Its called the Defender Series for a reason. My iPad already had a crack on the lower corner and I have tried several covers to protect it from further harm. This one is hard core :) It covered the already cracked area so you can not even tell that it has been damaged. I have dropped it since, because I am clumsy, several times, and it has not been harmed. It even fell out of my bag in the rain on a concrete surface, but because it is fully covered, the iPad was totally safe from any dropping or water damage. I am so glad I got it! One thing I will say is that it seems quite bulky at first so it takes a little getting used to. But it has a great stand that works really well for multiple angles, and does not fall over during use. I use it landscape style, but if you use it portrait style you wont like the stand. I was reluctant to by it at first because it was a little more expensive than I was planning on spending, but I am confident that had I not purchased it, I would be purchasing a new iPad, which is a lot more money. Overall, money very well spent!!

I just got a new iPad (3rd Gen) to replace my original iPad and I wanted a very protective case for it. I had an OtterBox Defender case on my original iPad and loved it. My original iPad still looked brand new thanks to the OtterBox (and a screen protector) and I wanted the same protection for my new one. I read the reviews of the OtterBox Defender case for the iPad 2 and wasn't too optimistic. It seemed to be hit or miss whether you got a good one or one that would fall apart on you. I'm happy to say that either they improved the quality in the new one or I just got lucky. When I first opened it, I was a bit confused as to how to get it apart so I could put it on my iPad. There are picture directions on the box (no written instructions), but they are vague so I had to work a bit get it taken apart. The silicone part is more firm (not as pliable or flexible) than the one for the original iPad and I think I prefer it. The hard case snaps together at a few points where the original one just slid together. It feels more steady and protective. I also like the built-in screen protector rather than relying on having a stick-on screen protector (those are a pain to put on and I always end up with a small speck of something stuck under the protector). Once I got it all put together, I really like the feel of it; it's pretty solid. The cover for this case snaps on more securely than the original one did so I like that as well. The cover would pop off my original iPad way too easily. Another thing I like on the new one is the cover for the dock connector. On the original one, there was a piece that would actually slide off (as in a completely separate piece that you then had to keep track of) that revealed enough of the back and bottom of the iPad so you could put it in a dock if you wanted to. I don't use an iPad dock, so wasn't of any use to me and just irritated me that I had to keep track of this extra piece. After using the case for a while, that piece didn't stay put nearly as securely as when it was new, so I had to be careful how I held my iPad while caring it so I didn't accidentally grab just that piece and have it slide out and drop my iPad on the ground. The only complaint, and that's pushing it a bit, is that the silicone covering the home button is a bit stiff so pressing the home button, or double-clicking it, is a little bit tougher. By no means is it a deal breaker and I really think it will loosen up with a little bit of use (obviously I haven't used it much since I just got it a couple days ago). Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase (though I bought it from Best Buy, not Amazon) and would recommend this case t anybody that wants full protection (not water-proof) for their new iPad.

I have had my iPad for years and I typically don't like bulky cases but I recently needed the added protection due to children. I like the case for the protection aspect but I hate the bulkiness. This case would be perfect if it could be a little more easily removed for adult use. I don't see the outer skin holding up if the case were taken on and off on a regular basis. Pros: Fit, Cost, Durability, Protection and Peace of mind. Cons: Decreased and delayed touch/tracking recognition, Loss of display clarity due to fingerprints and screen protector itself, Added weight/bulk and its a pain in the rear to remove.

good quality, good look, easy to operate, good pricing, it fits the apple I pad. I showed it to my friends and relatives and every one likes it. I like the color, it matches my I pad very well. It also can protect my I pad to prevent any unexpected damages.

Perfect protection for my iPad. Quality finish and it's not too bulky. The grip material is comfortable, but tacky enough to keep me from fumbling when I'm running for my next flight. The only additional plus that would be helpful (though I knew this going in) is if this case were waterproof.

Great all around protection. Shock proof but they didn't have the one which provides water protection. I needed it for work so couldn't wait for an online delivery. I'm glad I picked this up. Simple to put on. Great fit.

I bought this as a gift for my dad for Father's Day. He wanted a cover but not one with a keyboard. This was rugged but not too heavy and it protects the screen. It also has a built-in stand so he can prop it up (which is something he was looking for).

I purchased this item on sale at my local Best Buy. It provides great protection and easy access to the ports (which are covered when not in use), cameras, sound, etc. The features that I really like are the transparent built in display protector and the collapsible multi-position stand. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable way to protect their investment from accidental drops and incidental scrapes and scratches.

We use our iPad all the time and let our 2 year old use it occasionally. Before the OtterBox a dropped iPad could crack the screen and that means $299 or more to replace the iPad or living with a cracked screen. The OtterBox has protected our iPad. It adds a little bulk, but not so much to be annoying and the extra weight is worth the peace of mind.

This is a great protective ipad case and the stand is a major plus that I didn't think I would use. I was initially concerned about the bulk of the protective case but it's not bulky at all. The one downside was the few bubbles that appear between the ipad screen itself and the case....some users may find this annoying like I did...but others don't notice at all. My solution was to purchase a cheap screen protector ($5) and place that on the ipad itself then put the otterbox on. This solved all of my problems with the bubbles. Overall great case and I would recommend it for anyone and everyone!

This will read like an ad for Otterbox. It is certainly a firm endorsement. I bought the Otter because my first ipad fell off a 2 foot shelf onto a tile floor. No surprise that the next ipad survived numerous minor falls inside the Otter. The true test came when I set ipad atop my car while I loaded my armfuls of other stuff and...drove off. I was going at least 50 mph when ipad came off the roof! The Otterbox lid was in the road, smashed beyond recognition by being repeatedly run over. The case was in the gutter, split open and fractured. The ipad was a few feet away, glass intact, fully functional, with some scratches in the aluminum case. The downside of course is that Otter turns your slim, light ipad into something a little clunky. If you have an active lifestyle, or you are capable of human error, this tradeoff is well worth it.

I'm very pleased with my Otterbox cover. I've had my iPad about 5 years and had worn out the magnetic foldable suede cover I bought when I got it. Though nothing had ever happened before, the iPad is now much better protected in case of a drop on the floor or being sat on. The lid has a little pull-out hinged piece that makes a very handy easel-type stand that will hold the iPad either horizontally or vertically. I just carried it on a plane trip and also had little children handling it with no worries or accidents. It does make the iPad a bit heavier and I wish it had a handle and was in a bright color.

Provides perfect protection (not waterproof ). Comes with a screen membrane and access ports for camera, volume, apple cable, etc. hard plastics with rubberized edge for shock absorption. The cover, when removed becomes a base that allows you to prop up the unit at a low angle for typing or high angle for movie watching, both landscape and portrait orientation. It certain adds weight. If you're a minimalist you won't like it. But if you're looking for protection you can't beat it at a reasonable price for what you get
