This router is awesome! I had the ASUS RT-AC68P before buying the Netgear Nighthawk X8 and it was fast! Or so I thought. I was getting from 110-125 download speeds with the Asus, but now, I'm getting an average download speed in the 170's with this beast! Not only do I get faster speeds but, coverage is great too. From 60 feet or so in my bedroom, I still get download speeds in the 140's. I tried the Linksys WRT1900 and the D-Link AC3200 Tri-Band routers for a week each and had to return them as they weren't any better than my Asus router. The Asus actually performed better. Get this router guys and girls. It won't disappoint.

I purchased this on Black Friday because it was on sale $100 off and wanted to give it a test drive. First impressions are that it looks like a spaceship, the packaging is really nice and sturdy. I guess you would call this a super high end router. Very easy to setup like all of the other Netgear products and the range is phenomenal. By comparison on the X6 I was getting a maximum of ~125Mbps download and ~9-10Mbps upload and outside of my house I would have 2 bars at most and sometimes 1 with the speeds becoming less than half when you're next to the router. With this router I'm at top speeds of ~150Mbps and consistently throughout the house. When I'm really far away and two levels down from the router I'm still at speeds close to 100Mbps and I always have 2-3 bars and only get to one bar when I'm driving off down the road, this router has range! Overall, buy the router if you want too speeds consistently, one router for the whole house and reliability.

The all in one cable modem/wifi router that was provided to me from my cable company only had a 17’ range which wasn’t cutting my wifi needs for my home network. So I went to Best Buy and explained my heartache to the Geek Squad representative. The Geek Squad rep took me over to the home router and cable modem section of the store and pointed this router out to me. He explained this this Netgear Nighthawk AC5300 was the newest and fastest router on the market. After I recovered from noticing the $400 price tag, the GS rep reassured that I could return the router even after I opened it so I decided to try it out. Once I returned home it was easy to setup, and the free Netgear genie app made it even simpler to setup and understand. In minutes I had set the router up and had screaming wifi throughout my two story 2600sqft home without the use of wifi extenders. In my home I have multiple computers, iphones, ipads, smart TVs, and three gamming consoles connected to my wireless network. Even with all these devices connected to my network this Netgear router can handle it and much much more. If you want superior wifi connectivity in your home and can stomach the $400 price tag than with router is the one for you.

This router is far more than I needed. I bought this to replace an aging netgear 4500. Love the extra lan ports, the qos works just as good my old one, the Vpn features are great. Making it easy to connect to my home network. My wifi was great with my router but this one extended my connectivity to a good 100 ft from my house. Pretty amazing. All in all it does everything and more than I asked for. This is the best on the market. Only con to speak of is its price. When did routers become as expensive as a mid-ranged pc??? Some items to note - this thing is huge. This unit takes a lot of real-estate so plan on making room for it. The lights on this are bright but they can be turned off in the routers settings. Keep it in a ventilated space, I'm sure it's fine in most applications but it does get pretty warm. For a consumer based wifi home router this thing is tailored for the gamer or family with a ton of network needs. I do use a network printer connected through the router, it works perfectly without having to change settings or configs on my pcs from my old router. Setup was seamless. The USB ports work great with a usb 3.0 external hard drive too. This thing is overkill for my 45 devices but it suites my needs well. I definitely recommend!

The speed and reliability are astounding. Even more impressive is the range. I drove 700 feet from my house before the wifi signal finally cut out. Looks pretty cool too. This thing is awesome.

Great quality comes at a price. This access point is a Tri-band router enabling everything on your network to be broken up across several wireless bands, while the router does all the sorting. Consistently pulling max download speed over wireless.

I purchased this equipment to serve as my main router behind my home gateway required by ATT U-Verse. It works great, and could not have been easier to set up. I have contacted their Support team a few times and they were great (the best part is it was just to ask quuestions). I would highly recommend this router to anyone.

First the netgear 90 day free support service didn't happen they said they could help get it installed for one time fee of $20.00 and billed my card $499.99 more then router costed. Then they wouldn't refund it. Second my net speed never changed it was still same as my 10 year old routers.

