Bought this 8camera/8channel 2TB battery backup system after researching numerous security systems. I must say this system was very easy to setup, had 4 cameras setup outdoors and running in less than 2 hours. Image quality is excellent.(see image below) The challenge was getting the motion areas/notification tweaked to just the right way to just the needed areas. I would like to see the app for iPhone upgraded in a few ways, 1) there should be a "refresh" icon/option to manually to do image refresh, as images can lag in updating at times. Annoying while surveilling. 2) While you can name the individual cameras, the notification pushes to iphone just say "motion detected", this could be more user friendly and actually let you know which camera is being activated. Overall great system, can be used on multiple devices, smart tv, laptop, phones all at same time.

Basically plug and play setup and beautiful picture. Could have given better instruction on how to use the remote with the system.

Great pic quality. Up and running in 2 hours. Love ability to view on iPhone while away. Night vision is excellent.

Good security system for your house I say more like a investment and you can also download the app and see in real time ( if you have wifi at the house)

For outdoor use: Keeps sending about 70 false notifications every night no matter the setting you pick. You have to turn sensitivity to highest setting so it senses you about 10-15ft away and it also picks up ever bug and bird the goes by. I tried turning down but it does pick anyway up. Frustrating! You call customer service and it takes forever (45min hold time)! For them to answer and when you finally get someone you can understand them because it's someone from another country. Not happy. I also tried buy swan camera kit from Best Buy as well and picture quality is worse and customer service just as bad. Also, the app is horrible, you have to have a super high upload internet speed so it works and I live in a small town that does not offer that. It's better than nothing i guess.

Super easy to install. Took my son and I about 4 hours. Picture quality is great. Had an issue with the set up. Figured it out on my own after being on hold with customer service for over an hour. They never answered and never responded to any emails. Happy with the product, but very unhappy with the customer service.

I spent a few days crawling through my house installing these cameras (Night Owl 1080p HD, 8 cameras, 2TB HD) I checked every single camera before actually crawling through my attic to run wires. No issues. I got everything mounted, hooked up, and looking good. Until....I went to set up my mobile app. The mobile app works (Android) to view cameras, but is very limited in actual operations to me. I bought these cameras to be able to monitor my home when I am both in the house and gone. The MAIN thing I wanted to work is push notifications, this TOTALLY DOES NOT WORK on the Night Owl HD mobile app for me on my phone. I keep getting a register error. I went to the Night Owl website to register my product, put in all the info, and guess what, there is NOTHING that lets me know if my product was registered or not. I went to check the how-to videos, guess what, they don't work either! I am happy with the cameras, but for $600, I want good support along with a mobile app that actually works. I had to leave my wireless cameras up because they actually do send me push notifications, then when it alerts me, I go and check my $600 Night Owl camera system... Needless to say, I've had them 5 days, and been installing for 5 days, I BET it will take me ONE day to take them back down and return them...just watch. Don't buy these cameras if you want to monitor you home from their mobile app, the app alone makes it not worth the purchase. I opened a chat to get some help, check out the pictures I have attached. You will see they closed my chat window without ever even responding to my chat request!! I'm soooo upset right now. Nice cameras and DVR....GARBAGE support and mobile app!!

I was looking for a good reliable, clear picture system and I definately found it! Easy install & setup. Highly recommend!

My first security system and it was a easy install and setup, connected to my internet to view cameras when away from home using the app. Night vision is good when theres some light on near the camera, i have motion sensor lights so thats helps out. In complete darkness i say 15-20ft max with the night vision The app has some bad reviews but havent had any issues with it.

It shows good quality pictures (although one of the cameras took a while to light up in darkness) and I like that there is a backup battery system. A guide shows how to hook up equipment, but as it does not show how to setup and use once installed, I wouldn't recommend for those who are not computer savvy. Also that card that says "covers installation" is misleading. It's just a suggestion of someone who will install it for about twice the cost of the product.

This was the best purchase we have made this year. We can let the kids outside to play and still do things around the house. I can check on the kids from anywhere. It was very easy to install and to use. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Quick and easy.

i like the resolution, but it's always disconnecting.

The system was easy to installbwith basic knowledge. I had access to my attic which made it even easier. Make sure to follow prints exactly when first starting the dvr.

The camera and quality of picture from the system is great. Night vision works as long as there is a little back ground light in place. It is really dark in my backyard and you can't see hardly anything on the camera, hope to help some by installing a light on my shed. The only issue is with the software to access the videos from the computer. I use a mac and can bring up the cameras and view them but searching for a video to watch has not been accomplished. I have to move the videos to a usb drive then plug into the computer to watch them, not a big deal but would be nice if the software was more user friendly. Viewing on my phone works you just have to give it time to connect. You need to spend some time playing around with the DVR to figure out how to use and I watched to videos posted on the Night Owl website to learn how to use most of the DVR features. Be Patient!! I have not tried to search for videos on my phone. It does record pretty much non-stop on one of the cameras so having the 2 TB hard drive is nice. Look like it will record for around 45 days.

I read many reviews online for all kinds of systems. I have no clue about the technical terms.i got this for the price.works great. Daytime images are crystal clear.its very hard to see at night though.i cannot make out types of cars in the street and cam is only 30 feet from the road.overall,i like the system,just could be better night vision.

I use this for my business- it was very easy to set up, the pictures are clear, software is easy to navigate. Though it's a harder install than a wireless system (having to run the wires all the way back to the DVR box), there's no dropped signal or interruptions in stream/recording. I would highly suggest this model to use at a home or small business.

Excellent security cameras!!! Picture quality is super HD clear. I purchased these for my business. I normally would buy Samsung cameras but wish I could switch them all out to Night owls. Easy setup once you install your cameras. Just download the app and scan the sticker code on DVR and your set. Would recommend night owl brand if your in the market.

I have NOT had a good experience with the DVR on this unit. The cameras and quality of video is fine. The problem lies with playback. On my Samsung Galaxy, the app is terrible. Viewing live is OK but play back is nearly impossible. Try to scrub to a specific time and it will rarely update and start playing. Try playing on fast forward, good luck. Timeline will show yellow marks indicating motion but it doesn't offer the option to jump from motion to motion during playback. Can only view 1 camera at a time during playback...not that it actually works. Try to turn your phone to view video in landscape mode...HA....app immediately errors out and closes. If you're a home-based user like me, it's safe to say that the vast majority of your viewing will be done on a phone, so the app needs to be actually usable. The computer based system isn't really that good either. It does not feel like 2018 software....it seems like they've probably upgraded the cameras over the years, but the software is still like they're still including SD cameras with no NV. I was in a hurry and didn't properly research. If I was looking for a system again, I would make User Interface the #1 selling point. The cameras are almost all identical anyway at this point. I'd also consider wireless...unless you really need a LOT of cameras (which can get pricey if going wireless), they're much easier and the UI is always very up to date for those.

I don’t have any experience when it comes to setting up cameras and I gotta say it was kinda hard to set up, personally. I’ve had them for more than a year now and they’re not bad. I’d say NightOwl stands up to its name - if you put a camera where there’s no/not much light at night, you’ll still be able to see fairly clearly. I would suggest paying a little extra an opt for a better, newer tech one though because the app for these cams do tend to give a lot of trouble.
