    Better than Expected

I didn't have high expectations, it proved me wrong. The cable modem is in the house, the end unit is in an out building. The out building is serviced by a sub panel. Plugged in the primary to a port on the modem, plugged it in the wall outlet, plugged in the secondary, click - click, lights flashed, connected. Moved the secondary out to the building didn't work, moved it to a different outlet and the lights came on. Works very well. Got a comment, make one here.

Netgear powerline signal strength not great

Set up was fairly easy but the signal strength wasn't as good as it should have been. Overall the product work well but you have to select it as your wifi and select your normal wifi elsewhere in the house as it sets up a separate account

This fixed my home WiFi problem. Our modem/router is on one end of the house and the other end was too far to get a good signal. This thing is like having a router at both ends of the house. Very good product.

This product works great and connects super well as long as you dont keep the side plugged in within range and not a metal structure like a garage or workshop you will get a great connection.

We were having issues with our router reaching all areas of our house. After purchasing the Netgear Powerline 500, we have Internet access anywhere in our house at anytime. The best part is we can move it from one area of the house to the other wait a few minutes and it's back up and running. It really helps out in the basement since our router is on the second story.

This was very easy to setup! I now have a great wireless signal in the upstairs with the main router in the basement. If you need a better wireless signal in your house because your router is on the other side then this is what you need.

I have the router upstairs connected to the access point and the receiver / transmitter at the other end of the house downstairs. I have the PC in the bedroom downstairs connected using the Ethernet connection and the other WiFi devices in the house have no real deadspots and we are one big online connected family. Can't say I have had any problems. Love the device.

Skip these and go with the 200 mbps model

I bought these as a replacement for the Netgear 200 mbps pair that I already owned. My old ones worked great, but I was thinking maybe a little speed increase and extended wifi would be worth the upgrade. Big mistake. Not only were these unreliable (frequent internet disconnects), but the wifi extender capability actually worsened the wifi in my house. I ran a few speed tests (I have Verizon FiOs), and the download speed for these was slightly faster, and the upload speed was actually slower than my old ones. I read all the suggestions about trying different channels and checking outlets in the user forums. Finally I tried to reach Netgear tech support (which is awful), via chat. It put me on hold for 15 minutes, and when it was my turn in the queue it cut me off. I ended up emailing them, and about a WEEK later, someone emails me back telling me to try changing channels, and check the outlet. His advice convinced me of two things 1) the product is defective and 2) he has no idea how to fix it. On the bright side, it did convince me to get my old ones out of the box and reconnect them. Voila - old version back online and all problems are solved, I'll be returning this waste of money to Best Buy.

I have been setting up powerline plugs for over 10 years. These are really great when you need wired Ethernet Connection in a remote part of a house or commercial application. We bought this pair to setup a www.captiveyes.com Cisco access point in a restaurant where it was difficult to run Ethernet cable. The big brother of this product has wireless on the other end and I have set these up over 15 times for customers in large homes. Make sure you test the Internet speed directly connected to the router as well as thru the Netgear Powerline 500 to make sure they work properly.

The goal was to extend or strengthen the WiFi signal of my home network.. This Netgear power line adapter is easy to set up .. and does what it suppose to do -- strengthen wand extended my WiFi it also provide an Ethernet port for quick connect to my laptop or desktop when I need the extra bandwidth for download.

We have a house that requires a couple of access points for us to use WiFi in places far away from the modem... like our bedroom. This Netgear powerline adapter does the job... and does it better than the last one I bought (different manufacturer), but sometimes it does have glitches. I find that if you unplug it then plug it back in, you're back up and running. I am pretty happy with the purchase - we had to use cellular data to surf prior to getting this.

I installed this for my mom's office where she only had access to limited wifi and she needed a Ethernet connection for a voip phone for work. The connection supports her phone and laptop from the built in switch of phone. The adapter also includes a wifi ap with the same ssid as your main system,

Works very well using the primary electrical wiring of the house. Plug into a wall socket near the router, connect to router (wifi or with cable), plug receiver unit into wall socket where the wifi signal is weak and presto, you have good signal where once there was none. Excellent solution.

I did a fair amount of digging around and these looked like one of the best powerline options that Best Buy offers. They are working pretty good. It all depends on the wiring in your house. The wi-fi access point part of this is a nice added bonus but I'm not sure how well it works actually. I don't tend to connect to it anymore as it seemed slower and more apt to disconnect than my normal wi-fi router. The best option is always ethernet cable, but this is a very good alternative when cable isn't possible.

This product is an Excellent Alternative to an Extender and if you plug directly into the device it gives speeds close to 75% of what the actual routers does. I have this devices installed in the family room for my smart tv cause the router is in the office on the second floor.

I used to have a NetGear wifi extender WN3000RP that picked up the incoming wifi signal through the air and rebroadcast it. It was ok, but didn't do a really good job going through brick walls or broadcasting super far (and its ability to receive signals died over time - lasted about 2 years). This works better for my purposes. This is a 2 part device that broadcasts your signal over the electric wires, so wherever you have electricity, you can plug in a receiver and have a wifi spot there. So instead of trying to broadcast across my backyard and through the brick walls of my garage, I can have a wifi spot inside the garage for perfect signals. I was a little scared that once i started using power tools on the same electric lines that the signal was using that it would cause problems, but so far, not at all. Even welding I didn't notice anything (but then maybe Netflix and Pandora buffer, so if there was an issue while using power tools, it would be so brie that I just wouldn't notice) I have only had the product for a month, so I don't now how durable it is. The instructions are pretty bad and unfortunately, i put it together a month ago, so can't remember it well enough to write a better one here. But you should know that the piece that sends the signal into the power lines has to be wired to your router by a LAN cable. It cannot receive wifi. So make sure your router has an open port. The receiver/wifi broadcaster at the other end broadcasts wifi and has an open LAN port. The instructions and labelling are so bad that it's not immediately clear which is the sender and which is the receiver - so let me tell you now, the small one is the sender that you hook up to your router. One additional thing I really like about this vs the WN3000RP is that this device duplicates the wifi network as opposed to creating a different wifi spot. So as you're going from the wifi spot created by your router, to the wifi spot created by the "wireless access point", your laptop or other device doesn't have to switch anything. It just sees the signal get weaker and then stronger as you go from one point to the next. With the WN3000RP, it creates a separate connection, so your tablet or whatever has to say "ooh.. I'm not getting a strong enough signal, I gotta switch to another hot spot that I have permissions for". The internet connection to this device seems faster than the WN3000RP, but it's possible I received a mildly defective WN3000RP. Like I say, it slowly died over 2 years. How far will it send the signal over the wires? I don't know the outer limits, but I can tell you my set up. I can say that in my house, it is going about a hundred feet through 12/2 Romex to a breaker box, then about another 80 feet through underground 6/2 to another breaker box and then another 20 feet of 12/2 Romex to the receiver/wifi spot and the signal is great. I'm sure that performance will vary with the thickness of your wires, how much load you have on them, whether you use a lot of electric motors (electric motors create back current in wires and make the electricity "dirty"). But like I say, I do a lot of power tool stuff in my garage and I didn't experience any problems watching Netflix, or listening to music.
