Great little receiver that produces good sound to my speakers, provides me with the new Dolby Atmos (sounded great on MI:Rogue Nation) and DTS:X, has connection for my phono turntable and many other options. Very easy to set-up. The manual was fairly basic but you can go on-line for the advanced manual. I also liked the price point. Thumbs up for this receiver.

I thought I had done enough research to know I was getting both a good receiver and a good price. But the receiver exceeds my expectations. The sound is fantastic. The bargain too was exceptional. Thanks, Best Buy.

purchased a sr705 when i came out, it has never failed. recently upgraded to a 4k/3d tv and had to upgrade the receiver as well. stuck with onkyo since i was already familiar with the controls and have no regrets. even louder and clearer than the 705

Having the pleasure of owning this receiver for the last three weeks, I can say that this is an excellent receiver for you to consider. I had a real need to get an HDMI-enabled receiver for some of my professional duties but also as an upgrade for our aged Sherwood Newcastle that only supported Dolby Digital and DTS. While it still does a good job, I was tired of seeing the downmixing to Dolby Surround for many of the current titles. Watching our "Tron: Legacy" Blu-ray in a downmix was just downright annoying! In addition, I needed a receiver that was 4-ohms certified, as I have a substantial investment in 4-ohms speakers. Enter the TX-NR747 that's done nothing but a fantastic job with everything I've put to it. Having both rear and height speakers, I wanted to get the full HD experience for every Blu-ray we own and I've not been disappointed yet. Switching between speaker configurations is a snap BUT you'll need a multi-channel speaker selector to do it...the TX-NR747 only supports rear or height channels but not both at the same time...there's only one set of binding posts to support each channel type natively...the receiver is only rated to push signals to 7.2 speakers at a time. If you're looking for a 4-ohms, THX certified receiver, you won't find a better one for the price. If your home theater room is sized like mine (13' x 19'), you'll find that the sound field is just as good (or better) than your local cinema. I find that missing a movie in the theater isn't a big deal, anymore.
