Customers praise the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router for its impressive range, strong performance, and ease of setup, resulting in excellent coverage and signal strength, great for streaming and other demanding applications. However, some customers note that the router is expensive and large, and a few have experienced issues with the firmware. Despite these drawbacks, many users find the improved speed and reliability worthwhile.

Current Firmware Makes Device Junk

As of this review the current firmware causes the access manager to be useless when using the web interface. You can't set ip addresses to devices or even see what is on your network because it just shows a blank screen once turned on. There is also another issue when using the QoS feature on the router where it will cause the router to reboot multiple times a day. When contacting netgear customer support you have to register the product before even speaking to someone and then after sometime of basic trouble shooting (rebooting, changing cables, factory reset) for no reason you are told that this is an ongoing issue and that Netgear is aware of the issues and that you should return the $400 router back to the store if you want to use it for what you bought it for.

Netgear is advertising the fact that it can run the Plex app through their Nighthawk X10 R9000 flagship router. Plex is like any cloud service only you have to input all your data manually. Why anyone would see value in this is beyond me.
Also the two USB 3.0 ports on this router are extremely limited in functionality. They require compatible storage drives off of a very short list provided on their website. Even with a compatible external device, it is not plug and play. You likely will find yourself spending hours on the phone with Netgear support and the Genie app trying to instruct your router to recognize your compatible device.
It is all wayyy too much work of that kind of price. I might as well have gone to Fry's and bought components to build my own router....

This product was hard to install and it was extremely difficult to contact the individuals at NETGEAR. When we spoke with NETGEAR all of the individuals were foreigners and it was hard to understand them.

This router needs some work. Its pretty sketchy with software genie. It lacks extra security like mac address functions. Also it sucks with wireless internet whenever there is storm. Never had any issues with an Asus, which I will be getting back to.

This was the first netgear product to disappoint me with its performance. Once installed and firmware upgrade it will drop internet connection at least 10+ in just one minute. Once I had a stable connection for longer than 5 minutes as soon as I plugged in my external hard drive I lost connection immediately and will not come back until I disconnected USB. Connection was poor lost half of my internet speed, felt like I was running on dail up.

Installed it last night ,I have the Netgear CM600 modem as well Docsis 3.0 cable Modem, excellent modem btw.The Router is big in size has a giant heat sink with fan,you can see through the vent/grill,no you can't hear the fan run even when you put your head close to it..The antenna's were already mounted to the router. The install was a breeze, just plug and play comes with six gigabit ports and one ten Gig port as well.I took full advantage of all of the ports except the 10 gig. That was nice the extra ports, old router only had 4 ports.I have over 25 devices connected in house hard wired/wireless ect,,xbox's, ps-4's, ipads, phones, lap tops, and so on.
The antenna's light up blue and there not bright good thing , and the info lights in front can be easily turned off with a switch on back nice feature to have so you dont have to see all those flashing lights in your room/living room.I replaced a two year old router that was rated top router at the time,ASUS model,at times it would not stand up to the task with everything in house running,(causing lag game play and movies not running smooth. Not the case with this new beast!!! OMG is all i can say it is laughing at what we are throwing at it,wireless speeds are great from basement to second floor and signals strong everywhere even out side in driveway and back deck. The kids are gaming happy and all devices are doing great, yes I am very pleased with this router, complaints only that its 500 bucks oh well guess you get what you pay for and this so far seems to be worth every penny it better be for the price!!.If your paying for 200-300 mbps internet speeds take advantage of it with this router.

My favorite router...fast and a breeze to set up

The title says it all. I've been using the Netgear X10 router for almost a week and it's been great. Out of the box, it was incredibly simple to set up which is a major plus. Plug it in and the Netgear Genie does the rest!
The wireless speed is unmatched. I thought my previous AC router had impressive speeds, however with the new AD technology 60ghz, the latency and range seems much improved. I easily achieve my 300mbs download speed that I pay for (sometimes better) even when testing from the farthest corners of my home. Netgear claims that 4k download speeds will be much improved with this router and I can confirm that it's definitely the case. I downloaded multiple 4k videos within seconds. I've also found that connecting more than 5 devices results in limited or no loss in wireless speeds, which is due to the 1.7GHz processor on board the X10...that's more processing power than most laptops have these days!
The Plex Media server is also a very useful tool. As advertised, I successfully viewed my TV shows and pictures across multiple devices with ease. I think this service would be useful in a business setting where presentations / pictures / similar media needs to be transferred with ease.
If you're looking for the latest and greatest wifi technology, look no further. The Netgear X10 is the future. More wireless devices will begin to adopt the X10's AD technology, which will be great as the wireless speed is unparalleled.
Please note that I received this product for free to test as a part of the Netgear F&F program.

The X10 is not ready for the general public. I spent three hours setting this up with support, and the speeds were horrendous. I did all of the troubleshooting the interwebs said, and still, I could not get it to work. I would not recommend this device. In addition to this, the GUI was horrid. It feels like it was made in a day. Check out ASUS UI, its much better.

Router worked brilliantly for anything else but gaming. Any game I put on when connected to internet would lag spike then shut off my whole internet in the entire house. I returned this once for an even exchange and confirmed it was definitely the device itself. If you are getting this for games... Do not buy. Get an ASUS. They are much more gaming compatible. Never do I lag on mine.
