Oh my god. This game was amazing! The music is phenomenal and Yasunori Nishikk stays true to the sound of the series. The Octopaths are all such great people each with a heart of gold. I have cried(a lot), laughed, and geeked out screaming at so many moments. The stories were engaging and left you wondering at times. I just started the final chapter involving all the characters but I know the game does not disappoint! It’s based on old-school turn-based RPGs so you have to GRIND. But it’s worth it if you have a love for the game.

The eight distinct characters each bring their own unique tales, weaving together a rich and complex storyline that keeps players on the edge of their seats. The depth of character development and the intertwining narratives contribute to a truly memorable and engaging role-playing experience.
Visually, Octopath Traveler II is a masterpiece. The unique HD-2D art style, combining pixel art with modern visual effects, creates a mesmerizing world that is both nostalgic and cutting-edge. The attention to detail in the environments, character designs, and dynamic lighting elevates the game's aesthetic appeal to new heights.
Gameplay mechanics remain a highlight, with the return of the innovative Boost and Break system. Octopath Traveler 2 continues the tradition of a love language to JRPGs by Square Enix. The combat is tight and the world is a breath of fresh air to explore. Each of the stories feels consequential.
Do you like job systems? They are here and actually matter to making great characters.
Do you like awesome music? The soundtrack is absolutely incredible and contains absolute bangers.

Awesome follow up to one of the best modern RPGs. Turn based combat is phenomenal and the characters are all very well done. The changes between the first and this one are all very positive. Free Steel book is beautiful as well

The first Octopath was good, but this one was amazing. The stories and characters felt richer, if only because of how beautifully they come together this time. Each character is very distinct, and the player is given a lot of freedom in how to experience their stories, in what order. There's a unique narrative there for each player, should they choose to let their imagination run with it.
The battle system is still turn-based perfection. Also, each character having multiple path actions makes it easier to use them than before.
Playing the first one is not required outside of a few easter eggs, so easy to recommend this one first.

The basics of the battle system are the same as the first because why mess with perfection? The new systems feel truly additive, the music and characters are great. And some of the structure is improved over the first game.

When I first played the first Octopath Traveler, there's was this sense of intrigue. It looked like games of the 16-bit era... but upscaled. I remember seeing the game in motion for the first time, and I was blown away by the beautiful graphics.
The second time around, that sense of graphical beauty has somewhat diminished. Maybe my eyes got used to it, but with the sequel, I'm just playing it for the story, and I find myself just wanting to complete it for the sake of completing it.
You once again have 8 characters, and each of them has multiple chapters to complete. There's still the sense of adventure as you go from town to town. The game holds your hand by showing you what level it recommends you be in order to survive that part of the map.
I kinda wish you could turn that off in the beginning. For me it's fun learning what parts of the map are too advance for my current levels.
The stories are well written, and the characters are likeable. This time you have the opportunity to see some of the characters share some stories, so this is a major upgrade from the original.
The music is still whimsical, and fitting for most of the sequences in the game.
The cycle though for each character is similar. You go from chapter to chapter with the level requirement increase, and face a boss at the end.
I'm sorry to say that the sequel actually feels like something I would have played during the Super Nintendo era. I don't see any major advances that makes me think I would like a third one, unless some major changes are made.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just, not anything amazing.
