I’ve had my KQi 200P for a little while now, and I’ve put enough miles on it to give a thorough review. To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first if spending this much on an electric scooter was worth it, but after daily use, I can confidently say this scooter has exceeded all my expectations. Build Quality & Design: The first thing you notice when unboxing is how solid the scooter feels. The frame is sturdy and well-built, clearly made with high-quality materials. It has a modern, sleek look that feels both sporty and professional, not like a toy. The wide deck gives me plenty of room to stand comfortably, and the handlebars feel solid with no wobble. NIU really put effort into the design — it feels premium and reliable. Performance & Speed: The 200P tops out around 20 mph, which I thought might feel slow at first, but honestly, it’s the sweet spot for commuting. It’s fast enough to keep up with bike lanes and city traffic, but not so fast that it feels unsafe. Acceleration is smooth and strong — it picks up speed quickly, and even on hills it doesn’t struggle the way cheaper scooters do. The motor feels powerful yet controlled, which makes it enjoyable and safe to ride. Ride Comfort: This is one of the biggest highlights for me. The large 10-inch tires, combined with the suspension system, make rides smooth even on rough pavement. Potholes, bumps, and uneven sidewalks don’t rattle my bones like they did on cheaper scooters I’ve tried. The handlebars sit at a perfect height (I’m about average height), and the riding position feels natural. Long commutes don’t leave me sore or tired. Braking & Safety: The brakes are outstanding. The 200P comes with dual disc brakes plus regenerative braking, and you can really feel the stopping power. They’re responsive without being jerky, which inspires a lot of confidence when riding in traffic or downhill. The bright headlight and taillight system also make me feel safer riding at night. The lights are strong and visible, not the weak little LEDs I’ve seen on other scooters. Battery Life & Range: The advertised range is around 31 miles (depending on terrain, weight, and riding mode), and in my real-world use, I can comfortably get 20–25 miles per charge without worrying. I typically ride in Sport mode because I like the full power, and even then, it lasts longer than expected. Charging is straightforward, and the charger is compact enough to carry with me if I need it. For most commuters, this scooter easily lasts several days before needing a charge. Portability & Storage: It folds down securely, and while it’s not the lightest scooter, it’s manageable to carry up a flight of stairs or load into the trunk of a car. The folding mechanism feels safe and locks solidly in place, so there’s no fear of it collapsing while riding. Smart Features & App: The NIU app adds a nice layer of convenience. I can lock/unlock the scooter, check battery levels, track mileage, and even update firmware from my phone. It feels like owning a modern vehicle rather than just a scooter. The locking feature through the app is helpful, but I still recommend using a physical lock if you’re leaving it outside for long periods. Everyday Use: For me, the 200P is perfect for commuting to school and running errands. It saves me so much time compared to walking or taking public transport, and it’s fun enough that I look forward to riding it every day. It handles rain and wet conditions decently well too, thanks to its IP rating, though I try not to push it in heavy downpours. Pros: • Premium build quality, feels very durable • Smooth ride with excellent suspension and big tires • Strong, safe braking system • Great range and battery performance • Solid top speed for commuting • Bright lights for nighttime safety • Useful app with smart features Cons: • On the heavier side for carrying upstairs • The app lock is nice, but not a replacement for a real lock • A little pricey compared to entry-level scooters (but worth it for the quality) Final Thoughts: If you’re serious about getting an electric scooter for commuting, the NIU KQi 200P is absolutely worth it. It strikes the perfect balance between speed, safety, comfort, and durability. It’s not the cheapest option, but you really do get what you pay for here. Compared to rental scooters like Lime and Bird, this feels like a luxury ride — smoother, faster, more reliable, and built to last. I honestly can’t imagine going back to taking buses or walking long distances now. This scooter makes commuting fun, efficient, and stress-free. Highly recommended for students, city commuters, or anyone who wants a dependable, everyday scooter.

I purchased this scooter after reviewing several others because it received great ratings. The setup was easy, I charged it per the instructions, but was unable to get it to power on. All the indicators showed that it was completely charged and because it was a weekend, I was unable to receive any technical support, if any was needed. I returned it. Probably would not purchase again.

