internet, and if I plug directly into it I’m still able to surf the net, but the router itself loses connection. There is a lengthy thread on Google’s WiFi support forum of other people having the same issue. Google hasn’t provided much, if any, support to fix the problem; and the general consensus is that it’s a software issue. That’s a long story, but at the end of the day, I’m now looking at other mesh systems. I’ll still stick with Google’s smart home system because it’s worked with no problems prior to this episode with the router, but the Nest WiFi is pure junk until Google decides to update the software.

Then the Google router lost connection with both satellites. This led to devices not being able to connect on our second floor or in our basement. After several hours of tech support, Google determined the device was defective. Best Buy honored Google's assessment and sent us a new device. After the new device updated its firmware, it also lost connection with both satellites. After several more hours on the phone with Google tech support, they could not determine the cause. The last tech support agent suggested I rename the router and reconnect each of our 80 devices one at a time to see if there was interference. I was daring and tried two devices - the Google doorbell and thermostat, both on the main floor. We immediately lost connection with both satellites. If ANY device was connected to the wifi, it immediately lost connection with both satellites. To get any signal in the house, we had to reconnect our old router, a linksys that we bought at Best Buy & were replacing old because it had trouble reaching my husband's newly created home office (#covid). In short, after two FULL days of tech support hell and an additional day of researching new routers and mesh systems, I wouldn't recommend this device to my worst enemy.

It's not really any better than our wifi without Google Nest. The Google Nest drops pretty often as well. Sometimes it comes back on by itself. Sometimes I have to reset it.

The connectivity issue may be related to a few reasons and if you're willing, we recommend trying out some troubleshooting steps below that might be helpful:
- Home layout: Building materials and other objects located between your router and Wi-Fi points or between your Wi-Fi points and mobile devices may slow your connection. If possible, try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your router or point.
- Check congestion: There could be congestion on your Wi-Fi network if you have many connected devices to the network. All these devices consume a portion of your available Wi-Fi bandwidth. You can try relieving the network by disconnecting some of the devices to see if this would increase the Wi-Fi speed for the device you’re using.
If the issue continues even after restarting or resetting your modem, then we may need to have a better look at what may be causing it.

Mesh Mistake

Wifi signal wasn't always as good when using multiple devices.

There can be multiple reasons that cause slower or inconsistent Wi-Fi connection. We recommend checking the following:
- As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.
- Building materials and other objects located between your Nest Wifi Points and mobile devices may slow your connection. If possible, try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your primary and secondary Points.
- There could be signal interference due to traffic on your Wi-Fi network, on your neighbors' Wi-Fi networks, or from other sources like microwaves or baby monitors.

The speed drops you are experiencing could be affected by interference caused by the building materials in your home. Great Coverage, low Mbps

Find the internet is slower and still have connectivity issues with my cameras. Not really sure if the price is worth the loss of internet bogging down.

Great for novice - terrible for anyone else.

If you have a basic understanding of network setup or Router configuration do not buy this router. You can only setup and edit through a phone app. There is NO GUI or Browser based management of this router. You cant even connect to it if there is no internet to make any edits or run diagnostics. So it only works if you have an internet connection that is working. To me that makes zero sense. I understand they want to make it simple but anyone born after 1970 will find this router extremely frustrating if you wish to modify its settings.

I have never had my games download in Kbs speed until I used this router. Not to mention it only has 2 Ethernet ports!
