I am definitely what you would call a hardcore A7X fan. I have listened to them since the release of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet when I was 8 years old. My favorite album is Waking the Fallen by far.
Now for the review. I honestly think the closest sounding album to this they have done is Diamonds in the Rough. It reminds me of that album the most. There is elements of self-titled and City of Evil though. Honestly, I hate City of Evil. I think it is probably their worst album, but the album "Nightmare" definitely has a lot of similar qualities to it.
This is a great album if you love Avenged Sevenfold. If you like City of Evil or Self-titled then you should definitely pick this one up. The run time is over 60 minutes, so you get your money's worth.
I rate this an excellent when comparing it to all types of music out there, but for Avenged Sevenfold I would give it a 4/5. It's not as amazing as their Self-Titled album or Waking the Fallen to me, but it's definitely a great album.

Best A7X Album to Date

This album represents the progression of A7X from a struggling metal core band to the threshold of metal history with the likes of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. What's even more impressive in this album is the resilience of the band in the wake of The Rev's death. Some of the best songs that will be played and covered by others for years to come include "Nightmare", "Welcome to the Family", and "Fiction." Furthermore, M. Shadows' vocals on "God Hates Us" proves that his vocal surgeries did not prohibit his once signature scream.

I liked other albums done by Avenged Sevenfold, and bought this album based upon the previous sound.
This album didn't disappoint on any level, and am glad I made the purchase.
If you are a fan of any of the band's previous songs, this is a must-have album for your listening library.

This is a great record from start to finish with no filler. Each song is unique which separates Avenged Sevenfold from their contemporaries. You can't pass this up, especially at the sale price!

This record was the one that initially got my attention to A7. This is quality hard rock all the way through the record. Only flaw being that Hail to the King is even better. :)

I'm a big Avenged Sevenfold fan. This album is really good, but it's not one of their best IMO. I prefer WAKING THE FALLEN the most. I bought this CD because I love the singles on it, but the entire record is pretty good.

This is one of my favorite bands. And this album is a progressive, melodic, soulful, ride. While being all these things it is still undoubtedly the recognizable A7X sound. Nightmare kicking off the album is a classic A7X jam that you can bang your head to similar to jams like crital acclaim, bat country, and welcome to the family follows suit. Our first bit of soul and emotion comes with Dangerline similar feel to sidewinder gives you somewhat of an empathetic feel into what M. Shadows is wailing about. Then So Far Away follows up with more soul being about the late Rev. You can really feel the groups grief within the music of losing a dear lifelong friend. Other highlights include: tonight the world dies, fiction, and the mammoth closer, save me. Perfect way to end this outstanding record in my opinion. The album as a whole has a great flow that keeps the listnener interested through out the 70+ minutes. This band ability to mix metal jams, ballads, and lengthy compostions in al the right places is a talent that other groups need to take notes on. Variety is the spice of life to albums that break the 40 min rule. Nightmare is a wellcrafted piece of music showcasing the progressive metal side of A7X.

Personally, their self titled album is my favorite, but this is up there. It's no WTF or CoE, but it is a true A7X album.
