I wanted a fixed lens strictly portraits and low lighting situations for a reasonable price. after doing my research and reading reviews I chose this one. I am very pleased with my decision. I attached pictures so you can judge for yourself. I have a Nikon D90 that i’ve Been using for 10 years.

To be honest my kit lens handles many if not most situations I have come across in the first 6 months of owning a DSLR. However, this lens provides greater flexibility for close up pictures as well as really cool background blur which I didn't realize I would enjoy as much as I do (see attached).
If you are thinking of buying a fixed lens just buy it.

I was so thrilled to add the Nikon DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens to my Nikon 5300DX camera. I was having trouble shooting close-ups, especially portrait shots. This lens allows me to take great close-ups shots (as close as 1 foot) and beautiful portraits! My photos are crystal clear and detailed, so happy with my purchase!

I just used this lens for the first time yesterday. This is the third picture I took…my Grandson. I am very happy with the lens. I can’t wait to use it to take photos of flowers.

I’m new to photography and bought this lens as an upgrade to my kit lens. The images with this look sharp. I’m able to use it for portraits, close up, and landscape images. Keep in mind you can’t zoom in with it.

Very good lens. Excellent image quality. Overall I am very happy with it and use it quite frequently when photographing people. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a macro focus mode.

The Nikon - AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G is a very versatile and luminous lens. We love using it in our studio for portraits. Works very well in low light conditions.

Would give the lens 5 stars, but when shooting astrophotography taking the camera out of autofocus, the lens loses focus. I had to tape the focus in place.
