Customers are saying

Customers praise the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router for its impressive range, strong performance, and ease of setup, resulting in excellent coverage and signal strength, great for streaming and other demanding applications. However, some customers note that the router is expensive and large, and a few have experienced issues with the firmware. Despite these drawbacks, many users find the improved speed and reliability worthwhile.

The router does not have an extensive range. We live in a one-story house (1,434 sq ft ) and the wifi is in the bedroom. The wifi does not even reach our kitchen and it is very spotty.

Not as good as I thought it would be. I got a slower WiFi speed from this then I did with Comcast’s built in xb6 router. About 200 mg slower..... not sure why considering the price of this

This router is amazing when it works. The wireless function works 100% of the time. Flawless! The wired works most of the time but Linksys has no fix for it. Many people have complained on the forums but it means nothing. They won’t fix it.

I have purchased several routers from the Netgear brand and this one was not up to my expectations...it never gave enough signal even after I spoke to my ISP there was no change.

For a ridiculous price of almost 500 dollars this router should never have to drop signal but it does,I even pay for the geek squad to do the installation and yet drops the signal. I wont buy this again

Decent product, but not quite as good as advertised. Had issues in the beginning with some devices grabbing a 169.x.x.x address even though I had them set for DHCP and reserved.

The NETGEAR X10 R900 router has been the best router I have used to date. Before obtaining this router, my household was configured with a model/router and an access point connected so that my house can get complete coverage. The previous access point device was broadcasting wireless N, so moving to the X10 has greatly improved bandwidth throughout the house. As a matter of fact, with the X10 alone, I get complete coverage upstairs and downstairs with ease. I was able to stream content from my Plex server to my downstairs media center with no buffering at all, which was a huge pain from my previous network configuration. As for the built-in Plex server capability, I absolutely enjoyed the ease of getting it up and running. I Simply went into the router’s page where I was able to download and activate the Plex server, followed by plugging my USB device, and having Plex grab the content from the USB device. I was even able to link it with my current Plex account to the X10 with no problem whatsoever. I am in mid process of moving my media content over to a USB media storage so that it can all run through the X10 router. One of the great features of the R9000 is that the router houses two USB 3.0 ports so that I can have two USBS drives connected, which essentially means I will have two NAS storage drives that I can access from the Plex server and ReadyShARE. As for initial setup, it was a breeze since the antennas, which have LED lights on the edge, were already attached to the router during unboxing of the unit. Configuring it to my network was a breeze as well. Thanks to the NETGEAR up phone App, I didn’t even have to log into my Desktop to configure the router to my network. The app goes through the entire process of setting up the internet connection, updating to the latest firmware, and configuring my WIFI settings. Now the only downside, may be the size of the router as it is larger than any of my previous routers. Yet this is not really a downfall for me for since I enjoy the design of the R9000 due to the router looking like a slim PC with fans visible from the grill. Actually one other great feature of the R9000 is the ability to turn the LED lights on and off, which can be great if placed within a room and do not want to stay awake with the LED lights blinking and flashing. All in all, I am glad to have this router in my house and am hoping to get more AD compatible devices so that I can enjoy the true performance of NETGEAR’s R900 router. Please note that I received this product for free to test as a part of the NETGEAR F&F program.

    When working, works well

Ordered to replace my netgear R8500 that worked well for the past 2 years but started having issues locking up. Just FYI a WiFi home router usually only lasts me 2 years. Got the R900 and set it up without issue...but then after 30 minutes noticed noticed a download got disconnected/interrupted. Then started noticing glitches in steams and browsing so checked the logs and found that every 30 minutes the router was reconnecting to the internet. Contacted NETGEAR Support (folks are telling the truth when that comment about how bad the support is) and spent the next 5 days making changes to settings, downgrading firmware, etc at their direction. After 5 days reached my limit and told them it was obviously a hardware issue and then needed to replace it. Options they offered were not conducive to my needs so I reached out to Best Buy who listened to my story and quickly offered up to send me a replacement and also offered to send me a RMA shipping label to return the defective unit when the new one arrived. New unit arrived, and sadly it too suffered from the same issue. Contacted Best Buy again and they offered me the option of full refund or selecting a different WiFi router. So going to try the ASUS AC5300 this time and see how it goes....extreamly disappointed in NetGear. Every two years, for the past 8 years, I have always purchased their “top of the line” unit and been satisfied with the cost to value received ratio. Had their support been better would have considered trying their next “best” solution......

    Issues out of the box

I used this router for about a month before returning it. Out of the box it had issue, I just didn't want to believe it was the router. I read numerous reviews around how great it was, so I'm guessing I just got a defective model. The main problem I had which I read in a few other one star reviews was the wifi speeds were unstable. After booting the router up connection speeds are great, but about 10 minutes later when you let t sit idle, speeds fluctuate in a huge way. I have gigabit speeds from Comcast and had trouble even making it over 100mbps. At first I thought it was my modem (arris sb8200) so I bought another one to test and make sure but the same issue occurred. After power down the router speeds would return for a short time, then revert back to the 100mbps struggle. I finally gave up trying to troubleshoot the issue and thought I would give another router a shot. Returned the x10 and picked up an asus gt5300. I now steadily get 725 Mbps down and 43 up on wifi without any issues. Signal is constant strong. I should of gone with asus is the beginning but was a bit skeptical because of the reviews. Hope this helps with anyone who's consider or already purchased this router.