Recently bought this Router ( Full Price $399.99) , and WOW !! I'm very happy that I did . Price is a little steep , But hey , Hopefully I won't be replacing this for quite some years from now. I love how easy this was to set up , how easy it was to use/download Netgear Genie and label all devices both wired/unwired . This unit is pretty big , As you can see I have it mounted on my wall . I had read a review that had stated that that reviewers unit was hot to touch . I haven't experienced that . My router is slightly warm and that's it . I had planned on teaming this up with the Netgear CM600 Cable Modem . But it isn't here yet . But as for the Nighthawk X8 AC5300 , If you can spare the $400 price , I myself would urge you to invest in this Router. Looks a little snazzy too . :)

This router is excellent. The powered antennas are really the reason this stands out. Stretched my coverage over two stories with a odd staircase as the only penetration point and 3500sq ft+. I get 65-90Mb/s over wireless across the house on a 100Mb fiber source. This allowed me to remove the network extender I had at the top of the staircase -- keeps things much simpler (and less explaination to the technology-challenged). Get a few times when it doesn't connect automatically to my iOS devices, but just need to select it on the wifi list and it's back on. Lots of features but some remain in infancy. Aggregate network streaming would be nice too once it's matured a bit more. For now it's a line item and not much more. All in all I'd buy it just for the increased signal strength -- this helps not only range but signal integrity allowing for less signal disapation and higher speeds which are closer to the wired ethernet potential. Setup is pretty straightforward and Netgear does a decent job of it as long -- but the net genie setup could stand to be tweaked (or at least it's instructions) so that you know you're doing the right thing up front. The actual Setup walkthru for the router is simple if you just need to get started. Only drawback is that while they holes for wall mounting, these holes don't allow the router to be oriented so the AC and Ethernet cables can hang down naturally. So the ports point up and the cables have to bend (most routers are like this however and I've only seen one that corrected this). Overall I'm very happy with it and would definitely recommend getting it if it's in your price range.

    Almost tripled my wifi speeds

With the recent speed increase in my area, I was eager to take advantage of the 300 mbps advertised by Time Warner cable. For some reason I was only getting between 70-90 mbps wirelessly with their leased Arris modem/router. Which was weird because when I had the 50 mbps service, I was getting close to that thru wi-fi. So I thought it was safe to expect a little better than 70-90 mbps with the 300 service. Anyway, I called in and spoke with two different level 3 tech support reps. They explained that they only guaranteed the 300 mbps speed thru ethernet and I was lucky to be getting what I was getting thru wi-fi. They told me they could send out a Time Warner technician to make sure everything was installed correctly. The next day when he came out, he ran all kinds of tests and, ultimately, told me that everything was working but that I may want to try the Netgear Nighthawk router. Long story short, this router is awesome! It has almost tripled my download speeds. I would recommend this to anyone that has been told by their cable provider that their wi-fi speeds are what they are and can't get any better. If I'd had listened to the first few reps I spoke with, I'd still be stuck with their inferior equipment and subpar wi-fi speeds.

Great speed and the beamforming gave me 80% signal strength in a room that I had about 20% strength with my old Motorola router. A bit expensive, and in my honest opinion a bit over priced for what you get, but as far as I was able to tell you are paying for the reliability down the road. So, for quality its a solid 5/5, but the price is pretty hefty, I had to knock it down a star for that considering how many other routers there are within the same equipment level. I only had it for a couple days before swapping it out for a Modem/Router combo (I still went with a Netgear Nighthawk mind you) but in the first couple days I played with this router non-stop and it is very user friendly. I would recommend to anyone who is a hardcore gamer or who is willing to invest in quality higher end gear.

My old Netgear router had seen better days and I was looking for greater signal strength/range and found it with this router. The powered antennas are great and give me the additional distance I needed to cover my house/garage. I've always enjoyed using Netgear routers because of the security options (mac address only) for my network. This router still gives me that option to tighten the security other than just a password for both LAN and WIFI devices. The installation was extremely easy. I had the plugged the router into my WAN and it automatically found the network while I was still pulling out the instructions. Great router, expensive but it is future upgrade proof and I don't replace these that often so I justified the additional cost. I see no issues running wifi, gaming consoles, cell phones, tablets, streaming video and home pcs. It is a work horse and would highly recommend this product to others.

If you need the extra coverage because of a big house or if you have a lot of devices connecting to the same router then it is worth paying more for this beast of a machine. The X8 will not disappoint. I have 3 gaming consoles, 2 computers, 2 phones, 2 tablets and 3 smart TVs connected all spread across a 3500 sq ft house. There are no dead spots and very few places I get less than full bars. Even extends well outside to cover the backyard. And the older/slower devices don't slow down the newer/faster ones. No complaints to add aside from the obvious cost difference. But for us it was well worth it. The setup is simple and the dynamic quality of service does the rest.
