Got this during the PS Days of Play!
Paid $48 w/ GCU and I absolutely love the extras! I'm a sucker for steelbooks and this one looks awesome.
Comes with Season Pass and extra DLC. Also the Dark Horse Art Book.
All in all, if you can get this cheap, buy it!

I've only scratched the surface of this game, but can say the game play is excellent. So many areas of fighting with a beautiful moon in the background, for example. Create a character was rather fun and shows promise for many cool looking characters.
This game seemed brutal at first, but sticking with it, rewards a good time.

This is the definitive Nioh. Better in every way from controls, to weapons, to enemy types to 3 player coop mode.
If you liked Nioh 1. Then this is a must buy. Highly recommend

If you like venturing in dark, spooky locales in a mythical version of sengoku-era Japan, and killing monsters like in Dark Souls or Bloodbourne, this game is 100% for you. The environments aren’t terrifying like Bloodbourne, but the combat in this game is so much better. You can transform into one of three monster types and beat up other monsters. If you played the first Nioh, quite a few things changed, such as using the soul cores dropped by defeated bosses and enemies to conjure a ghost that uses a signature attack from said enemy, which can inflict dot, heavy ki damage, or even dual elemental damage. After you master the new mechanics, the game will be a tad bit easier, but man did they up the difficulty here, so much that getting help is actively encouraged. You can either offer an ochoko cup at a shrine you use to level up, (searches for a real-time player,) or you can run up to a blue sword in the ground called a, “benevolent grave,” and invoke the player’s character who died. The new yokai realm mechanic is interesting, it changes certain areas in your surroundings so that they are darker, ominous-looking, and contain tougher enemies to fight. You’re stamina also regenerates slower inside the realm, so if an enemy breaks you’re guard with a strong attack, you might be out of ki long enough to get wrecked. But at $60, there’s so much content for your money.

A Fantastic Follow-Up

Nioh was my favorite game of 2017. I have always greatly preferred it to Dark Souls and Bloodborne, which certainly influenced Nioh in terms of crushing difficulty and similar leveling system.
Like it's predecessor, instead of having a hub world with surrounding areas like DS and BB, Nioh 2's epic story has you teaming up with fictional and non-fiction characters to battle demons across feudal Japan. While Nioh had you controlling a fully-voiced, white male hero named William, Nioh 2 (which is a prequel) allows you to create a silent protagonist of any race and gender. While I preferred William's part in the original story, the character creator in Nioh 2 is one of the most detailed I've ever encountered in a game. Whatever hero you make will look greatly detailed and blend right in to the cutscenes, as if designed as the sole protagonist by Team Ninja themselves.
The combat varies depending on whatever build you wish to make, whether it be an axe-wielding brute, a balanced swordsman, a nimble ninja, a magic user, or anything in between. Returning to the sequel is the ability to summon other players into your game to provide you with much-needed assistance. However, now you have the option to bring in help in the form of AI-controlled protagonists from other players.
If you have the patience to learn Nioh 2's intricate systems and to take things one enemy at a time, you will be rewarded with an epic journey that combines the soul of Dark Souls and the aesthetic of an Onimusha game into an amazing, rewarding experience.

Ever since I've been playing this, it was such a blast! The combat feels much more refined and polished and enemies are no longer a chore to take down, especially the Yokai enemies. Although after a few missions, I felt pretty burnt out, so I highly recommend not playing in long hours as it does get repetitive.

I'll say it's outright better than the first game. It plays better, the combat is deep. and it's been given major improvement to the graphics and animations. The loot and gear system is just as overwhelming as the first game, which could be viewed as good or bad.
I just want to talk about the difficultly of the game though, because I would guarantee some people will probably quit the game before completing the intro mission. This game makes me want to go play the Soulsbourne games to relax. The difficulty at the start of the game is overly hard for the sake of being hard, which is kind of a turnoff even as some who is a veteran of these games. It does get a little more balanced as you gone on, but prepare yourself.
If you're a masochistic gamer like myself who enjoys tough games then you'll probably love it. Also, the special edition is probably worth it considering you get the season pass included, and the art book and steel case.

Like the first Nioh, this is a fast paced action game that requires you to focus and study your enemy. It’s not like your standard hack and slash game, so if you’re looking for an easy experience, this is not that.
The special edition is gorgeous, with a steelbook with a matte and shiny finish, and the art book. The addition of a season pass just makes the package even better.
The movement animation is still a bit wonky, not as fluid as you might see in Red Dead or Assassins Creed, but serves the purpose of functionality and utility in a game where the combat and RPG elements are the core of the game.

Team Ninja is renown for their games difficulty (Ninja Gaiden for example). This game takes the Soulsborne / Sekiro formula and adds their spin on it. Gameplay is actually really fun, but it's way more punishing than any of the From Software games. I beat all dark souls, bloodborne, and sekiro, all with quite amount of punishment being dealt but I was able to master everything as time went on. This game seriously does not relent and I was not much of a fan. However, I do know people actually really like it to be hard that way. So if that's your thing, go for it. Just know co-op does not function like dark souls, you get like a "lives" system. Once the meter depletes its game over and you have to restart the entire section of the map over...

Love the steel book and art book it came with in the special edition. Game is great and rewarding especially if you’re familiar playing the first. Took a little bit to get back in the groove of the fighting style but after that it’s just really fun to play. Loading times are fast and gameplay and graphics are amazing. Plus you get to create your own character and some really cool new additions in this game.

The combat in Nioh 1 was superb, but there were times where it felt slightly clunky. Two fixes that by making combat smoother, adding new skills that makes thing flow a bit easier. My only negative gripe is that the game isn’t as difficult as the first one, however you will still feel rewarded after killing that boss that’s been killing you for hours!

If you are reading reviews and you like this style of game, just wait for a good price and buy it. Feels a bit like Nioh 1.5 rather than Nioh 2, but it's fantastic overall. I find it a bit easier than the first game, but still really rewarding and very addicting.

This is a great game and easily one of the best game releases in the last month. If you were a fan of the first one then this is for you. With character creation available, easy to understand tutorials and better boss battles, this game will be a GOTY contender. I would like to see an easier difficulty level available in the future for casual players though. Difficulty of enemies can over the top at times and discouraging for those that just want to experience the story and have fun.

Nioh 2 is on par with the best of the best souls-likes. It rivals and sometimes surpasses titles like Dark Souls 3. Nioh and Nioh 2 are some of my favorite PS4 games. I love Nioh, its insanely fun, it has deep combat/gameplay, and you can spend 100's of hours exploring higher difficulty levels and higher tier gear giving you a great value for the cost. Graphics are excellent, art style is great, improved music and enemy variety compared to Nioh 1, new and interesting gameplay elements, and interesting story. BUY THIS GAME and you will not be disappointed - fun, enjoyable, immersive, challenging, rewarding, and high quality game!!

This is a difficult souls-like game that can be frustrating at times. That being said, it is extremely rewarding if you can overcome the difficulty. The story, world, and lore are steeped in Japanese mythology and the enemies and environments are well crafted and visually appealing. I am only about 5-8 hours in but I am hooked and will most likely attempt to complete this game. While I am playing on normal I believe there is an easy setting for those who find it too challenging (no shame, it really can get tough). I highly recommend if you enjoyed games like Dark Souls and Bloodbourne or for those who enjoy Japanese culture and don't shy away from a good fight.
