I purchased this 8-port switch to expand my cat6 connections at my entertainment center. This is the second one I purchased. The first is in my internet service closet. Get the 8 port even if you only need 4 ports. The cost uplift is minimal and you'll likely need it at some point.

Great Performance and Price

I received this product for free as part of the Friends and Family Program.
Setup is very easy. Just plug in the power cable and Ethernet cables and it's ready to go. It can be mounted to a wall or desk either horizontally or vertically with the included mounting bracket. It also comes with several cable management straps. I should also note that the build quality appears to be very good. In addition to having 8 Gigabit ports, the switch also includes a number of additional configurable features such as quality of service, flow control, VLAN, and IP address. Another convenient feature is the inclusion of two USB charging ports.
Performance appears to be excellent. This is replacing an inexpensive 10/100 switch for me and I've already experienced a notable speed increase on file transfers between my desktop and NAS.
This product meets my expectations and I believe it provides a good value and performance for the price. I would definitely recommend it to anyone for home and small business use.

I needed a network switch to replace an existing old Linksys. At first I was little worry about Netgear switch since I have been having problem with Negear products for the past 2 years. However, this works great so far for 1 month without any issue. Easy to setup.

Replaced an old 5 port switch that stopped working with this switch because of the speed and number of ports available. Nice bonus was the plug doesn't have a big transformer box on the end, much easier to find a spot to plug it in.

Switch does it work well, as long as you update the firmware. The firmware that comes standard is useless.

This is the perfect size to be placed in the interior of a Structured Cable cabin. We have a 14" high cabinet where all of our CAT6 runs terminate and this provided the perfect solution!

Needed at least 7 - GB ports for AV equipment and wanted some versatility for mounting. It was important to have activity lights and ports on same side of device. Was able to update firmware with no issue.

Firmware update from Windows is problematic

Switch works OK but updating the firmware from Windows still does not work properly as of this writing (August 2016). Sometimes it works fine, other times, it will lock up the management function (still switches OK), sometimes permanently . I've used 6 of these so far and have had a 50% failure rate. Fortunately, Best Buy has a great return policy and the manufacture supports the product under warranty.
This is a known problem and the manufacturer is still working on a fix.
Otherwise, these are nice units, they provide flexible mounting options for s small office that doesn't want to rackmount everything.

Love the fact it doesn't require a power supply as it's built into the unit. Mounts directly to my entertainment cabinet and has enough to supply ethernet to all my entertainment devices. 10/100/1000

Netgear ProSafe switches are the best bang for the buck. Solid performance, basic feature functionality, overall good product. Can't forget about the lifetime warranty. Never buy another switch again.

Ok for desk, not for shelf

I bought this network switch because I've always liked Netgear products. At the $70 price range, it's a bit expensive for a plastic shelled switch. Netgear makes other switches at this price range in metal shells which to me just seems more heavy-duty (and helps to weigh the switch down a bit to keep it from moving around). I didn't like the slim factor of the ProSafe Click Switch for use on a shelf because the switch wouldn't stay in place. Everytime a cable is touched, the switch wants to move as well. I also didn't like the weird power cord which attaches on the corner of the switch. This switch is best for those needing to mount it to a desk leg, under the desk, or to the side of a server rack. Other than those locations, I'd recommend getting a flatter, wider switch that stays in place a bit better.

The higher end Netgear home/office equipment such as this are extremely reliable and durable. I have a number of Netgear products and this one continues in that tradition.

This switch is like most other switches. I couldn't believe how little space it took up and how quiet it is. Great switch as are most of Netgear products.
