Customers frequently mention the ease of use, strong WiFi performance, and reliable signal strength as significant advantages. Many appreciate the adapter's good range and relatively easy installation process. While some users noted the small size of the adapter, others reported occasional software issues. Overall, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs the negative comments.

Awful Customer Service

Responded yes to a software update. After that, my adapter would not work. When I called Netgear customer service, they suggested I return the product to Best Buy and see what they could do. Since the adapter was out of the warranty period, a new one was purchased. The same error message popped up when I tried to install the new one. Again, I called Netgear. The bottom line ... I was told I would have to purchase the upgraded help package @ $89 before they could help my install my BRAND NEW Netgear adapter. I now use LinkSys. Installed in less than 10 minutes !!! No more Netgear for me ...

The wifi card in my laptop is pretty anemic, and only covers the 2.4ghz band. My wifi service is rated at 150Mbps down, and I have it connected to an 11AC router. The built in wifi card can only get me around 60Mbps. With the Netgear AC1200 I regularly get 150 - 170 Mbps down stream speed. Connections have been rock-steady.
Construction and appearance are top-notch - a clever design. As with all full performance USB 3.0 AC adapters (excluding the reduced performance mini adapters), the AC 1200 is a bit large, and can block off an adjacent usb port. However, the inclusion of a dock alleviates that problem (It can also be directly plugged into the usb port). Also of course, the included dock makes this a good solution for a desktop computer as well.
I do not know much about beamforming, but, using it with my AC beamform enabled router (not a Netgear) I am getting excellent range.
***Netgear has a Windows 10 driver on their site, if you are using Windows 10, definitely install this version! I run Windows 10 and have had no issues whatsoever with the AC 1200***
The included Genie software works well, but for those who prefer to not use it, you can opt not to during installation...appreciate having the choice!
Overall, I could not be more pleased with the Netgear AC 1200, It does exactly what it is meant to do and is a quality solution for those needing a high speed wireless adapter.

Tried to install but after several attempts and calling customer service, found out you must go online and download newer software for Windows 10. If we could access the internet on this computer already, we wouldn't need this product.

This thing works great when it is working, but I am constantly reinstalling it on Windows 10 because it constantly loses it's driver. Even after downloading new or different drivers from netgears website, every reboot loses the driver.

Would only connect to R7800 Nighthawk (Also Netgear) from 10 feet away. Also, found out later from Netgear support it's plagued with bugs on Windows 10.

I have been trying to use this adapter with my desktop on the same floor as my modem/router. They are about 25 ft. apart but the signal continues to below. Have been trying to move around but results have not been any better.

No more than 3 month of use and the oroduct does not work (NOTHING AT ALL) I have called to Nethear after the product registration, 30 minutes waiting, and after that the lady made her work (1000+ tests) and they determined that the product doen’t works because got a black out in my house. She told me that need to buy another one, Are you serious? It is not the lower price product. How does such a large company not foresee that its equipment may fail due to a blackout? TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED.

Brand response from Netgear Support

Hi eoliveros4,
NETGEAR warrants its products contained in their original packaging against defects in material and workmanship when the products are used normally for their intended purposes.
If a power surge damaged your product that is something that you need to check on your residential insurance.
