I have had Norton for years. This product was on a significant discount when purchased. I would highly recommend it if you find it for as low of a price as I did.

Everything works fine except for the fact that the vpn dont give an option to set India as country which is a let down considering that’s one of the main staples for a gamer.

SUMMARY:
Let’s start off with the elephant in the room. The performance. If you were like me, you’ve stayed away from Norton like a plague because it used to dramatically bog down your systems performance. But those days are gone as computers have gotten a lot more powerful and software has gotten better. I tried this software on three different devices varying in performance from a general laptop, to an old school gaming computer, to a near top of the line gaming computer and on all of them it used less than 1% of my CPU. Before this I was using a competitor, who utilized the cloud to help offload resources to reduce the impact on your system and was touted as one of the least impactful antiviruses on systems. Surprisingly, I’ve found that this software uses less resources, is easier to navigate, does more, is less intrusive, and scans through my computer faster while still providing the same 10/10 protection that Norton is known for the same price if not a bit less. So, I’ve gone from a naysayer to a fan.
SETUP/FEATURES:
Setup is straightforward. First you uninstall your previous security software if applicable. Then you create a Norton Account, if you don’t already have one, and download and install the software. Then technically you are done with your device security as most people won’t need to change anything from the stock settings.
Some other features that I recommend running after initial setup is a quick scan, full system scan, and performance scan to ensure your computer is running at its peak capacity. All of that took me about 20 – 30 minutes (which included about 6 hard drives which were filled with stuff) which was significantly faster than my previous antivirus which took so long I usually ended up cancelling it after an hour or so. The performance impact during this time was significant (taking about 50 – 60% of my CPU and 100% of my HDD/SSD which is to be expected. But you could still do work while this was running.
This software also comes with a ton of other features such as dark web monitoring, secure VPN, Cloud Backup, Password Manager, Parental Controls, and Privacy Monitor. All of these are optional and require setup which can take a lot of time. The more down the rabbit hole you go with these things the more complicated things get and the more it can impact performance. Most users will probably already have some of these features from competitors. I would argue that these features are usually a bit better on standalone products than an all included pack. If you don’t already have these setup from competitors I do recommend utilizing them.
A quick rundown of each is as follows:
The Dark Web Monitoring allows you to put in your personal information manually, so they can check their databases to alert you of any breaches to your ISP, bank accounts, credit cards, driver’s license, passport, gamertag, etc. so you know to change those passwords or accounts.
The Secure VPN can limit your overall internet speed and may not work on all websites just due to the way a VPN works. I can’t say how good it is because I’ve never used an VPN. But it coming from a trusted brand goes a long way.
The Cloud Backup just backs up information. I didn’t use this either since I use another service.
Same with the password manager. But out of all the other features I would recommend using this if you don’t already have one. As it makes life a lot easier and your stuff a lot more secure. Initial setup is cumbersome as you must manually put in all your account logins and passwords (or ideally create new ones for each one). But once setup you install a plugin which can autofill your stuff which is nice.
All of these are appreciated and really is an all in one stop for protecting your computer and your personal information that most other security programs require you to buy separately making this an excellent deal. But also, each one doesn’t do as good of a job as standalone products.
For you hardcore users there are a lot of other features that you can dive into that I won’t be discussing. I liked that you can turn off notifications, scanning, or other background tasks that will take resources when gaming which turns on automatically. It worked well for me and I didn’t notice any performance drops in my games on any of my three systems. I also didn’t install any of the other “features” such as them changing my search engine or other plugins on my browser to provide more protection as those usually do tighten up security at the expense of performance as everything needs to filter through them to get vetted.
NAVIGATION:
Navigation is relatively basic but I think it could be more intuitive and easier. As a lot of your options are buried behind several menus and clicks which can feel a bit overwhelming with all the different features and toggles. Others will launch to the Norton webpage likely to reduce the overall load on your system which is appreciated but also frustrating.
