Generally great & reliable but occasionally not

Generally good, but the mute button is much to small, it uses AAA rather than AA batteries so you have to replace batteries often due to AAA small volume. In addition it often fails to connect to the PS4 and you have to go into settings - devices - Bluetooth devices and remove it then reconnect it to the PS4. But at least it provides an acceptable way to control your PS4 with batteries which last far longer than the standard controller. Despite my complaints I would recommend this to others.

    Must Have for Movies

Absolutely must have for anyone who loves movies. I purchased it because I was tired of the constant blue light on the game controller while watching movies with the lights off. The programming of additional devices is so simple, I programmed my TV and DirecTV accidentally as I was programming my sound system.

Overall this remote is amazing!! Not only does it work for my PS4 but it also works on my smart TV AND my analog av control receiver (aka stereo with TV/video capability)!! It even allows me to pull up my apps on my TV. The only drawback to it and this is probably not Sony's fault is the fact that it does not work with my Comcast set top box, even though it is supposed to. Comcast is always changing things around so they very well could have changed the codes for that option after the remote cam out on the market. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking to buy it.

I love this remote it’s perfect considering we use our PS4 for everything we watch ! I also didn’t want to continue to use the controller and the remote at the same time, I usually lose the remote but this one is so convenient.

I don't believe this was everything that it I thought it was going to be. It did not eliminate my auxiliary remote for my Samsung speakers. It did however, eliminate the TV, and cable box remote, as well as being convenient using it for simple things on the Ps4 itself. It is slim and takes up little space. It depends on what you want to use it for. It does eliminate 2 remotes. Overall, for the cheap price, it is hard to complain. Comes in handy.

So I had the blu-ray controller for the PS4, then when getting a PS4 Pro and passing-along my PS4, I got this controller for myself -- selfish. I have a Sony TV, which has had some pretty great HDMI and controller/remote synergy with the PS4 (same for PS4 Pro), so I thought this would be easier to connect. Granted, my TV is from 2010, but it's 50" and I got it OpenBox with money I made from selling the IP for an Image Processing Algorithm instead of going on a trip to NYC with my girlfriend at the time (retroactively realizing that she probably didn't actually want me to go with her), so I'm pretty sure this TV has been the deciding factor in the past (great? terrible? you decide!) 9 years of my life. So let's not blame the TV. The TV is clearly a magical signpost on the journey of my life. Instead we blame the remote. It's an awesome remote, it has more buttons and more features than the one I had before, but here are my major gripes: - The remote falls asleep when connected to the PS4, so you have to with the big PS button to wake-it-up before entering new commands. - The share and options buttons were added, and more of the full PS4 controller buttons ... but no shoulder buttons. Obviously it's not meant to be a full controller, but this definitively screws-up using this remote conveniently with Amazon Prime Video and other apps. - There's dedicated buttons to switch the mode of the remote between the different "universal remote"-registered A/V devices. Insanely, this means that you have to press the TV button to switch to the TV to change the volume, then press the PS4 (top) button to switch back to controlling the PS4. - There actually is a documented (in the manual) button sequence that will turn-on "Volume Passthrough", which will let the channel and volume buttons go to the AV device(s) while in PS4 mode ... but the remote "forgets" that you enabled this after some seemingly arbitrary amount of time that's basically equivalent to a day. I haven't timed it yet, but here's like how I use the TV and Remote: I get home, I turn on the PS4 with the remote by pressing the PS Button, which uses the HDMI connection to turn on the "sleeping" TV (yay!), and then I navigate to Hulu and put on something I've seen while I setup / cook my vegan dinner, but oh no, the convection toaster oven fan is on and I can't hear the TV as well so I go to turn-up the volume, but nope! buttons don't work, oh yeah I'm in PS4 mode, I do the special TV+LAST command and got the blink and now I've got passthrough, yay, so I adjust the volume, I go to eat dinner but now I wanna watch something new so I switch to Netflix or whatever, but the movie I wanna watch is too quiet so I adjust the volume and yay passthrough is working, but then after dinner I switch back to something I've seen so I can do other stuff and not pay attention, but now it's too loud so I turn it down and yay passthrough is working, and then I turn off the PS4 to go to bed, but that doesn't turn the TV off, so I press the TV power button and go to bed, and then what do you wanna do tonight brain? same thing we do every night pinky! lather, rinse, repeat (forever). I just realized while writing that out for the first time that maybe pressing the TV Power Button (not the TV A/V switch button) is disabling the volume passthrough ... if that's true, the firmware engineering director/manager for this remote should be fired. If it loses the passthrough state whenever it falls asleep, they should be fired and banned from Linked-In but still forced to get all the emails. Anyways, it's literally a great remote, and I'm not spending 200 bucks on one of those friggin' logitech things, so until that PS5 arrives, this is my life. Such a horrible life. Good remote, though. I guess. You decide!

Great for any PS4 Media Heavy User

When I first started using this setup was easy as adding a second controller. Function at the start were basic and only worked in Netflix and a few other apps but did not work in YouTube or Amazon Prime. After a recent PS4 Firmware better functionality has been added to the remote within the PS4 apps and now works with YouTube and Amazon Prime. If you are a heavy PS4 Media user this is a must. The universal remote works perfectly with my TV and cable box, although I am using my cable box less and less. Sony looks as if over time will update firmware of the PS4 to add better compatibility. Only issue I have is the power saving feature of the remote disconnects from the PS4 to save battery has no way of being changed. Right now after a certain time limit you have to reconnect the remote back to the PS4 before you can start using it, a mild issue when trying to pause a long movie quickly.