This is my second electric scooter, and the first by NIU. I’ve had so much fun zipping around the neighborhood that I thought it would be good to have another for family members to join me. Assembly is a simple matter, involving unfolding the front tube, inserting the wiring into the tube and fastening a few screws with the included tool. The scooter comes pre-charged with enough juice to try it out, which you’ll want to do right away. A full charge takes 4 or 5 hours. For your first ride, you won’t be able to go faster than 9 mph for the first 200m, which is a safety feature to give you a bit of time to get used to it. The display is very simple and only shows a few bits of information, such as remaining charge (shown as bars), current speed, mode and Bluetooth connection. No distance is shown on the display, it is only shown in the app, which is a must. I wish that more information were shown on the display, and that more settings could be done right from the scooter. As it is, you can switch between e-save mode (limits speed to 9 mph max) and sport, with a top speed of 18.5 mph. Other speed-limiting modes can be selected in the app. A double-press on the main button toggles the light, and five presses puts the scooter in pedestrian mode, useful if you need to walk along beside it. The pneumatic tires and dual shock absorbers do a good job making the ride smoother. Compared to my other 2 year-old scooter, the 200P definitely feels nicer going over rough spots in the road. Deck space is adequate, and is pretty standard for the category. The deck is covered in a nice grip tape that is replaceable, which is a nice touch. New on this model are integrated turn signals in the handles. I’m torn as to what I think about these. They beep and put out a nice bright light, but they’re likely to be hidden by your hands or body, limiting their usefulness. In the dark they’re very bright and easy to see, so perhaps that’s their main use case. The button to turn them on is big, but it’s easy to hit the wrong one. Nonetheless, this is a good addition that only adds to the safety features of the scooter. The headlight is nice and bright and puts out a square-shaped beam that covers the road in front of you very well. There’s also a daytime running halo that is available if you desire. I really like the lighting options included here. Braking is extremely important, so let’s talk about it separately. The brakes are smooth and work well. There’s only one brake caliper, for the front drum brake. There’s also an e-brake in back, but it works automatically. There’s also another feature that I’m really liking—regenerative e-braking. With this turned on, the e-brake engages as soon as you let off the throttle. A small amount of power goes back in the battery as you slow down. This is a nice feature that should save on wear and tear on the drum brake. Settings allow you to choose the level of regenerative braking you desire, from none to strong. The handlebars fold down to allow you to pick up and carry the scooter if you need to do that. It weighs about 53.6 pounds, so it’s not light, but neither is it too heavy to load it into your car to take it with you. On the left handlebar you’ll find a bell to allow you to let others know you’re behind them. The app is very nice-looking and well designed. It’s easy to find the settings you want, but I find it curious that it only tracks your distance if you think to turn on the tracking at the beginning of each ride. If you forget to do that, nothing is tracked. Remaining charge is prominently shown, as is the button to lock the scooter. Once locked, attempts to move it more than a foot will lock the wheels and sound the alarm and blink the lights. While this won’t stop someone from just picking it up, it will make it harder to actually use it. The NIU Kqi 200P electric scooter is a very nice addition to the crowded market of electric scooters. It’s well built with a nice set of features at a reasonable price. It provides a smooth ride with nice acceleration, and enough range to make it useful. I don’t know the history of the NIU company or how good their customer service is, but I’m pleased with this product so far, and I’m happy to add this one to my stable. I think you will be as well.

So right off, the speed can be more than expected so gear up with helmets and pads. The right handle serves as your throttle (speed), you must turn while grabbing and hold it in the position you feel comfortable cruising at. The more you turn the throttle forward, the faster the speed. Try to do it in increments and turn slowly both to speed up and slow down or it’ll jolt you unexpectedly. Same with slowing down, you want to anticipate as much as possible when you’ll need to slow down and release the throttle slowly and not just let go of it or you’ll again jolt yourself. So there’s a learning curve here. Best to try it on a straight street with no hills and get used to it before venturing out in busier streets. I love the turn signal features but again you need to practice bc the turn signals are on the same side as the throttle and so you would need to hold the throttle in position on speed while using your thumb to press the signal button. There are reflectors in different locations to make you more visible at night and it comes with a light in front which can be turned on and off. Also, the signal lights have a hazard light function which I seemed to trigger to turn in multiple times with each use. A great function nonetheless to have. The left handle comes with a brake you squeeze with your hand, which you should do very slowly. The unit will come to almost a stop by just releasing the throttle carefully so you need to practice on different speed roads and terrains to understand what’s the best way to slow down and stop. The unit comes with shocks which are amazing and very much appreciated. The tires are a good size and have good traction. The unit comes with a manual bell like you would find on an old bicycle. Use your thumb to get that snapping and dinging. The unit is heavy but understandably it should be to be sturdy. I would say this is more for a person who can understand all the uses of the parts and can demonstrate use and safety in handling it in traffic conditions. When there are people, animals, automobiles and weather factors such as wind and road conditions such as hills, slopes or curves, it would require someone who is knowledgeable of these conditions while using such a device. I would recommend this product.
