Customers are saying

Customers praise the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router for its impressive range, strong performance, and ease of setup, resulting in excellent coverage and signal strength, great for streaming and other demanding applications. However, some customers note that the router is expensive and large, and a few have experienced issues with the firmware. Despite these drawbacks, many users find the improved speed and reliability worthwhile.

As an active bankruptcy lawyer, I have clients whose respective problems require a lot of database interactions. To stop home foreclosures and stave off wage garnishments, I require reasonably quick access to the internet. Since upgrading my house and offices to Nighthawk router technology, my work throughput is remarkably increased. Rapidity. Reliabiilty. Operational simplicity. ConfidentialityThose are the real world benefits of this new technology.

The router is a bit larger than I thought it was going to be, but is very much worth its size. Very fast speeds, very easy to setup, great for connecting external drives

I bought this router in hopes of improving my wi-fi signal throughout the house. It's mbps ratings were the highest out of everything in the store, so I assumed that it would be faster than the 2 year old Asus RT-AC87R I was going to replace. Well, it wasn't faster and the signal did not improve. Once I got it home I compared the two and found that the 2.4GHz and 5GHz speeds were nearly identical. The "new feature" of the Nighthawk was that it had AD band which ended up being more than half of the total mbps speed. While it's nice that it has the upcoming band type, it's not really usable. First, there's nothing that I have (or know of at this point) that's using AD band. Second, those that have tried it have reported that it's only good for about 30 ft away from the router. It just wasn't helpful for my situation. The best thing that I could say about the router was that it looked neat. Oversized, but cool looking. At a retail price of $450, it was way overpriced. My 2 year old technology was half as much, and just as effective. I ended up exchanging it for an Orbi RBS40 (whole home wi-fi system). It's also made by Netgear, but this one addressed my issue of having better wi-fi coverage throughout my home. It's also expensive like the Nighthawk X10 (at a retail price of $479), but it has appeared to help with some of the weaker signals in certain locations.

Upgraded from Nighthawk R7000. Love the speed and range on this unit. Also enjoying the PLEX media server feature that is built in. This router is priced very high but I'm happy with the results. I've had very little trouble with streaming live TV service. I would recommend this router to anyone who enjoys solid WiFi performance and has cut the cord on standard TV services.

Changed our modem so we changed our router too. We wanted fast so we had to pay the price for faster router. Just wonder how long before this “fastness” will last since technology evolves so much more faster? Hope that made sense. Our last router was $400+ which lasted a little over a year before things started to “buffer” and slow down. It’s so annoying to watch a movie when it has to buffer during the best scenes. Hope this lasts us a little longer. Crossing my fingers!

Shopping for routers is something I normally only do when my current one fails and that's what prompted me to buy the Nighthawk X10. I tried a lower brand that was well rated. And when setting it up I checked the firmware. To do that I had to go to the manufactures website. I downloaded the firmware but the revision didn't change. Then I noticed the firmware was from May 2017. This was a China made router and even though it was working fine I took it back. Just the opposite happened with the Netgear. I logged in and it flashed the firmware right away. And that has been my experience with Netgear routers. They do get security patches which is critical. Your router is your first line of defense for you home network. I would also add that this router is very expensive but if you really care about your home network this routers feature set is best in class. There are just somethings you don't want to scrimpt on. Having the firmware issue on the other brand and the performance I now have with the Nighthawk has been money well spent. Yes it is expensive but I see a quality home network as a necessity more than a luxury.

I was very hesitant to spend the money on this. After much research, and trial and error with other routers I paid up. It is very strong, great range, and so far no issues! It was great the set up, and the new nighthawk app is very easy to operate. Highly recommended for homes with a log of devices or larger homes.