Got this so we would be able to cut down to 1 remote instead of 2 and a PS4 controller to manage the TV and all of our devices/streaming services. It does a good not great job. Manages our TV, soundbar, PS4, etc well and with minimal hassle and an easy learning curve. Some customization of functions which is handy and retains all aspects of the remotes we were was using before. Pros: -It works -Button layout is sensible -One remote for multiple devices -You can customize some buttons w/ functions of other remotes* -Pairing is fairly smooth** *There is a handy section in the manual explaining how to do this **Our TV didn't pair using the auto pair function so I had to use codes in the back of the manual. It was a little time consuming but not problematic and pretty straightforward. Just a heads up if you do have to go this route - test all the buttons after getting it to initially pair. I went through about 4 or 5 codes that paired some functions/buttons on the remote before finding a code that paired all the functions/buttons (that I tested/use regularly). Cons: -Some of the buttons are a little small -Volume is linked to TV mode*** *** i.e. if using the remote to navigate around the PS4 menus I have to switch the remote function back to "TV" if I want to adjust the volume. Doesn't seem that big of a deal but I have to do this surprisingly often so it is kind of annoying

I picked this up for my PS4 so I could stop using my controller for the fact that I like to watch movies a lot and the constant turning it on to select the menu, pick the function I want, then close it again was sometimes a hassle. Might seem strange but I do like having everything flow smoothly for me so this remote definitely gets the job done and it stays on for a good while like 20-30min before you have to turn it on again. you can tell when its on when the upper right corner of the remote flashes red when you push a button on it. I don't use the full feature of it like tv stuff but im sure it works just as well. I have other remotes for my soundbar/TV so the universal part of this, I don't use it nor have I ever had a problem with connectivity issues regarding universal features such as TV spazzing out while using this remote for PS4. The quality feels good and smooth w/ an extremely soft textured feel (feels smooth), the buttons themselves are soft rubber but firm and no receiver is needed for this. you turn it on and connect it to the PS4 via the controller screen under settings. I forgot exactly how since its been awhile since I bought this but I wanted to try it out a couple "months" (2 years; I forgot) and make a good review on what the pros and cons were. I have to say that there really is no cons to this. It does what its supposed to, it helps me do the functions I want to by having instant access to pause/play/fast forward etc functions without having to turn on the controller. Works great!

It works pretty well with my ps4

I got this remote because i was draining the battery too much on my PS4 controller. I do like to play games on my ps4 but i also love watching my Anime on Funimation on the PS4 and thats where this remote came in handy. Not only does it properly control my apps on the ps4 like my ps4 controller but it also controls the volume on my yamaha RX-A740 receiver and even controls my Dish Hopper with sling by allowing me to change the channels and even access my Guide menu as well as my samsung UN65JS8500 4K SUHD tv. Its been doing its job fairly well. What it does to conserve battery vs the ps4 game controller is that after 30 minutes of no use the remote power's it self off and you have press the ps4 blue button right at the top of the remote below the eject button and wait for a solid red light to appear for a few seconds and then once it disapears, you can press whatever command button you want to access, like play, pause, stop or the main PS button to go back to the home screen. You cant play games with the remote control just incase you are wondering lol and if you try, it will ask you to connect a ps4 game controller. With that said i would recommend it. I gave it a 4 star rating because it does take some time or a few pushes to the ps4 button on the remote to get it to work again with the ps4 and if you want to access the tv or home theater receiver volume you have to press the tv or aux button to change the volume up or down and then press the ps4 button to utilize the ps4 again but its still a great alternative so you wont waste your battery on your ps4 game controller.

Finally, the PS4 has a media remote similar to what the PS3 had to offer. It's been improved a bit, as just breathing on it no longer causes the console to turn on (a problem I had with the PS3 version). Now you pair the remote to your system and turn it on by holding the PS button. Unless the system is in rest mode, then that doesn't work. Why? Don't know. You can hold down the PS4 button on the top instead, which seems to work when the system is in rest mode. On the plus side, I bought this for use with PS Vue, Sony's internet TV service, and it's great for that and much easier for someone who isn't used to the PS4's controller (like my wife) to work. Other issues include the way the interface is utilized with certain apps, or un-utilized, as is often the case. Not making all the buttons from the PS4 controller represented on the remote was a huge oversight, meaning app makers now have to remap certain controls to new buttons that don't actually correspond to anything documented, which is problematic when your device releases nearly two years after the system its meant to work with. Additionally, I played a game while still having the media remote active, and that screwed up how it functioned big time (no idea why). I had to make the PS4 forget the remote, then add it back to fix the issue, but that worked.

So I had a lot of problems with this very unit on my original PS4. For some reason the remote would sync and then just stop working within about a month. I must have swapped out 3 of them in the past and same issue. At the end of 2019 I traded in my PS4 for a PS4 pro. I saw this remote was still available and really like to have a media remote as I do use my consoles to play media and stream. I figured with PS4 going away this remote wouldn't be around long. So I bought another one and so far so good. I liked the official PS3 remote a lot better as this remote has small buttons and odd placement but its been working a few months so I think the issue must have been with the BT on my old PS4.

    Pretty good universal remote

I didn't want to use my PS4 controller + TV remote while streaming shows, so I decided to purchase this universal remote. It has most of the buttons/functionality found on the PS4 controller. Pairing it took some time, but it controls my TV's functions as expected. One annoying thing is that I have to press the 'TV' input button to changing the volume. I've used universal remotes in the past where I can change channels and volume without having to select the input on the remote. Also, the remote seems to have some sort of sleep functionality. After being idle, the remote input needs to be selected before using again.
