Customers consistently note the superior gameplay of PES 2017, finding it more realistic and enjoyable than competing titles. The game's realism is also frequently praised, particularly its improved graphics and authentic soccer feel. However, some users point out a lack of officially licensed teams and players as a significant drawback. This issue, while noted, doesn't appear to overshadow the positive feedback regarding gameplay and realism.

I originally played PES all the way back on the PS2 days. I had moved on to FIFA and had owned the past 8 FIFA games and had decided to buy PES after excellent reviews from gaming websites. I was taken aback at how good this game really is. In this review, I'm comparing PES 2017 to FIFA 17 (Demo), FIFA 16, and the previous FIFA games.
GAMEPLAY: Let me just say one thing, PES 2017 blows away FIFA in terms of gameplay. There is so much depth in the gameplay. The players respond very well to your inputs and you can clearly tell a difference between a world-class player like Messi and a player playing in the lower divisions. It's fairly easy to do tricks and with the right timing you can slip through 2-3 defenders. It's by no means an easy thing to do, but it feels so good when you do it. The passing and crosses are very responsive and it feels good moving the ball around. Also, the movement of players on and off the ball is very well done. For example, if you drag a defender out of position, then an opposition player will take the opportunity and make a run into that opening. At the same time, another defender might try to cover that gap and open up space elsewhere. The movement of the game has a very natural feel to it. On FIFA, every match felt very similar and players would often make the same runs. On PES, the AI adapts to the tactics you use and you'll have to change up your tactics as the game progresses. Another thing that really stands out is the variety in goals you'll score. In FIFA I always felt like I could use the same tactic and score very similar goals. In PES, so far the goals have been a wide variety. On PES, I've scored from amazing one-time volleys to beautiful headers to tap-ins to scrambled mess lucky goals.
MODES: There's the regular exhibition matches, training, leagues, and tournaments that are present in every game soccer game nowadays. PES also has Master League, Become a Legend, and myClub. Master League is very well done. You can create a team from scratch, use an existing team, or a default Master League team. You can choose which country you want to start off in and try to work your way up to the top division of the country you choose, playing league and cup games as well as being able to qualify for the Champion's League and Europa League. You can buy and sell players. As the game progresses, players will develop different skills based on their training and how you use them in games. In Become a Legend you create your own player and work your way up from a bench warmer to a Legend. The myClub mode is similar to FIFA's Ultimate Team. You create your own team and through various achievements in the game, acquire game points which you can use to buy players or "gamble" by buying agents that will give you a chance of getting a specific type of player (for example, find players under 23 or players from Germany). You can even combine 3 agents to find a player under 23 from Germany that's a GK (as an example). With this mode, you can play offline and online as well as have it SIM online/offline matches based on your team chemistry and strength.
PRESENTATION: It's hard to determine which game has better graphics. Overall, I find the faces in PES are a lot better than in FIFA. Also, FIFA has a lot of licenses for the top leagues, whereas PES doesn't. However, you can easily find user created content and download it in your game. I bought it on release date and right away there was an option file that I download that fixed everything and even included the Bundesliga. So while FIFA has a lot of licenses, really, within about 30 minutes, you can have everything be perfect just as if it was licensed in PES. The one thing that FIFA clearly has better is the menus and the soundtrack. FIFA has cleaner and more elegant menus and is easier to navigate. Also, FIFA in general has a lot bigger soundtrack and a bigger variety in the type of music.
OVERALL: PES 2017 is the best soccer game to date. The gameplay is far beyond its competitor. It's easy to just pick up and play with friends, against the comp, or online. You can choose to just pick up and play, or you can get lost in all the different modes or the wonderful tactics/strategies at your disposal so you can truly master how to play the game. Whatever you choose, you will love this game. It's simply fantastic. I have been disappointed in FIFA in the recent years, especially after FIFA 16. PES has completely surprised me at how good it really is. When it comes to sports games, some of us just like to sit down and play a few matches and be done. With PES, you might find yourself lost into the beautiful, fluid gameplay and be surprised at how each match can play out differently and can always keep you on your toes, just like a real soccer match. This is, without a doubt, the best soccer game I have played in a very long time.

PES has refined year on year in this generation, continuing to improve, but PES 2017 is the crowning moment. With different tactics and styles that are effective, and unique players, great goal feel and lovely control, PES 2017 just feels so good to play. It may well be the greatest soccer game ever made.

Pes 2017 has improved a lot, the bad thing is that there are more unlicensed teams than before, but it can be easily fixed with a few downloads. Definitely best PES up to date. Beat Fifa in every way.

PES 2017 has taken the winning formula from PES 2016 and improved it in every possible way. Animations are spot on, as are the player faces. The gameplay, which has always been a real PES focus, is great as usual. Every team seems to have their own identity. It makes every match feel different and really makes this feel like a simulation of soccer. The lack of licenses will turn some people off, but once you give the game a try, the gameplay and animations will win you over. Pick up this game today! You won't be disappointed!!

Bought after getting sick of the robotic passing and movements of the AI in FIFA 17, and was amazed how much better the gameplay feels on PES 17, I still play FIFA from time to time, but will buy buying PES on release from now on.

As a long time fifa player, I made the switch to PES this year and couldn't be happier. This may be the most fluid sports game ever created. Just don't forget to download the custom files to get all teams and leagues.

Is this complete? No. It lacks the substance and presentation of other soccer games. But the gameplay is really fun and the few licensed teams that are in the game are almost all fully realistic with most players faces scanned. Graphics are good but again other games are better.

The physicality of this game makes it hands down better than FIFA. Its fun to fight for the ball and the animations are so smooth I watch the other teams replays when they score a goal against me.

Very realistic, as always. Highly strategic soccer simulator; as opposed to how FIFA has always been where it's more of a game than a reality emulator.
