My old Samsung receiver died after six years or so. To replace it, I actually first bought the Onkyo - TX 5.2-Ch. 4K Ultra HD (model TX-SR373 ) which comes with no speakers thinking I can reuse my existing speakers. Before even opening the box I realized the new Onkyo receiver did not have the right connection to my old subwoofer. Rather than fiddling with trying to make that work I realized I can get this Onkyo - HT 5.1-Ch. 4K Home Theater System (with the six speakers) for only $50 more (after a price match with Amazon). The only issue I have with the system (thus the rating of 4) is that the wires included are too short, especially the ones to the surround speakers. I had to splice/extend both surround and front wires. Other than that, the installation went pretty smooth. I do like the sound quality - for the price of course. The reviews I read regarding the sound getting a bit muffled above a volume of 50 is somewhat true. I've setup my system in the family room in my basement which is not that big, so this is not such a big deal for me. I don't see us going over a volume of 50. But I suppose for a real large room this might be an issue. BTW, BestBuy's product description suggests the remote is not included which I thought was odd, but it actually is included.

Great option for an apartment. It may not have all the fanciest and latest tech but it does provide good sound quality and it will power bigger speakers without the need for amplification. I have 4 bookshelf speakers they all sound great. 2 are Polk 2 are Dayton Audio. My Center is Dayton Audio. My Sub is still the one that came with it which will suffice for apartment use. (Neighbors will like you for it) That being said the speakers provided are good. I just recommend upgrading over time if you are serious about your audio. That being said its hard to beat this 250 (on sale) out the door and home with a great system. Everything thinks Onkyo is off brand. It is not.... They have been in the game for a long time they know what they are doing they also share a parent company with Pioneer and Gibson. I would not pass this over if you are a beginner with a few hundred in your pocket

My bluray surround system died which got me looking at upgrading for a replacement. I found this system with multiple input options along with bluetooth connectivity for a great price. The system was easy to set up and provides decent surround sound. It has 4 hdmi inputs, bluetooth along with older connections for wide compatibility. The system is a great deal for the price. My minor complaints are that the main unit is quite large to fit on a shelf. It could be a bit louder but it works fine without shaking my house. I would have also liked wireless rear speakers like my old system but I added the rocketfish system to address that. I have very happy with the system. At $249 it was a good deal.

I was looking for a replacement 5.1 system as my current one was on it last leg (audio de-syncing and sub popping sound from bass). I didn’t have a lot of money to spend and I didn’t want a sound bar. I did my research and this one came out on top. The audio clarity from this unit is fantastic and I love the fact I can plug in all my devices into the receiver. I did get this during the holidays for $250, but it is still worth the $299 price. If there is one down side, from what I can tell, it is not compatible with LPCM (PCM only). So my Nintendo Switch will not play in 5.1 even thought the switch detects all 6 speakers. Not really a fault of the receiver, I just wanted to point that out.

the Onkyo system was very easy to assemble and has great surround sound. After about 6 weeks the system started to turn it's self off. I would be listening to music or watching a movie and suddenly the system would shut off. I would turn it back on and again it would shut off, this repeated over and over. I found out through research and calling Onkyo support, this problem is common with the receiver. now I have to send the receiver in for FREE repairs, but the cost of shipping and loss of a sound system for a few weeks and only after purchasing the system 6 weeks ago sucks!! I would NOT recommend this system to anyone.

Having previously owned an Onkyo surround sound unit in the past, I decided to purchase the Onkyo - HT 5.1-Ch. 4K Home Theater System - Black. I took it home and wired everything. I think I watched about 6 movies in total when the receiver started acting up. The only speakers I was getting sound from was the center and right. I powered it down and on again and for a minute or so it worked fine. All the speakers and subwoofer worked for like a minute. And the same thing happened again. The speakers are rattling and subwoofer as well. This is not a reliable system I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

The one and only problem I have with it is out of the box, the subwoofer pops a lot at high volume which is unacceptable. I bought this to replace a many years old RCA home theater system. The HDMI-out port failed on it but the speakers all still worked perfectly fine. I used that old subwoofer in place of this new one and the popping issue is long gone. The whole system works perfect now. The only reason I don't recommend it is because it needs to work properly out of the box. If I didn't have that spare subwoofer, I would've returned it.