My last router was am AC 5400 and was being stretched to its limits. I work from home as a system applications developer, sending and pulling gigs of data every min. So I needed a router that could handle all of my data requirements while keeping my 4 kids and wife happy with there multiple electronics. Because of my high demand I have to plug directly into the router with no drag and all other devices haven't had any drag using Wi-Fi since I got this router. On top of the great speeds, there is little drop off with distance, even though the signal has to go through 3 floors, several walls, air ducts, ...etc., I am able to stream netflix on the TV and surf the web with no issues. In addition, Netgear has an amazingly simple interface and secondary apps to manage the router which is second to none imo. I have only 4 stars because the Wi-Fi dropped once for no apparent reason, requiring the router to power down and back up to work. This also happened with my old router when too much data was going through the pipe.

I own numerous Netgear products and recommend them all the time. 2 years ago I replaced my Nighthawk R7000 with an Asus AC88u router. Very nice improvement on speed and coverage. Software wise it was noticeably better than the netgear (Netgear is more intuitive but Asus is more powerful). Well I was ready for something bigger and better and decided to get back into Netgear Nighthawk routers so hear is my review.... Build quality is superb, best I have ever seen in a router, even best the Asus. Setup was super easy and included the AC adapter with one 3 foot Cat5 cable. This gets another nod because you dont need to attach the antennas. So here come the big negatives. The netgear software is the same on this router as it is on the $50 router. They have still done nothing special with the nighthawk series. I'm definitely stepping down a lot when compared to the Asus. It will get the job done but it doesn't have any real graphical information or data on the ram and CPU usage. I love that visibility on the Asus. Another step down was only 6 nic ports for devices vs 8 on my old one. Performance, this is where the real disappointment kicks in. I live in a small 860 sqft apartment and this was installed on one side of that so I know ideal would be middle placement. This was where I install all my routers. Signal and dBm strength was the same as the Asus ( a little disappointing but not the end of the world). The network speed was terrible. I tried numerous configurations (made sure router was running the latest firmware), QOS on/off, meshed the 2.4 & 5GHz ssid on/off, turned off the new AD 60GHz band, tried different signal bands to find the best one. Devices used in testing. Galaxy S9+, Macbook Pro 2017 Touch bar, Razer Blade 2018, PS4 Pro. I'm considering a mesh or range extender for the other room (on other side of apartment but the Asus was getting 80ish down and the Netgear is around 40Mbps on 2.4. 5Ghz was 35Mbps on the Asus vs 4-5Mbps on the Netgear. I know the 5Ghz doesn't penetrate walls very well but that is a drastic drop in speed when compared to the old router. Summery. Do I regret buy this? Yes, I don't believe it's worth the money when compared a router at half the price. Consider that this does have the new AD band so it will have more longevity but not helping the current tech. Would I still buy Netgear and recommend their products in the future? Yes. While I dont think this product is worth the money they do make very reliable items. They really need to update the phone app and make the router software more modern. Maybe firmware will help this router in the future but as it stands it's worth maybe $200 in my book based on the competition. I dont think I will return it (undecided) but I may switch back to my Asus. Note on using as a Plex media server. This is a great option if you dont already have one (I have a i7 QNAP Plex server already). So if you need a new router and dont have an existing Plex server this router is a better choice.

I have gigabit internet and had Netgear 1000modem gave me 945 mbps that’s the fastest. I had tried a Motorola mb8600, did not go above 700mbps. Currently I got an Arris SB8600 this is a rock solid modem not as fast as the Netgear CM 1000, but gave me a max of 860 mbps. I have Netgear Nighthawk ad7200 router or Also known as R9000, which is awesome, gives upto 600 mbps on the 5ghz WiFi no matter which modem I used so I am sticking to Arris SB8600 for now. Can’t test the AD that can go to 4+ Gig speed in line of sight, as I do not have Ad device. AD is not wide spread and not much use right now, may be in future; but it’s limiting due to need of direct line of sight. This is a very good router. But with Netgear always buy an extended warranty

I replaced my Netgear AC1900 router because our Wi-Fi performance was slow. I was told by the Netgear support rep that we currently have too many (20 active devices) Wi-Fi devices in our home. He recommended that I purchase a Netgear Nighthawk X10 router. I was shocked by the price and almost didn't but it but I am glad I did listen to him. The router works great and all of our devices are working much faster.