This is probably the best surround system/home theater for a budget in this range. This is actually the second system I have bought because I also have an older model without Bluetooth. It is the perfect size for a bedroom, but this newer one we have in our great room (17' x 20') also seems to be doing a great job! Onkyo speakers/receivers are a great buy/product and I would recommend them to anyone looking for surround sound on a budget! I may even get another for our second bedroom and convert it to a gaming room! Watch out for a deal though!! It fairly regularly goes on sale for $249.99!

Our 16 year old Sony sound system died so we went to BB and bought a Sony A/V Receiver without the speakers since our 5 speakers and 1 woofer were still OK. The new Sony had good sound but we never could get it set right to hear and understand the dialog when watching a movie or series episode where understanding the dialog is important. We took it back and paid a little extra to get the Onkyo with all the speakers. I was expectng more of the same problems with the dialog but it works great!

While the Onkyo HTS may not have high end appeal, it gets the job done. I was looking for something simple enough that my younger kids would be able to use and good enough to not be a waste of money. The video switching is great for those with lots of extra game consoles, DVDs and streaming boxes. The Subwoofer is a passive unit and bottoms when turned up, but it's not bad. Speakers are better than I expected for the price. It's a definite step up from the cheap RCA and Magnavox systems.

The product itself is good for the money. Sound is adequate for a medium sized bedroom. Now onto the bad, Issues with anynet control with my samsung TV have proven frustrating. The receiver will not turn on/off with the TV like my other onkyo system. This may be an issue with the Samsung Anynet according to many forums. However, the biggest issue I had with this system was the lack of a remote being included. The system was open box excellent condition but was missing a remote. Check box contents carefully.

I had an Onkyo system years ago and I am very happy with this one! Set-up was quick and easy with color-coded wires and speakers to make connections simple. The wires are pre-stripped so you won't need to cut them or anything. The receiver set-up worked perfectly with what I wanted. I can turn on the receiver and use it or leave it off and everything passes through to the TV for normal viewing and listening.

When I got this system, I expected it to be just a bit more flexible in terms of upgrading individual components. Don't get me wrong - you can still upgrade your speakers and what not with much of a struggle, but the subwoofer is a wired sub with thin gauge wire. The wiring itself is also some pretty thin wire with the actual openings on the speakers/systems being pretty small.

Set up process was very simple. Once connected, the Onkyo system did not fail to impress. It connected seemlessly with my TV and Fire TV Cube. It works effortlessly with Alexa’s voice controls and makes life a breeze. Even more, it sounds great connected to my turntable as well. In all reality, I will likely upgrade the speakers eventually, but I am very pleased with this purchase!

I bought this to help the sound while watching a movie on my insignia TV which has lousy speakers and turn up dialog when people are talking while turning down the other sounds, after some research to find out how to connect to my smart TV, I got it connected, the sound is pretty good and serves its purpose so I am pleased with it

Bought it at the store and took it home but couldn't set it up for a month or so until the remodeling was done. Got it set up and played it for a couple of hours. Turned it on the next day and it wouldn't work at all. Also when I tried to sign up for the warranty I couldn't because the page didn't exist online. What a piece of crap. Never buying that brand again!!!

Bought this system after upgrading my tv to a 4K Sharp. The surround sound sounded good but doesn’t come on when my tv was turned as I wanted. One less remote to use. Also didn’t care for setting the auto shut off at 0,2 or 4 hours as the unit shut off while playing Xbox when the setting was at 2 hour and there’s no picture when it shuts down.

I bought this system for my dad as a Father's Day gift. It was easy to hook up. It took less than an hour to hook up and hang the speakers (they're wired). However, the subwoofer is not a powered subwoofer, meaning it is controlled by the receiver. Because of this, you cannot independently control the treble and bass.

My wife had the TV on, then the audio totally shut down, we bought a new TV not thinking it was a HDMI plug, so after I got off work I tested the HDMI ports and boom it started to work again. HDMI cable port no longer works I bought this 3 weeks ago and now it's going back.

Great product. Contains everything you need completely out of the box. Sound quality is great as well. A little hard trying to program the remote to turn all components off and on and the remote is a bit generic compared to my other Onkyo model but seems to be a great product so far, especially for the small price tag.
